This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

It doesn't look as robust as the 134. I know I shouldn't buy one because I'll end up with a 134 mini at some point anyway.

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 18:31

If you got it from myepack then it's an MVP 2 - it just doesn't mention that it the title.

Ledare · 13/03/2014 18:35

I had a contraceptive pill appointment earlier. Blood pressure and then a "well done" for stopping smoking.

I may have evangelised a bit Blush

So much so that the lovely Dr didn't get a word in edgeways and I had to go back to ask if my blood pressure was okay. It was spot on - another benefit of vaping Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 18:41

The more I look at the 134 the more I don't like the look of it - all those nooks and crannies would be full of bits of grot in no time if I had one.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 18:42

Brilliant Ledare!

Cantabile · 13/03/2014 19:20

My problem with the higher end of vaping is size and weight. In a way, I'd like to join you all with an MVP, pass rough thingie, but the 1300 Snoop Dogg spinner is as big as I am comfortable with. I have a debilitating condition which has made me weak, and the spinner is as about as heavy as I can go. Those big square things would just be too uncomfortable to hold for any length of time.

How big is the Vamo? If it's bigger than the spinner I've got then I'll be buggered.Sad

Ledare, hooray for normal blood pressure! Grin

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 19:22

The vamo is pretty big too.

Ledare · 13/03/2014 19:31

Thanks all.

So sorry to hear that Cantabile Sad

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 19:40

With all this talk of higher end kit, I have to say - we have 3 ego batteries bought as part of those really cheap starter kits from paradise vape back in october and they're still great! DH uses them all the time and I use one when my mvp is charging. They're 900 mah and still last almost a day between charges.

FlockOfTwats · 13/03/2014 19:46

Plenty The v5 is a lovely mod. Its telescopic so can be small enough to take out and about.

Very cheap too OH has become a vape snob and was surprised with its performance.

Hes also jealous of my mvp and keeps trying to nick it. More so now i have red astaire in it. He hypes over that stuff non stop.

FlockOfTwats · 13/03/2014 19:49

Queen The vamo? If we are measuring robustness in what hurts when you accidentally twat yourself/your child as it wanders past, the itaste is more robust.

Its definitely heavier.

Cantabile Itaste vv v3 if you want a pass through, vv vw mod. Its the same size as a normal one. About 30 quid for one with 5 iclear 16 clearos. I have one and its fabulous :)

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 19:50

How do you and your DP rate the MVP versus the vamo versus the 134 Flock?

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 20:03

I'm really tempted by this - vamo V5, batteries, charger and 2 CE4s for £25.

Cantabile · 13/03/2014 20:04

Thanks Flock. I'll check it out - I'm just thinking ahead to when the EU crap takes effect, and what I might do when my illegal battery types need replacing.

I have a question about Hangsen/FastTech. I got some lovely lovely butterscotch from them and they only do it in 10ml bottles, and it took aaaages to get here. I am trying to find a quicker way of getting it (running out and have to ration it!) and have found some UK sites which supply Butterscotch in 30ml quantities, but the 'best' one (cheapest) say PG base or VG base, and the one I got - and want - is 70/30 PG/VG. Wha......?!

FlockOfTwats · 13/03/2014 20:07

OH is a vape snob who shouldn't be listened to for these things. If the mvp was twice as big and cost a hundred quid hed have come in his pants. He is shaking his head and shrugging and said the 134 is the best mod ever.

Personally i think they all have their good points, i think quality wise the mvp and the 134 are even, i prefer them both to the vamo BUT the vamo has the shape/size advantage and i still love mine.

If i had to choose only one of the three id choose the mvp though. Its shape makes it awkward for putting in my pocket but it isn't big enough to be totally impractical, isn't stupidly heavy, and is just amazing quality plus has a massive battery life.

its definitely my favourite so far and i struggle to see how it would be beaten for me.

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 20:07

If you really love it and are sure you'll get through it then you could always buy two bottles of PG and one of VG then mix.

QueenStromba · 13/03/2014 20:09

So you're saying that since I already have two MVPs then I don't need a vamo or a 134 but your DP thinks I should get a 134?

FlockOfTwats · 13/03/2014 20:17

well, if it were going to be your only big mod i'd say don't get one because it is impractical. But it is a brilliant at home mod so if you want one, it wont disappoint.

I want a mini purely because i want to stock up on a few different mods for when that legislation comes in.

Cantabile The vamo does go very small. And as said the advantage with these sort of mods is that it doesn't matter if the battery is only small because you can have a couple on you for when that runs out. The picture is my vamo with a mini protank thing on, thats as small as it goes and tbh the weigt difference is negligable with a normal one.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 20:30

What's the airflow like Flock? Are those little dimples round the screwy end airholes?

Allergictoironing · 13/03/2014 20:31

Cantabile is the FastTech Hangsen juice got Hangsen labels on it? I think that Hangsen generally produce just one PG/VG blend type so if it isn't specified then I think it is that. However much of the Hangsen liquid sold in the UK is made up by the vendor using Hangsen flavourings, which is where you might get differing PG/VG ratios?

Bargain Vapour Hangsen is all imported, and you can buy silly large amounts - 14 Euro for 100ml Shock. I bought a 100ml pineapple & it came in a sealed 100ml bottle with a Hangsen label on it.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 20:36

Cantabile, you can get 100ml from Bargain Vapours - their stuff usually arrives in around a week. It doesn't say anything about VG/PG but I get my RY4 from there and it's 80/20 PG/VG.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 13/03/2014 20:37

x post Grin

Cantabile · 13/03/2014 21:14

Thanks, looking at Bargain Vapour now. Have ordered!

Flock, thanks for the photo, 7" isn't too bad. I think I'd be OK with that. Will put my name on a couple Grin

FlockOfTwats · 13/03/2014 21:55

plenty theyre just for decoration on the collar :) That particular tank is very loose no matter what its on though lol. I have an aerotank and its like that on its most open setting. My brothers description of it was 'wow thats easy to get a drag off' when he had a go lol.

cantabile If they dont come with batteries its 18350 you want if you want it to be that small :) Mine came with 18350s and ive only seen them sold in kits so you should get some with them :)

Ledare · 14/03/2014 17:27

I don't really like my itaste MPV shine which arrived today Sad

It is very pretty and even comes with spare sparkles (what is a beauty ring for, by the way?) but it just feels wrong.

It'll cost a lot to return as it's heavy, and DH thinks I should hang on to it just to have in my arsenal. I'm undecided.
