This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

mrswazowski I only have that issue if i leave them tilted upside down for a while. I did have an issue with my iclear30b which turned out to be a dodgy seal on the atomizer and they replaced it, but thats a bottom coil so i'm not sure a top coil would be effected the same.

OH is at work and i'm vaping away on his itaste 134.

SO buying the mini next week. And possibly an MVP 2 shortly after. I want a few decent mods for when this shitty legislation comes in.

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 11:29

And WTF We can post pictures???

Yeahhhhhh look at my babies.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 11/03/2014 11:54

Flock WHAT is that one in the last picture? It looks like a light saber! Is that one not really really heavy? What does it do that is different?

magimedi · 11/03/2014 12:43

Babies? Babies? Full grown geezers more like. Grin

OP posts:
FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 13:45

Schro

The white one is an itaste VV v3 with an iclear 30b, variable voltage wattage and ohm reader

The biggest one with all the metal things down it is an iTaste 134 and is OHs baby really, i've jacked it for the day while he's at work. It is quite heavy yeah haha. It's variable voltage and wattage, its just a big huge mod it's really good. It has a little processor in it so it doesnt need an ohm reader

The one next to the itaste (The plain silver one) is a VamoV5 which is variable wattage and voltage and has an ohm reader and is telescopic, it can be bigger than that.

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 13:47

it his way iff the itaste 134 got in a fight with a car window, i'd be betting on the itaste coming off better. It's a beast lol.

Got an iclear 16 on it and it's lie when you meet a really big beefy bloke and he has a tiny cock. It looks ridiculous.

But is nice with redastair in it.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 13:58

Is it worrying that could tell you what all of those were even though I don't have any of them?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 14:15

Woohoo!

Nest of Vapers- we continue to not BU to carry on vaping!!
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 14:17

Flock, which is better do you think, the vamo or the itaste 134? Also, is the 134 as much of a dust trap as it looks?

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 15:14

The Vamo is better for taking out and about because its telescopic, But i prefer the iTaste at home, it really is lovely.

The only thing ive found to complain about it that its not pising symmetrical. The 'itaste 134' on the bottom section is not level with the button and that angers me greatly.

Pretty good mod when thats all ive got to complain about though haha.

It's not been cleaned yet and it looks fine, cottonbuds would do it though and i reckon i could get one of those really thin cheap baby wipes under the metal bar thingys if i had to!

What have you done with the cigalike???

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 15:23

Grin It's a vaporlite 'mod'. I modded it with bogroll and sellotape and a leaky CE4.

RichTeaAreCrap · 11/03/2014 18:05

Oh I have loved reading this thread. I am so motivated to stop smoking. I am going to the smoking clinic on Saturday to see the nurse.

I did fancy trying Champix because I thought that it would be the only thing that would work for me, but having read how brilliantly you are all doing vaping I am determined to do it without tablets.

I smoke a lot - 20 a day and have done for 20 years. I hate it now and for health reasons along with the money I would save, I am determined.

I tried an e-cig a couple of years ago - it looked like a cigarette but didn't have a tank that I filled with any liquid? It didn't do it for me at all but I have read that the ones with tanks are so much better.

Could anyone recommend where I start and what I should buy. I think I will need the tobacco flavour to begin with but cant wait to try all the flavours I read about. I think I need something hard-core to help me through the first few weeks! What should I buy?

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 18:06

What sort of budget do you have RichTea?

RichTeaAreCrap · 11/03/2014 18:13

Queen, I don't really mind what it costs - if it stops me smoking it will be saving me a huge amount of money.

Are there different ones then with a varying price range? Do you think the more expensive ones are better?

Sorry for all the questions I am new to this.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 18:36

You can get a starter kit for about £15 which most people will be happy with for a while then upgrade to better kit. If I could go back and do it all again then I'd go straight for one of these fo £36 and save myself a fortune in kit that I don't use any more. The battery on that one will last you a couple of days between charging, charges off a standard phone charger and has variable voltage and wattage so you can whack up the power if you need to. You can also charge your phone from it if you're caught short. I'd also recommend a couple of these for trying out different flavours in and a few different flavours. You'll probably spend a week's worth of fag money on some good kit and enough juice to do you a couple of weeks.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 18:42

I've never vaped a tobacco flavour but I think RY4 is normally well liked - I recommend a 24mg if you think you need something hardcore to begin with.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 18:55

I found myself looking for a blue line in the window at that picture Flock Grin

Respect for the kit! I really should upgrade for the reasons you give.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 18:57

Plenty, the cigalike mod is inspired! I've thrown away mine, and the leaky CE4s.

Full marks for creativity Smile

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2014 19:16

RichTea if you go to the smoking clinic they won't be allowed to recommend any form of e-cigs, they can only advise on the "official" things like NRT (patches, sprays) and aversion tablets like Champix.

If you have a bricks and mortar vaping shop nearby, I would strongly recommend you go there. It would likely cost a bit more to get your kit there than from an on-line shop, but the advice and support they can give is invaluable - and they may even let you try out different kit and flavours of liquid Smile. Otherwise, I think there are some pretty decent links to on line kit that's good for starters in this thread as well as the previous ones.

I'm completely with you on the cigalikes, they didn't do it for me either though they did help me to halve from 30 a day to 15. But after 2 months of vaping using decent kit I've been 4 weeks cigarette free now, and have a range of different flavours to suit every mood though I still vape tobacco flavour last thing at night & first thing in the morning.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 19:29

My FastTech order and Preciousssss. It looks best with a yellow clearo but that's drying out in my meth lab airing cupboard.

Unless you live in Leicester! Thanks to the enlightened manager, Louise Ross, they're currently doing a pilot study, suggesting ecigs (proper tank system ones) alongside licensed products. They're not allowed to prescribe you one but can offer a £30 voucher for participating in the study. Guest post on Clive Bates' blog here. Louise was also a guest on .

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 19:38

Ooh shiney! look at all those shit earwigs in your ego case! Grin

RichTeaAreCrap · 11/03/2014 19:46

Thank you Queen and Allergic, really helpful. I've been looking for a shop nearby but can't find one so this thread is brilliant.

How long will 20ml of liquid last for? And the dual coil thingies that you suggested buying a couple of - how do you do different flavours? If you buy different ones do you need to use a different dual coil for each flavour? Or can you wash them out when empty and fill with something else?

So sorry for all the questions!

RichTeaAreCrap · 11/03/2014 19:50

Also, one other question - can I buy different flavour from different websites? Do you just receive liquid and pour it into the glass dual coils?

Ledare · 11/03/2014 19:51

The case was a bit squashed when it arrived but it is plumping up.

The shit earwigs are all clean! It's my fault for not getting on with iClears and liking the crackling great vape I get from fake GS-H2s Grin
