Rebekah Brooks Trial

I'm no fan of Rebekah Brooks but having watched the news reporting from court today I'm finding myself feeling incredibly sorry for her.

Apparently today she was questioned about her fertility issues. I mean what the hell does that have to do with phone hacking? According to the report I watched she was asked about her problems conceiving with Ross Kemp which prompted her to ask for a break in proceedings and she left the room in tears. Later she was questioned about the surrogacy that she and her current husband had gone through to get their daughter.

Seriously, how is that relevant/appropriate?! If she was a man I sincerely doubt she'd have been asked about such a private matter.

The idea that anybody should feel sympathy towards her is quite risible. She will do whatever is best for her. Why on earth would she change the habits of a lifetime.

caruthers · 24/02/2014 16:01

I haven't got one slight bit of sympathy for her.

Wasn't she arrested for domestic abuse?

Lottapianos · 24/02/2014 16:39

Private Eye predicted that she would have a baby through pregnancy or adoption about a year before the baby was born through surrogacy. They seemed convinced that it was a cynical move and I think they're probably right.

Totally agree with others on here who say she has a totally different moral compass to most people. The marriage breakdown and fertility issues were only brought up to garner sympathy. So cheap and cynical.

Essiebee · 24/02/2014 17:08

The questioning of Rebekah Brookes about her fertility treatment was a cynical ploy on behalf of her Defence team to win sympathy for her, most importantly in the minds of the jury. The dreadful thing is , these sort of things work; we don't realise how gullible we are.

henrysmate · 24/02/2014 17:26

Using your failed IVF to gain sympathy and try and sound more vulnerable so you appear less of a master manipulator? So sick I can't begin to describe my disgust and her and the insects that are bankrolling her defense.

normalishdude · 24/06/2014 12:19

Not guilty!

Tanith · 24/06/2014 12:21

Just utterly incompetent, then.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:22

Glad Andy Coulson has been found guilty but not happy she and her husband walk free.

BelleOfTheBorstal · 24/06/2014 12:26

Not guilty of what specifically?
Cleared of all charges? Seriously?

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:27

Yep, not guilty on all counts.

Saganoren · 24/06/2014 12:34

My friend who used to work with her said she'd charm the jury and it obviously worked.

Idiots

numptieseverywhere · 24/06/2014 12:35

this is a good result.
Of course she's innocent. Shouldn't have gone to trial.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:36

Yes, there truly are numpties everywhere.

numptieseverywhere · 24/06/2014 12:39

are you just assuming the jury are a bunch of brainless morons who haven't analysed every detail? Do you have more information than the jury? Do you know something they don't? If not, you're not really allowed an opinion.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:41

No, I was agreeing that you're a numpty.

numptieseverywhere · 24/06/2014 12:42

squoosh, when you resort to cheap shots, you've lost the argument :)

ExcuseTypos · 24/06/2014 12:44

Does anyone know the assistants defence for taking RBs notebooks from the archives and destroying them? I can't believe she was found not guilty of it!

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 24/06/2014 12:44

As I've just said on another thread (on Chat), I'm staggered by the verdict.

What about all that dodgy stuff, when people were hiding laptops in car parks, it's all on video for Pete's sake.

What did the jury think they were doing?

I dislike Andy Coulson, but he's clearly been made the whipping boy here.

Nancy66 · 24/06/2014 12:45

That's what a shit hot lawyer can do for you. Trevor Burke QC has one of the best success rates in the profession

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:46

A cliché and a pass agg smiley. You're really knocking them out of the park today.

I would be willing to guess that a lot of people who followed this trial will be unhappy if not wholly unsurprised at this verdict.

ExcuseTypos · 24/06/2014 12:47

Oh Tess I'd forgotten about the video of Charlie hiding the laptop. Wtf!!

normalishdude · 24/06/2014 12:48

Used her not inconsiderable feminine charms to full effect I reckon.

DenzelWashington · 24/06/2014 12:50

On what basis are the jury idiots? That's pretty harsh, considering they've sat there day in and day out listening to the evidence, we haven't.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 12:53

The woman admitted to paying police officers for information, but yeah, definitely not guilty.
