To think that parents should occasionally let their pubic hair grow as nature intended to educate their children as to what adult bodies look like?

I have been having this discussion with dp, our dc are still very young so puberty is a long way off but I was wondering how children know that pubic hair is normal if they only every see their parents with minimal/absent pubic hair?

Dp has light hair and shaves his pubic hair most of the time so he doesn't really have any visable pubic hair, obviously that is his preference and his right to choose but do parents owe it to their children to show them what an unmodified adult body looks like so it isn't such a shock to them when they thelself start growing pubic hair?

A friend of mine told me that her 10 year old recently told her her pubic hair "needed a trip" the 10 year old will very likely have her own pubic hair soon and the idea of her thinking the correct thing to do is trim or get rid of the hair compleatly really makes me feel something has gone wrong in our society (and I remember the state of my legs when I first experimented with shaving!).

Anonymouse5540 why on earth did you search for and bump this thread just to say "NO!"? Confused

MySordidCakeSecret · 21/11/2015 16:58

is there a rota somewhere for the starting of a pubic hair thread?!

op i'm all for being relaxed about nudity with your dc until they reach puberty.. but i think you're overthinking it somewhat Hmm

besides i thought school and science lessons taught about this stuff?

DyslexicScientist · 21/11/2015 17:00

I like my men totally shaved down there but with some facial hair.

Surely we don't need public hair now we have clothes?

Leelu6 · 21/11/2015 17:13

Once you go bare, you don't go back.

dottycat123 · 21/11/2015 17:28

I do think that teens/young adults have a distorted view on normal bodies now, In the dottycat house I have never covered up, my 2 ds have always seen me naked with a rarely trimmed lady garden, I remind my ds that I am real and not the images they see online. Ds1 is at uni where he appears to be living life to the max, he tells me he has never seen public hair on a female of his own age.

OP, your point is perfectly valid. Each to their own. Taking the natural approach is great. Why bloody not! If you choose to use this in an attempt to set a good example, good for you. Sounds like you are giving it thought and consideration. Good parenting in my opinion

I personally have a group of suitable volunteers (uncles/aunts, neighbours, grandparents) to show a range of pubic topiary. Ensure a full range of colours, cuts, vajazzles etc.
Then, on a weekly basis have a naked dinner (to ensure it is a relaxed normal occasion) to make sure my DC know that what they want goes.
Try to encourage appropriate questions on stylist, colourist and sexual benefits of each choice.

Completely agree Compo MN is obsessed with pubic hair and familial nudity.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/11/2015 01:10

"what makes you think children are regularly exposed to their parent's pubic hair anyway??"

Young children go to the toilet with their parents don't they when using public toilets?
Obviously not at 10 years old...

LassWiTheWeelStockitFarm · 22/11/2015 01:12

Waltonswatcher1 shaving or veeting fore - arms will solve the problem.

I honestly can't remember ever sharing a public toilet cubicle with my son at any age.

Redglitter · 22/11/2015 01:16

I never saw either of my parents naked. If they were getting dressed or changed it was done in the bedroom

My current partner shaves and I must admit I really like it. Took a bit of getting used to mind you.

Unreasonablebetty · 22/11/2015 01:28

I don't think I'll read all 8 pages before replying.

I'd be a bit worried about exposing myself to my daughter in such a way that she would know anything about pubic hair!
It's of course something to be talked about, but blimmin Heck. I think that showing them your area is a bit far!

Senpai · 22/11/2015 03:45

When I give my child age appropriate sex ed lessons, I will be using scientific diagrams. Not my own genitals. Confused

That said, I really, really doubt they're going to be inclined to do it again after they shave the first time and get an irritation rash.

Senpai · 22/11/2015 03:48

-sigh-

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

I'm curious at what you had to search for to necromance this thread.

"I honestly can't remember ever sharing a public toilet cubicle with my son at any age."

Oh, I thought that's what people did. I don't have children myself and can only remember being a little girl and always going to the girls' toilet, but I thought little boys out with their mothers and not their fathers went to the ladies' toilet. In any case, little girls do.
