aibu to make ds sleep in a dog basket?

Ds is a chunky 4 month old who has grown out of his Moses basket. Our bedroom is a reasonable size but with our super king bed, nappy changing unit, wardrobes, and now a cot bed in it there is very little floor space and I thought that getting rid of the cot bed and buying a dog basket for ds to sleep in would make the room look larger and less cluttered. I can store it under our bed in the daytime to make things even tidier.

OH thinks it's a crazy idea to put a baby in a dog basket bit I am convinced it is a genius plan.

We don't own any pets so it's not like there will be any confusion over who sleeps in it.

Does it really matter how the room looks? It's only short term after all.

No. You can't put your baby in a dog basket. Mainly because you need a proper, safety tested mattress.

And also because it is a dog bed. Buy a bed guard and put the baby in with you, would probably be safer.

Personally I'd move the baby's cot out of your room and into his own room.

At dds nursery they have a sleeping corner with some dog baskets for the kids to nap in. That was what inspired me.

If be more inclined to ditch the changing unit and put him to sleep in the cot bed. You can change him on a mat on your bed, or on the floor. Less danger of him rolling and falling off too.

Move the changing unit into baby's room? I'd love to sleep in a big squashy dog bed but no, you can't put your baby in one.

What kind of dog basket?

Changing unit has to stay as it is a lovely hight for changing nappies and it is full of baby clothes and spare packs of nappies, cotton wool, etc which I buy in bulk.

Ds sleeps better in his own bed and doesn't like co sleeping, but still wakes once or twice a night for a feed so it's easier (and safer) for him to be in our room.

I never used a nappy changing unit, I had a piece of pvc that I put on the bed - a lot safer as ds was less likely to fall from the centre of the bed and a lot cheaper with a smaller footprint.

No you really shouldn't put your baby to sleep in a dog bed.
Move the changing unit out of your room obviously and keep your child in his cot bed.

That would be a better idea - then you could just slide it shut when not in use. (Checking that baby isn't still in there first, naturally).

My dog had to fight DS for the doggie bed.
DS was considerably older and maybe a bit refreshed though....

I had a mattress made for an extra large basket for the twins when they were very tiny. It wasn't that expensive. And the basket was sold as a dog bed. So your wine induced idea of genius isn't original I'm afraid!

I actually think it's fine IF you get a proper mattress.

What about a space-saver cot rather than a cotbed though? I also don't see why you can't put the changing unit in another room, most babies have stopped pooing in the night by 4mo and then if you find the right nappy, you will not need to change him at all during the night.
