Someone has stolen my username.

I'm quite upset, I shouldn't be really.

I wouldn't be to bothered but they seem to post a lot more than me so are effectively making me the 'second' BumpandGrind.

Why would you pick a name of another member but just change the spelling slightly :(

Waves at BumpNGrind you arse Grin

candycoatedwaterdrops · 26/02/2014 18:16

If I decide to change my name, in theory, someone could use this one, is that right?

Anonymai · 26/02/2014 18:17

Not the exact name. It's yours forever.

NCISaddict · 26/02/2014 18:20

LtEve You've just made me buy yet another Dallas book, haven't read one for a while so my bank account is going to suffer now you've reminded me of her. Fabulous heroine and a good looking husband to boot. Smile

AlpacaPicnic · 26/02/2014 18:20

I luffs dramaalpaca - she always namechecks me!
Alpacalypse, drama and I have bumped into each other around the FYF thread a lot Wink

WhoNickedMyName · 26/02/2014 18:21

I think if you name-change, then someone else can take your original name while you're posting under your name-change... hence my name.

AlpacaPicnic · 26/02/2014 18:21

LtEve and NCIS - who would you cast as Eve and Roarke if there was a film?

Anonymai · 26/02/2014 18:23

They can't who. It stays in your list of names.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 26/02/2014 18:23

There's another BakerStreet, I don't know who was here first. I only spotted them recently.

But they don't love the sax rift.

ScentedScandal · 26/02/2014 18:23

Yanbu. But I think it would be really useful if we could have an a-z list of all names taken so that we don't inadvertently pick something close to someone else's.

GinSoakedMisery · 26/02/2014 18:25

YANBU

I saw someone with my old (original) username, was quite upset and was tempted to change back and chase them around mn. The only difference was mine had "the" in it and theirs has "a" in it.

There is also a ginsoaked something around, that one is annoying me.

ScentedScandal · 26/02/2014 18:26

Lol I am sitting here with my pre dinner ginBlush Anything with gin in it is a good nameGrin

NCISaddict · 26/02/2014 18:26

That's a good one, Roarke would have to be tall, dark and muscular but not'pretty' and I can't think of anyone who fits the bill off the top of my head. Eve, possibly Cote de Pablo who played Ziva in NCIS.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 26/02/2014 18:27

So, basically all you frequent name changers are using up all the names? Shock

MardyBra · 26/02/2014 18:27

Maybe there should be a base ruling.

  1. If the user has a commonly used element, then it should be copiable -e.g. mum/mama names, names with common animals are fair game. So there are lots of mamas, bears, etc.
  1. Unusual established names should not be copied - e.g hullygully, pagwatch, etc.
  1. Exception to rule 1. New users should relinquish the name if they choose one too close to an established user and confusion could occur. Examples from the past include solo and solo2, StealthPolarBear and StrandedPolarBear.

IMO, BumpNGrind violates rule three. Wink

GossamerHailfilter · 26/02/2014 18:28

No one has a username like mine I dont think.

MardyBra · 26/02/2014 18:29

Of course, there is a grey area between rules 1 and 2.

Wosson · 26/02/2014 18:31

DorothyBastard I'm trying to think of the thread that was when you probably chose your NN,

I seem to remember someone misspelt a word & it came out as DorothyBastard & I was Grin for ages!

WhoNickedMyName · 26/02/2014 18:31

Depends what your idea of an 'established user' is Mardy. I've never particularly noticed either Bump N/And Grind around, what makes someone established?

AlpacaYourThings · 26/02/2014 18:35

at DramaAlpaca, AlpacaLypse and AlpacaPicnic

Fairy1303 · 26/02/2014 18:36

See whenever I see Fairylea post I feel like we are kindred spirits and get a bit jealous that her name is better than mine

Dwerf · 26/02/2014 18:37

I bet mine is pretty unique Grin

Catsmamma · 26/02/2014 18:40

there are catsmothers nd variants all over the place here...I have been The Cats Mother since the internet was invented really. I might even be registered here as that but moved on and forgot....

can tech or HQ help out with that?? I may investigate. Or NC. :D

MardyBra · 26/02/2014 18:41

"Depends what your idea of an 'established user' is Mardy. I've never particularly noticed either Bump N/And Grind around, what makes someone established?"

Hmm had assumed from the OP and has been around a long while, so did quick advanced search.

BumpandGrind has 159 posts dating back to May 2013

BumpNGrind has 164 posts dating back to Dec 2013

N.B. Some threads may have been lost to chat rules.

So and got there first, but N has been more prolific recently. Is 159 post a bit lightweight and therefore undeserving of first dibs on the name?
