Apparently she watched OBEM last week and laughed at how pathetic the women were because "there's no need for,all the screaming and crying drama FFS" and she won't need a section because she doesn't like needles.

Her baby will stay at home with DH 5 days after birth so she can return to college as there's no need to delay, surely they can cope without a feed for 3 hours even though she wants to BF.

The baby will go in its own room from birth and it won't be a hassle getting up "what twice a night?".

The scan dates are DEFINATELY wrong because they are showing the baby as normal sized when her DH was hugely long at birth so "we've only bought 3-6 months clothing to prove them wrong"

My personal favourite "we've didn't see the need to buy a pram with seat bit so just got a carrycot one second hand as by the time she outgrows it around a year she can just walk with us"

oh, ignore the sanctimonious critics, Sqtter, they are far too over-sensitive on what they imagine is your friend's behalf, and probably haven't bothered to read your update.

You can still be friends and drive each other nuts sometimes. Wink

I am still critical of other people's parenting styles. After all, MY daughter is not going to throw tantrums at the store when she's a toddler. Let me have my fantasies

You sound like a lovely friend. Your friend did set herself up a bit by making so many pronouncements (I did not do this, I knew I was clueless and so it proved to be). You are now helping her out at a really difficult time while having a bit of fun along the way. That's a proper friend to me.

She may have my cousins baby. He feeds for 10 minutes, then sleeps for three hours, wake up, moans gently, roots for nipple, feeds for 10 minutes, sleeps for three hours, fills his nappy, feeds for 10 minutes, sleeps for three hours, and so it goes until 8 pm when he sleeps until around 3 am, feeds 10 minutes and sleeps till around 7 am.

Ah, just seen the update. Smile

OP, I have a friend who worked for years in a nursery baby room before having her first baby. She often used to declare her intentions of having a baby who wasn't pandered to, slept through, drank milk at room temperature from day one, went to bed awake, fitted in with her social life, etc and it escalated massively when she was expecting.

I nodded and smiled all along, ignoring the implicit criticism of my own parenting decisions.

Along came her DC1 and every one of her predictions was trashed. She had to put off returning to work because she couldn't bear to leave the baby with her colleagues and every aspect of their lives was tailored to suit the baby's likes, dislikes, sleep routine, etc.

Have I gloated and reminded her of her naivety? No, not a dicky bird. We've all made a point of 'forgetting' her comments and supporting her instead, as good friends do but that doesn't stop me having a wry smile inside when she's stressing how important it is that her baby is settled to sleep in precisely the right way at precisely the right time Smile

OP I think you sound like a lovely friend. And well done to your friend too for being able to laugh at herself now she's four weeks in!

Cric, if you're using a sling/carrier with a newborn it should be one where the hips are held flexed, with the knees up slightly higher than the hips, rather than one where the baby is supported at the crotch but the legs sort of dangle down. This doesn't commit you to any particular style of carrier there are various wraps, mei tai carriers, soft structured carriers and harness-type carriers which meet that specification but there are some individual makes and models (including some that are widely stocked and very popular) that don't meet the recommendations for optimal hip support.
