To not find having cream squirted in my face funny?

Visiting my Grandmother today for tea and cakes. A few other members of the family were there too.

My cousin who is 8 asked his dad if he would squirt cream in his mouth - which he did. My uncle then turned to me and said do you want some too Watermelon?

I said no and he still proceeded to shove it in my face so I turned my head away and then he decided to actually squirt it on my face and even some went in my hair. So it wasn't even a small little blob.

My uncle found it hilarious until he saw my face and he did apologise but I still felt I should have just laughed along.

My uncle is early 40s and I'm 24 - I wouldn't do that to another adult. Aibu and need to her a sense of humour?

I think he is Uncle Knobhead, I just asked DH what he thought and he said maybe the Uncle fancies the op or thinks its flirty.

How come preciousbane didn't get a massive roasting when she asked her DH 'what he thought'?

nauticant · 31/03/2014 16:23

Possibly because the thread is about the uncle's behaviour and he was commenting on that whilst your DH was commenting on what he thought about MN posters.

matildasquared · 31/03/2014 16:25

"the law says blah blah"

That's the new motto of the CPS.

Here you go. Tom Cruise got squirted with a water gun and 4 people were arrested because of it.

I don't think in the end he pressed charges BUT how is this different?

He got squirted in the face with water.
OP got squirted in the face with cream.

TheEnchantedRose · 31/03/2014 16:31

But anyone us ladies should shut up now right?

Yoni's husband has spoken and thus our opinions are void.

Yonineedaminute · 31/03/2014 16:33

Well nauticant obviously my DH was also commenting on his opinion on the uncle's behaviour as well in a less direct way.

I think it's more that people think that a man's opinion is fine, as long as it is in line with what they think.

Pagwatch · 31/03/2014 16:34

I didn't think anything I posted constituted a massive roasting.
I must be more scary than i thought.
I'm just large chunks the thread funny.

TheEnchantedRose · 31/03/2014 16:35

In reference to the water gun squirted on Tom Cruise.

Channel 4 stated -

"The stunt was intended to be light-hearted rather than malicious and we would apologise to Mr Cruise for any offence that was caused."

The four-man freelance TV crew were arrested on suspicion of assault.

See that? ASSAULT

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We will see whether to pursue the charges, see whether the victim wants to pursue it."

Cruise - who attended the premiere with his new fiancee Katie Holmes - was talking to journalists in Leicester Square when he was squirted with water.

The star struggled to maintain his composure, repeatedly asking one of the Channel 4 team: "Why would you do that?"

He said: "What's so funny about that? It's ridiculous. Do you like making less of people?

Exactly. I'm no fan of Tom Cruise, but he's right. It is making less of someone, and trying to humiliate them for a cheap laugh.

Where did I say that? Would it have been ok if I had asked my sister or my mum what they thought?

matildasquared · 31/03/2014 16:37

Oh, you and your PC facts!

Yonineedaminute · 31/03/2014 16:38

You are terrifying pagwatch

Smile

I think it's more that people think that a man's opinion is fine, as long as it is in line with what they think.

Not at all.

If your husband had his own account and came on and said that then it would have been fine (some other agree with him and some would not)

Anyone who comes on here and says "well my husband says this..." just looks like a idiot.

It's like being back at school, "well my mum says ..."

Pagwatch · 31/03/2014 16:40
Grin
Yonineedaminute · 31/03/2014 16:41

So how come no one commented when preciousbane stated that her husband thought that the uncle was fancied the op and was flirting with her?

Yonineedaminute · 31/03/2014 16:42

Fancied, not was fancied!

matildasquared · 31/03/2014 16:49

Watermelon, I hope that at least some of this was helpful to you? Take care.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 31/03/2014 17:22

Nobody has said the op overreacted.
Or that she should stifle her discomfort.

You don't know why he did it.
It is presumptuous to say that he did it in order to humiliate her.

Owllady · 31/03/2014 17:30

Apologies are usually accepted in good grace, even if someone has made a mistake

It's not even a huge deal and if you think it is, you must lead a very sheltered life

Tom cruise, is a vain idiot

TheEnchantedRose · 31/03/2014 17:52

Apologies are usually accepted in good grace, even if someone has made a mistake

Shouldn't it depends on the situation? And it was hardly a "mistake" was it.

What if I offered you a glass of water, and you said no. I then threw it over you because I deemed that to be funny. Should you accept my apology with good grace?

TheEnchantedRose · 31/03/2014 17:54

And I dislike Tom Cruise, but he had a point in this instance.

Owllady · 31/03/2014 18:58

Mountain out of a molehill imo

Odaat · 31/03/2014 19:19

Ok ladies, i tell you what. Hows about you go ask your friends/ family / colleagues their reactions to this? I think on MN people try to out- PC eachother. Its a constant game of who can be the biggest socialist feminist!

So go ask people in the real world if they honestly belive a man should be vilified to this degree for squirting cream in his nieces face as a joke.

Fuck it... Phone your lawyers and ask, theoretically speaking- if there is a case here?

I may ask my PC plod mate actually, see what they would think about being called out to handle such an 'assault'.

This level of ott behaviour is dangerous. A man should not be persecuted for something so small, it really does nothing to help women who have genuinely been assaulted.

matildasquared · 31/03/2014 19:21

I think you're sitting on your phone odaat.

matildasquared · 31/03/2014 19:22

If only it were possible to look up laws.
