To have smashed an egg on his windscreen

lollipoppi · 11/03/2014 19:48

Ok, so I know IABU and it was a spur of the moment childish thing to do but ........

Upon leaving the supermarket with a 1yo and 3yo in tow, I get to my car to find a man struggling to get out of his van because he has parked so close to my car.

I politely pointed out that if he is struggling then how am I expected to get my 3yo into his car seat when I cannot open my door.
His response was "it's not my problem"
Me : well it's now my problem because your an incompetent arse
Him: fuck off you stuck up btch, and walked off with his mate laughing

Whilst my 3yo was climbing over my 1yo to get to his car seat, I unloaded the shopping and came across the eggs.

I splatted one on his windscreen and bombed it

Very immature of me I know, but I think he deserved it!

YANBU!

He started it by parking like a cunt. Being the "bigger" person will only give you an ulcer.

formerbabe · 11/03/2014 20:28

I disagree...it has a lot to do with her being a woman alone...would he have told her to fuck off if her husband/partner had been there?

JustOneCuppa · 11/03/2014 20:29

Oh Lollipoppi, I think I love you. Will you be my friend?

And all those being critical, please get off your moral high horse and lighten up.

AnyFucker · 11/03/2014 20:29

Bloody hell, I got beaten to the Jeremy Kyle recommendation. Bah !

BonzoDooDah · 11/03/2014 20:31

Hmm Any of you reading that OP asked him nicely to move first but he said "it's not my problem" ... so who was stroppy first? Hmm Pull your judgy pants down.

I think he deserved it - good on you!

My sister did the same to someone with a squishy pear not cutted up and said it was very therapeutic.

lollipoppi · 11/03/2014 20:31

Agreed, not at all lady like, or classy.
Very out of character for me to do something like this.

If I had got to my car and he had already parked and wasn't there I would have just struggled and left.
His whole attitude towards me from the moment i pointed out that I wouldn't be able to get my child in the car was awful.
I did actually ask if he could move his van over a little (before I called him an arse) and he said no absolutely not
He found the whole situation hilarious and him and his mate were laughing at me whilst I struggled

I can't bring myself to be outraged by your behaviour unless...

You have a stupidly large 4wd monstrosity which takes up the entire parking space and means that people have to park right up close to you.

Or...
You were parked right close to the line on one side, meaning that if he was centrally parked within his space but still very close to you.

Or...
His passenger had a hidden disability which necessitated a larger space on the passenger side for him to exit the car.

Or...
The driver or his passenger suffer from a severe egg allergy and you have thereby caused their death through anaphylaxis.

Hope you're thoroughly ashamed of yourself now.
Wink

Lighten up about someone van being vandalised.

How is he going to get it off and drive home, to work or where else he is going.

Egg is a pita to clean up. What if he phones the police and the OP is arrested for criminal damage.

Nicknacky · 11/03/2014 20:32

Couldn't have been that close to her car if he and his passengers got out.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/03/2014 20:32

Well I laughed.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 11/03/2014 20:32

bigred Grin

Monetbyhimself · 11/03/2014 20:34

I'd have laughed at you as well.

How long before the OP is lamenting sbout her three year olds bratty destructive behaviour Grin Apples not falling far from trees springs to mind.

formerbabe · 11/03/2014 20:34

Its not real vandalism...there is no lasting damage!

The man sounds vile..stereo typical van driver.

hoobypickypicky · 11/03/2014 20:35

"I disagree...it has a lot to do with her being a woman alone...would he have told her to fuck off if her husband/partner had been there?"

  1. Bull! You can't have it both ways. Either the OP needs special dispensation because she's a woman or she doesn't. We spend half our lives fighting for equal opportunities, we can't play the poor little woman card when it suits us.
  1. The OP is clearly not a shrinking violet. She told this man that he was an arse then vandalised his property. I get the feeling she can cope. If she can't, she shouldn't have started it.
  1. I've no idea whether the man would have told the OP to fuck off if her DH/DP had been there and neither have you. Maybe he would. If the OP is forward enough to be abusive to someone who is presumably bigger and stronger than her there's no reason to assume that the man wouldn't have been equally forthcoming.
LoonvanBoon · 11/03/2014 20:38

I would have got him to mind the kids while I reversed my car out. No need for a row, so YABU.

Yeah, leaving your kids in the care of some random bloke in a supermarket car park would obviously have been the perfect solution. After all, inconsiderate van drivers are always willing to do a bit of child-minding for strangers.

Truth is, you've no idea how this man would have reacted to your suggestion, Toad, so the "no need for a row" statement sounds very smug.

I'm in the childish brigade, I'm afraid. Wouldn't have done it myself, but I do find egg-throwing quite funny in the case of a deserving recipient like a selfish driver. A bit of petty revenge which causes no lasting damage can be very therapeutic.

SirChenjin · 11/03/2014 20:39

Listen - it's not your fault that the hen laid an egg on his windscreen and your hand landed on it by accident, OK?

He deserved it - and now it is his problem. I hope it didn't take him too long to clean it off his windscreen lie, I hope it took him ages

ThePinkOcelot · 11/03/2014 20:39

Ha ha Op.

hoobypickypicky · 11/03/2014 20:40

"I politely pointed out that if he is struggling then how am I expected to get my 3yo into his car seat when I cannot open my door. "

That's not politely asking someone to move. That's (mildly but nonetheless irritatingly) confrontational.

Starting the exchange with, "Excuse me please, could you move your car a little so I can get my child into his seat" would be politely asking.

Xenadog · 11/03/2014 20:41

He was an arse. I hate it when people with massive cars or cans park ridiculously close to me so I can hardly get into my own small car. His attitude was crap so I think you were only BU because you didn't smash the entire box of eggs on his van! Grin

Toadinthehole · 11/03/2014 20:41

I suspect that if you'd asked him to help rather than demand he do something this would have turned out very differently.

IamInvisible · 11/03/2014 20:41

YABU.

You could get your child into his car seat, it was just more difficult than usual.

I bloody hope someone has taken your registration number and you get reported. It's not funny, at all. Had I have posted that my teen DSes had done it, people wouldn't find it funny, and they wouldn't do it, btw, but they would take your number!

SirChenjin · 11/03/2014 20:43

Oh come off it - anyone who parks that closely to another vehicle even after they've seen the driver with a 3 year old and a 1 year old, knows they will struggle to get them into the car, and still maintains it's not their problem is a knobhead who doesn't deserve to be danced around.

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 20:43

Do supermarket car parks have CCTV?

SirChenjin · 11/03/2014 20:45

Some do, some don't. I suspect she'd have had a call from the police by now if he'd wanted to pursue it

formerbabe · 11/03/2014 20:46

I reckon even if the op said

'Excuse me kind sir, would you mind awfully moving your light goods vehicle so I can put my children in my motor vehicle without struggling?'

The c**t would still have told her to fuck off.
