aibu to make ds sleep in a dog basket?

Ds is a chunky 4 month old who has grown out of his Moses basket. Our bedroom is a reasonable size but with our super king bed, nappy changing unit, wardrobes, and now a cot bed in it there is very little floor space and I thought that getting rid of the cot bed and buying a dog basket for ds to sleep in would make the room look larger and less cluttered. I can store it under our bed in the daytime to make things even tidier.

OH thinks it's a crazy idea to put a baby in a dog basket bit I am convinced it is a genius plan.

We don't own any pets so it's not like there will be any confusion over who sleeps in it.

When the weather becomes more clement, you could build him a small kennel of his very own in the garden.

Why can't he sleep in the cot bed in your room? Have you been watching the brittas empire?

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 04/03/2014 23:25

Yes unreasonable. A dog bed provides no ventilation for the mattress- i believe this poses a risk of SIDS. and would also be on the floor so would be colder than a moses basket or cot. Move the sodding change table and stop being silly. Change him in the other room.

I like those dream corrales, lovely! Mine had a baby hammock until he grew out of it then a side car on my bed. But he was silent reflux clingy baby who really wanted cosleeping 24/7. I do wonder whether he'd have got on with a corrale though, so it's good to own the space himself

AnandaTimeIn · 05/03/2014 00:17

Oh right, you're more interested in the than the baby...

takes all sorts

AnandaTimeIn · 05/03/2014 00:18

splasheeny · 05/03/2014 01:06

This thread is hilarious.

Op I hope you're not serious.

I would ditch the change station and use a changer which can be put over the cot bed.

ExcuseTypos · 05/03/2014 01:59

Apart from the matress saftey, wouldnt it also be a bit drafty in a dog bed?
It's a daft idea.

Just move the changing table out of the room.

nappyaddict · 05/03/2014 03:06

There's a whole thread about this on http://www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/baby-794/babies-birth-12-months-58/835600-putting-babies-sleep-dog-baskets-all.html netmums .

Those people who have seen them in nurseries, were they plastic, material or wicker beds?

HannahG315 · 05/03/2014 03:24

Haha. This is brilliant!

I think it's genius as long as its safe of course!

Coumarin · 05/03/2014 03:35

Ah shove him in a drawer, he'll be right.

Hmm
nappyaddict · 05/03/2014 13:43

how long is he? I want an nct bednest for my next one cos they are 84cm long so will last longer than a moses basket. however the bassinet can be removed so can be used like a moses basket.

mistlethrush · 05/03/2014 14:26

ProudAS: "It didn't do our great grandparents any harm!" - my father was in a drawer when he was a baby I'll have you know. Hmm

AllFurCoat · 05/03/2014 16:10

I must be missing something here, there's a cotbed in the room, but you want to use a dog basket?! WTF?!

WreckTangle · 05/03/2014 16:52

You're bonkers op.

Love the skateboard idea though.

When he's potty training you can just put down some newspaper too.

scarffiend · 05/03/2014 16:59

I'm actually laughing out loud at this in the doctors waiting room. Funniest thread ever! Killing myself at the skateboard idea!
