to think my neighbour has overreacted?

My MIL has a bit of a mouth on her, and yesterday, shouted at our neighbour who accused her of driving too fast into our close as she was putting her kids in the car. MIL shouldn't have said what she did so I went round to try and smooth things over as MIL was really upset.
I spoke to the neighbour and pointed out that MIL was so upset and that she would never hurt a child, but the woman was still very angry about it as it was in front of her children and she was on her own drive. I said I didn't want to argue and she said she didn't care as she had called the police! Wtf! I told her if she did that I'd tell them she didn't supervise her kids properly as I've seen them run out into the road.
I thought she was bluffing but there was a police car there just now! AIBU to think it's a waste of police time if she's just having a moan about my MIL?

Emailing her landlord because your MIL called her a fucking whore is not the act of a sane person.

I hope her landlord tells her about the email.

-need to slam on brakes? You're going too fast and aren't exercising due care and attention. Children can't destroy a car, but a car can kill a child, so the responsibility is the driver's, to ensure safety, given the asymmetric risks. In general, children are NOT responsible beings, so blaming them for being hit, by a driver who was too reckless to anticipate, is not on

• having a go about legal parking? It's evidence agsinst you, not them

If I felt threatened by someone I would ring the police no doubt about that. i'm guessing your neighbour might have felt that way? what with nearly having her kids getting run over then being screamed at in the street in front of them by the guilty party and insulted on top of that.

We rent our house. Next door own theirs. All the kids play in the road. Swingball normally or badminton. If anyone tried to run them over, call me a fucking whore or otherwise.....well someone probably WOULD be calling the police...

Your MIL sounds absolutely foul. SHE was in the wrong, drove too fast, scared her neighbour, could have killed or injured her kids, THEN used absolutely foul language to her???? She must be a joy to live beside. Not.
