This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

They sell those cases in my local shop - & I am quite sure I can persuade Kat to sell shit earwigs - just for the meet!

Richtea - I like tobacco flavour & can highly recommend the following:

www.ecigwizard.com/e-liquid/wizmix/the-sherlock.html

I've been using them for sometime & have never had any problems.

Have to confess that having gone down to a 6 strength I am back up on to 12 again.

The wretched black dog of depression hit me hard this week & more nicotine certainly helped. Hey Ho!

I think I just needed to get used to the iclear16s. They're not really leaking, it's more like there is condensation dripping down. I've been unscrewing the mouth piece and tipping it out. A bit of a faff, but I do like the vape it gives.

I'm impressed by your kit flock, makes mine look a bit understated.

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2014 20:08

RichTea the average usage of liquid for a 20 a day smoker is estimated to be in the region of 20ml per week. To fill the tank you need to remove the tip/mouthpiece on those ones, then very carefully dribble the liquid down the sides of the tank being careful not to let it get into the metal centre thingy.

You definitely want to use different tanks for different flavours, or at least clean them out thoroughly in between flavours, as the liquid soaks into the "wick" and you'll get the 2 tastes together. Of course you may find some marvellous mixture of different flavours you like that way, but I wouldn't recommend that to start with!

My favourite tobacco flavour is this one - tastes like the smell of fresh unburned rolling tobacco rather than cigs Grin.

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2014 20:11

MsWazowski try what we are calling "shit earwigs", i.e. the very ultra cheapest cotton buds you can find. They usually a skinny & stingy enough to fit easily into the mouthpiece of your iClear 16, or even the main tube in a GS-H2

MsWazowski · 11/03/2014 20:18

I will thanks Allergic, next time I get to a shop I'll have a look.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 20:23

PoundWorld do the best. I went especially to a PoundSaver on a retail park and it was Johnson's only Shock

Pipe-cleaners don't work IME because the aren't absorbent enough but I am happy to pass them on to anyone wanting to try.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 20:25

Sorry, Pound LAND! Too many Pound shops. I remember when they were new and DH and his BIL used to go in ask the price of things Hmm Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 20:28

Have you got the proper cotton ones Ledare? The 'craft' sort are nylon I think and wouldn't be absorbent.

My favourite tobacco flavour is RY4 mixed with RY6, both from Premier Ecigs (RY6 is in the premium liquids). Whatever you get, buy small bottles to start with. You might surprise yourself with what you like and what you don't.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 20:30

I'm too lazy to clean between flavours RichTea so I just have a few different tanks and when I want to switch to a new flavour I put it in the tank that has the flavour I think will match the new flavour best. So fruity flavours in a fruity tank, dessert flavours in another, baileys in the tank that had tirimusu flavour etc.

Ledare · 11/03/2014 20:32

It's more that the metal bit pokes out no matter how you cut them or try to fold it in.

Fantastic advice about small bottles. I have another two 5ml to try but I'm vaping just two flavours after six weeks having tried over thirty. I would never have imagined that I'd restrict myself to these ones and yet I'm ordering in 30ml.

littlemisssarcastic · 11/03/2014 20:35

Sorry to ask for help again. I have seen this kit and am quite sure it consists of 2 batteries and 2 clearomisers, but one of the pictures is of a double ended kind of ecig so that has made me doubt what it is exactly that is being offered.

Would anyone mind casting their eyes over it and telling me what you think?

I've never used this site before, so don't want to part with money for something unless I know what it is.

I might even get myself a kit too if it is compatible with what I have got already, ie: ego ce4 charger and clearomisers.

Sorry in advance. I get confused with what's what and don't want to advise my friend or buy something that she or I may not be able to use.

littlemisssarcastic · 11/03/2014 20:38

Ooh, I just looked again and the picture of the double ended ecig has vanished. Confused.

It does say though that the tip lights up like a real cig. That's not what I have got, so not sure if this is like mine or not. Confused

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 21:58

Very good plenty haha, DIY :)

Thankyou people haha.

I have told DP that i shall be purchasing an itaste 134 mini. Well. In fact he will, because he doesn't mind asking for money off. The guy near me sells the mini with batteries charger and the new iclear clearo but i don't need a charger and depending what batteries cone with it, i may not want the batteries.

He knocked a tenner off OHs itaste vv v3 for that reason so he can go and negotiate me a good price.

I want to order an mvp 2 to put away for when this shit legislation comes in. I was showing my mum earlier and even she was impressed. Well, at least, her eyes didn't glaze over like they usually do when i start vape talk.

