This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

They have their good side effects too, definitely losing weight without trying and probably because I no longer have a sweet tooth due to vaping loads of sweet flavours!

stinkysox · 25/03/2014 20:57

Ilove Thank you
Schro will do, thanks

magimedi · 26/03/2014 16:53

Waves to Sole

Lovely to see you here & good for you for starting vaping!

When I started (18 months ago - not stealth bpoast at all) I mixed vaping & rollies for a week or so & then just stopped the rollies & vaped. Haven't looked back and I didn't put on any weight which was amazing!

Puff, puff, Sole

My va per does not have a necklace for it. Will search EBay.

magimedi · 26/03/2014 17:06

Sole - by a necklace do you mean something you can put it in & hang round your neck - like this:

I have one I don't use - if you want it pm me your address & I'll pop it in the post to you - as long as I can find it!!

Can I just recommend Red Astaire as a flavour. I got some today and it is to die for. Tastes like cherry tunes!! I am fed up with just fruit flavours and this is a fab change. I am sure some of you will love it!

SoleSource · 26/03/2014 17:25

Thank you magi, I have Pm'd you!

My clearomisers have all decided to go on strike. I'm not sure why. Hmm
I was merrily puffing away yesterday when suddenly there was no puff. Full battery, but no vaping was happening.
Swapped the clearomiser for another and same thing happened.
Tried a 3rd, brand new out of packaging and still nothing.
All of these clearomisers are boge ones I have used before with no problems.
Have put a different make clearomiser on and it's working fine. Hmm
Any ideas?
I know it takes a few puffs to get a brand new clearomiser going but this is more than that. I have them screwed on properly but there's no resistance when I inhale and I can hear the airflow going through them IYSWIM.

Any advice before I buy more?

magimedi · 26/03/2014 20:18

Littlemiss you need to open up your clearo & twist the wick on more tightly!

You have probably untwisted the wick whilst changing batteries.

Jesus - that sounds very dubious - but it's true!

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 26/03/2014 20:22

Or it could be that you've screwed the battery down too tightly and you've pushed in the centre pin. You might just need to pull it out slightly, gently with tweezers.

littlemisssarcastic · 26/03/2014 20:24

Thanks magimedi and ginmakesitallok. I'll try those suggestions and report back. Grin

SoleSource · 26/03/2014 20:44

My v aper rolled under the sofa and I tried a cigarette instead. Stubbed it out halfway, tasted yuck!!!!!!! Prefer my v aper Grin

magimedi · 26/03/2014 22:15

"And then my poor meatball rolled out of the door"

Was the song that came to mind, Sole.

So pleased that you are another vaping convert.

Necklace will be i nthe post tomorrow.

DH is very happy with all that has been found during the search for said necklace!

Allergictoironing · 27/03/2014 10:10

A good word to search on if you're looking for the necklace things is Lanyard.

Allergictoironing · 27/03/2014 16:00

Ok BIG test tomorrow. First job interview since completely packing up smoking, at a very posh organisation. No formal job description provided, and a really complex structure to try to get to grips with. Main interviewer not found on LinkedIn.

I know perfectly well it's all in my mind, and would probably hate myself (and the taste/experience!) if I did have a cigarette, but I have this urge to dive down the shops & buy a pack. Currently trying to de-stress by eating Lemon Meringue flavour ice cream, and telling myself that I won't fit their "image" anyway so have very little chance of getting the job so stressing is pointless Sad.

Tell me I really don't want a cigarette!

KatieScarlett2833 · 27/03/2014 16:17

Don't do it Allergic!
You are far to cool for the stinkies and new job people would be damn lucky to get you.
Don't make me go all Scots on your arse, now Wink

Allergictoironing · 27/03/2014 16:33

Unfortunately most jobs in my field look at image (even though not customer facing) and seem to think elegant looking = good at the job. At a little over 5 feet tall and about the same wide, with a dodgy leg/foot that means very low or no heels, elegant isn't exactly easy is damned impossible!

But you using the word "stinky" has really helped, as I don't want to go in all smelly tomorrow Shock. It has reminded me that I can smell cigarettes on other people now at 10 paces, so anyone else would smell that awful ashyness on me.

And please no not all Scots on my arse! Can think of few more scary things (in a good way I mean)

magimedi · 27/03/2014 17:00

Don't you DARE have a stinky. If you do our great vape meet is O - F - F!

And enormous good luck!

You'll wow them - look how bloody eloquent you are, woman!
