This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Oh Ledare! What dreadful thing. I do hope your precious recovers.

If it's any consolation, a friend put his smart phone in with his washing once. He put it in rice and it was made well again.

Years ago, I had a cigalike which I dropped in the garden and couldn't find. A year later dd found it, I put it down somewhere in the house and forgot about it (I'd never liked it). A couple of weeks later I found it and it still worked. Remarkably hardy these things Smile here's hoping!

Cantabile · 07/03/2014 15:05

Oh, quick question - are we not going to fill up the old thread?

WreckTangle · 07/03/2014 15:54

Hi, I bought an e-cig today. Fairly restricted on what type to buy (small village)

Anyway, it's a Vapourlite one, no instructions really so hope I'm doing it right.

Confused about the talk of tanks and juice Confused I bought the cig and 5 refills. I have a charger thing that attaches to my iphone plug. How do I know when it needs charged. It has a weird smell, it's tobacco flavour.

(Marking place on twatphone)
Ledaire, I'd be gutted Hmm
I lost my spare battery for a day last week, was miserable until I found it again.

Ledare · 07/03/2014 16:26

Is that why it's known as the twatphone?

KatieScarlett2833 · 07/03/2014 16:41
Confused Bloody site crashed Smile
Ledare · 07/03/2014 16:43

Wait.

You have ONE spare battery?

Allergictoironing · 07/03/2014 16:48

Hi Wrecktangle. Have a careful read of the post at the start of the thread, hopefully that should help you understand a bit more about the terminology being used Smile. It was based on the notes I had made myself when trying to work out what everything meant, then I thought if I was confused then so might others be.

I have moved on a bit when it comes to the kit I use (that was initially written quite a few weeks back), but tbh not by very much!

Allergictoironing · 07/03/2014 16:49

Ledare I only have 2 spares - but 2 more ordered that are still in the bloody post from FastTech

KatieScarlett2833 · 07/03/2014 16:54

My fastech order is on it's way Grin
Then I'll have 4... Grin

Ledare · 07/03/2014 17:05

Ooh... my case might turn up soon. It has been almost a month.

Vaping is more than a habit. It's a hobby!

FlockOfTwats · 07/03/2014 17:11

Oooo new thread :)

I have got some flavoru art black jack, and some vampire vape sherbet lemon today :D

Thinking of asking my local retailers to post that eu directive thing on their website/fb pages...

littlemisssarcastic · 07/03/2014 17:37

Hi vapers,

Can anyone recommend a durable battery to replace my EGO CE4 please?

I currently have 2 EGO CE4's and already have the clearomisers to fit these, but I think my batteries are reaching the end of their life span, so will need to order more batteries.
Should I stick with the CE4? Or can anyone recommend another battery that may last me longer, and therefore need less charging, thus hopefully last as long as possible?

magimedi · 07/03/2014 17:41

I use ego batteries & have been using mine for about a year now. I have 3, use them in rotation & they are all still holding a good charge.

OP posts:
littlemisssarcastic · 07/03/2014 17:45

Mine are rapidly losing charge. Sad

I have 2 batteries which I have been using since the middle of December, so they've lasted me about 3 months now.

Just wondered what other options there were. Tried vaping, like it, so want to carry on, but not sure whether to order more CE4's or even what the alternatives are. Confused

QueenStromba · 07/03/2014 17:53

I recommend an itaste MVP. They're a bit pricey but they're 2600mAh so last a day or two between charges even if you're a chain vaper.

littlemisssarcastic · 07/03/2014 17:57

Would the clearomisers I already have fit onto that battery Queen?

QueenStromba · 07/03/2014 17:58

Yeah, it's got standard ego/510 threading so will fit any standard clearo.

KatieScarlett2833 · 07/03/2014 18:01

I've ordered an innoken I taste SVD variable voltage kit. Anyone know if this is any good (wibble) as I got carried away with shinyitis...

QueenStromba · 07/03/2014 18:03

It also charges from a standard phone charger and works while it's charging. It's variable voltage and wattage which means you can whack it up if your clearo is on the way out and not producing much vapour or you can turn it down if the clearo is overheating and giving a burnt taste.
You can also charge your phone from it in an emergency.

littlemisssarcastic · 07/03/2014 18:03

Thanks Queen. It looks just the job. Smile

QueenStromba · 07/03/2014 18:04

Someone on these threads has one and is very enamoured with it Katie. I really don't think you can go wrong with an innokin.

littlemisssarcastic · 07/03/2014 18:05

Any idea what the lifespan is? My EGO CE4's have lasted me just under 3 months.
How long have you had yours? Do you have one or more?
