to think my neighbour has overreacted?

My MIL has a bit of a mouth on her, and yesterday, shouted at our neighbour who accused her of driving too fast into our close as she was putting her kids in the car. MIL shouldn't have said what she did so I went round to try and smooth things over as MIL was really upset.
I spoke to the neighbour and pointed out that MIL was so upset and that she would never hurt a child, but the woman was still very angry about it as it was in front of her children and she was on her own drive. I said I didn't want to argue and she said she didn't care as she had called the police! Wtf! I told her if she did that I'd tell them she didn't supervise her kids properly as I've seen them run out into the road.
I thought she was bluffing but there was a police car there just now! AIBU to think it's a waste of police time if she's just having a moan about my MIL?

Oops, caught up. Reverse it all. You witnessed the driver, so have a good notion of the speed.

Viviennemary · 28/03/2014 21:26

If your mil came tearing into your close where there were children playing I think it's right the police were called. There could have been an accident.

Whatsyourpoint · 28/03/2014 21:32

Spotty, mov3 as soon as you can. With cunty neighbours and a not so great LL you're better off out of there as soon as you can.

wheresthelight · 28/03/2014 21:34

oh my life, having read the thread, i cannot believe that you kept your cool OP!!! I would have gone astral back at the silly old bat!

You did the right thing in calling the police, and perhaps you could send a copy of the police report to your landlady!

EssenceOfGelfling · 28/03/2014 21:53

Name and shame? Or would that be illegal? I'd like to send a link of this thread to the Queen, who might chose to reconsider who she bestows her royal warrant upon.

OwlCapone · 28/03/2014 21:58

What the fuck is the point of a reverse AIBU other than to piss people off?

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/03/2014 22:10

YABVU firstly for stripped instead of striped unless it was done in an ironic manner Grin

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/03/2014 22:12

or unless you were referring to someone with chicken pox who decided to go starkers
But seriously, what was your MIL thinking?!?

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 28/03/2014 22:13

Argh reverse AIBU. hate those!!

bigdog888 · 28/03/2014 22:14

A complete and utter waste of police time.

Spottyandstripped · 28/03/2014 22:52

Essence I would LOVE to name and shame!

Reverse AIBUs don't bother me at all. In this case frankly I'm relieved. Have no idea why they bother people so much.

spotty hope you can move soon. Your landlady sounds like a snob.

Silverdaisy · 29/03/2014 01:05

This sounds a hideous situation, I feel for you. The reverse thread thing, really annoying. There is 10 pages just getting annoyed at your alter ego. Why not just post your point of view.

For example I could write,

We live with this girl, (there are 3 of us in the house). She controls the food, and won't let us have it when we ask matter what we say. We think if we want to eat at any time then it's our choice. If we want food at 4 am she should allow it.

MN: that's not a great house share situation.

10 pages later

We are actually the cats, who are loved so much (apart from the 4am wake up)

CarolineKnappShappey · 29/03/2014 08:26

Have the police spoken to the MIL yet?
Sorry if I missed that bit.

I think you will be told if she gets a caution, or anything else. If so, tip off the local paper.

Spottyandstripped · 29/03/2014 09:15

I don't think they're likely to speak to her for a week or so as the PC concerned is going on leave. She's going to go absolutely crackers isn't she?

I've also upset the neighbours a few times by telling them off for speeding into our cul-de-sac. It's a very open cul-de-sac so easy to drive into which is why people speed, but when I have DD in the pram our car it's so dangerous. I would never call the police unless someone was actually hurt, but if some loon shouted aggressively at me I wouldn't be too pleased so I'd say YABU, and your MIL needs reigning in

Spottyandstripped · 29/03/2014 10:20

You've missed a bit there, Chippy!

Have I Shock will bookmark to read whole thread (being lazy and couldn't be arsed lol)

Misspixietrix · 29/03/2014 12:08

it wouldn't have mattered how fast she was going it most certainly would. I live on a built up area where children with no amount of road sense are allowed to play out freely (not mine I add). It's a given that cars slow down once they reach this road as are aware of this. Your MIL was aware unreasonable and really hasn't helped your case by calling her a fucking whore. I have the most insufferable neighbours. I still wouldn't dream of saying anything of the sort to her.

Misspixietrix · 29/03/2014 12:10

Wait that'll teach me to carry on reading. It's a reverse AIBU. Blush.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 29/03/2014 13:07

YANBU that family sound like a nightmare

livingatheendofthewall · 29/03/2014 13:27

WTAF?? Your MIL sounds unhinged...and so do you for backing her up. Your poor neighbour being subjected to such abuse after looking out for her children!

Perfectlypurple · 29/03/2014 13:36

I wish people would RTFT

ProtegeMoi · 29/03/2014 19:13

Finding this post very hard to believe.

Spottyandstripped · 29/03/2014 19:17