I forced donated my ego c twist and my standard egos and some clearos to my brother and his gf last week too. They are happy!

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2014 22:03

Littlemiss the glowing end bit is in the summary about e-cigs in general, reading on it then says next step is ego etc.

The kit does look like a decent ego type starter kit, with everything you need apart from liquid and a bit more than some of the basic ones elsewhere. If it specifically says Ego then that's what it has to be rather than a clone, so I guess I'd go for it.

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 22:04

Ohhh, a question for those who understand legislation a bit better than me.

OH was showing me some mechanical mods earlier. He doesn't understand them and frankly, niether do i in as far as i wouldn't buy one over the current mods on the market.

It is basically as far as i can tell, in separate purchases, a metal tube with a basic piece of circuitry in it and a button, two plates either end for battery and clearo. It is basically the shell of a basic e cig.

Then separately you can buy a kicker to add variable voltage/wattage functions, batteries to complete the circuit and you attach a tank (usually a fully rebuildable one).

I cant see how these things can be banned because on there own they are NOT e cigs. You can do NOTHING with each one on its own.

So, way round the legislation? Is this what we will be using in a few years time??

Unless I'm missing something, on their own, its no different than the way shops can sell bongs and crackpipes, but not weed or crack. Because on their own theyre useless.

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2014 22:11

The one bit I would question in that Flock is the "metal tube with a basic piece of circuitry in it and a button". All the other bits & pieces you could probably get from an electrical supplier & they would have other uses, but I can't think off hand whether there would be any other use for the tube with the same circuitry. But the new legislation doesn't have anything in there to say it would be illegal to make vaping kit for yourself, just that they can't be sold in the EU.

So yes this could well be the way forward especially for those who want vv/vw; the people selling it will just have to be careful that they don't say anything on the packaging about it being a kit I think?

littlemisssarcastic · 11/03/2014 22:28

Thanks Allergic. I will send my friend the link and see what she thinks. Smile

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 22:30

OH says that the shell, the metal tubing with the button and circuitry is no different to a torch casing. If you got a 510 threaded lightbulb, that is what it would be.

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 22:40

Now i'm on the PC this is what i'm talking about

Body - To take it further, And really have very little come back, you could change that plate at the top and i can't see any way of restricting that without impossible bans on every other device with a metal tube and a button. Then buy the top plate (The bit that connects the atomizer to battery) separately.

VV/VW Kicker For VW setting

Battery

I mean, Thats essentially what any mod is really. I use those batteries for my vamo. And my OHs had a few e cigs in bits (Worked in electrics, habit i guess lol, he used to work wiring things up, like fair rides etc, he's worked on pretty much every fair ride youll see haha) and the circuitry is very basic.

I know i keep going on about it but i really do think theyre going to struggle to govern it for those who already know what to look for.

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 22:42

Oh and this, fully rebuildable atomizer. Of course, some just on this thread are getting very good at rewicking etc but these things can be sold bit by bit. They cant possibly govern bits of metal, polycarbonate and cotton.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 22:46

I've just raised a ticket with FastTech asking them whether they'll be stocking the itaste 134 mini. They have the regular one for £64 without batteries or charger but with an iclear30.

phoolani · 11/03/2014 22:47

Ok, you said ask any question...can somebody please just direct me to a website and give me a list of the basics I need to get started? I've browsed on a couple of sites but none of them seem to provide an obvious 'starter kit' and I lose heart trying to get through the blurb. Lazy I know but somebody needs to save me from the evil fag..

FlockOfTwats · 11/03/2014 22:58

Phoo

A few different price ranges, But all contain the essential kit

Double evod - Has two batteries, two clearos and a charger, plus 5 replacement coils.

I taste EP kit - Slightly more expensive as really you'd want two kits so you have a spare, Each kit has a battery, charger and two clearomisers.

Itaste vv v3 - One of my favourite. Comes with a battery, five clearomisers and charger. Spare battery available here. Most expensive out of these three but if you can spend it i really would. The batteries are also passthrough on this one so you can use it while it charges.

Any of these three options would give you what you need to just fill up and go.

They also do liquids but you might find you want to try a few brands, taste varies so much. I like dekang, the next person might find them a bag of shit.

QueenStromba · 11/03/2014 23:00

This looks good as a starter kit phoolani - pick a liquid to go with it, either the 16mg if you aren't a major nicotine addict or the 24mg if you are a major addict.

phoolani · 11/03/2014 23:19

Thanks, Twats and queen. Will check them out.
