Nest of Vapers- we continue to not BU to carry on vaping!!

This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

I am happy, I sing, I dance, I leap for joy!!

I gloat & some of you are going to be very Envy

Ecig Wizard have opened a real live shop just a mile from my home that sells all their liquids, including my beloved Sherlock!! Much cheaper than buying on line & no postage!! Run by a lovely couple & lots of chance to try out any flavour you want! I tried Dark Horse & quite liked it!

So I have 2 ecig shops really close to me!

I sing, I dance, I gloat....................

Whoope!!

Gloating over other's misfortune, especially when it's not their fault, is mean (cats bum face). Envy.

Love you really Magi Grin

Shonajoy · 24/03/2014 12:16

Wow, more great advice! That you all so much- hadn't thought about the battery, thank god you mentioned that lol.

I'm loving this picture posted above- I want one of those what are they? And can you buy fancy vaporisers too? Since I now have money to spend after giving up the cigs, I can buy another one. I think I'd like to do that, in case I lose one, so I'm never without it.x

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 12:35

Shona those are snazzy clearos, that's the tank and atomiser/vapouriser combo part of your e-cig. Any clearo that says it's Ego compatible or has 510 thread/fitting will fit your battery. There are loads of different ones available out there ranging from fully disposable like your CE4 through ones you can replace the coil, to ones where you can rebuild the coil yourself. The ones in your pic look like eVod bottom coils to me - replaceable coil and will fit your ego battery. If you want to look at really "out there" ones just browse a few web sites; I'm sorely tempted with these for next time I do an order there Grin.

Batteries come in so many different sizes & pretty patterns, and even shapes too; again have a poke around the various on line retailers to see what's about.

QueenStromba · 24/03/2014 13:07

I think the ones in the picture are iclear 16bs - this is a good price for them.

Shonajoy · 24/03/2014 13:14

Allergic thankyou! There wasn't enough info in my packet, I really am clueless. Wish they'd include more, you feel like such a fool asking daft questions thankyou very much. I love the look of those and also the five fancy ones.

Do you dispose of these after a certain time?x

Jux · 24/03/2014 13:41

There are no daft questions, Shona Smile, there are things some people know which others don't, that's all.

Ledare · 24/03/2014 14:09

Thanks for the pics Allergic. Very nice!

Yes, the clearos are iclear 16bs. A spinner / twist in each colour would look good with them I think...

WTFlike · 24/03/2014 14:34

Dealextreme (dx.com) say they've moved all their e-cig products to sister business dxmall.com. Much the same as Fastech.

QueenStromba · 24/03/2014 14:46

Is it worrying that I can tell the difference between a kanger evod and an iclear 16b even though I don't have either of them? I think I need to spend less time window shopping my myepack and fasttech.

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 14:47

Argh my eyes! Can't find a way of filtering that site down into categories e.g. batteries, clearos, cases etc. Just 25 random screens of Stuff in a jumbled order (and very few brand names).

though I did find it amusing to see a cigarette rolling machine, and a "real" pipe 7 stand, in among the e-cig stuff Grin

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 14:47

Bah pipe & stand - bloody shift key!

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 14:49

You are light years ahead of me in knowledge Queen, but I too can lose a good hour or more just window shopping at either of those places.

Sook slooooowly SP er, Derek Wink

Well, one of my slow tech packages finally arrived. Some dekang fruit punch. Shame I'm still waiting on my new itaste and clearos that I ordered a month ago so can't actually use it... Smile

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 17:00

Hi EatS and welcome - it was me suggested you come here Smile. It may be worth you skimming the rest of this thread (and the preceding 3!) at some stage, but I've copied below part of a post I did recently for another new vaper who had the same sort of problem.

There are different mixes of the base "carrier" liquid, some are stronger throat hit & some are more vapour in general - see if you can find one that has more VG than PG as the base.

You may find you need to adjust your style of vaping. By this I mean much slower & shallower (& maybe shorter) drags than with a real cigarette, approach it like you would if you were going to take a drag of someone's un-tipped Gaulouise! I do know a few people who found vaping would dry their throats out a bit more when they first started, and needed to drink more until they got used to it.

I (and many other vapers I know) have discovered that the pattern of vaping is also different from smoking. With a cigarette you light one then smoke it all. With an e-cig people mostly seem to use it more frequently, but not consistently vape for the time a cigarette would take to smoke but only a few drags at a time.

magimedi · 24/03/2014 17:02

Waves to Derek

Lovely to see you here.

If you go back to the very first page of this thread you'll see that I copied Allergic's guide to vaping & it gives a lot of know how about how to get on with it.

Aw poor Katie Sad. I will never ever let myself run out of clearos, charged batteries & the like because I'm absolutely paranoid. If I don't have at least 1-2 new unused clearos around I get into a bit of a cold sweat, and waiting until the morning to put one of my (now 4) batteries on charge so it wouldn't be hooked up overnight frets me.

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 17:05

Yep EatS, you hold the button down all the time while taking a drag. Don't worry about asking loads of newby type questions, we are all happy to help any new vaper - we all had to ask them ourselves at some point

magimedi · 24/03/2014 17:06

Yes - but you can only (on most) only keep it pressed down for about 8 seconds.

I am just as paranoid as you, Allergic.!

You can use any juice you want.

18mg is what most 20 a day smokers start with.

I was a 20 a day (40 years of it) rollie smoker & I started with 18mg & now use 12mg.

I get through 2 x 10ml bottles per week - which costs me about £6!

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 17:12

Magi when I smoked I would get the jitters if I ever dropped below 3 full spare packs in the cupboard JUST in case something happened & I couldn't get out to the shops, so possibly a hold-over from that. I also stress if I have less than £50 in cash at any one time, milk drops below a couple of pints (there's only me living here), or any of my stock baking ingredients drops below I full spare packet/6 eggs. Possibly because of a couple of accidents I've had over time combined with the knowledge that there IS only me in this house, and my poor DSIS who is the only really close mate/relative works 2 jobs most of the time & couldn't always drop everything just to rescue me.

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 17:15

EatS when you get the chance to go back over some of the old posts, you'll see plenty of recommended on line dealers for the liquid. In theory any liquid should be fine to go in your kit, though certain types of flavourings can affect the platic the "tank" part is made out of - those normally say something on the retailers site though.

I too can be an annoying shit Grin
