Rebekah Brooks Trial

I'm no fan of Rebekah Brooks but having watched the news reporting from court today I'm finding myself feeling incredibly sorry for her.

Apparently today she was questioned about her fertility issues. I mean what the hell does that have to do with phone hacking? According to the report I watched she was asked about her problems conceiving with Ross Kemp which prompted her to ask for a break in proceedings and she left the room in tears. Later she was questioned about the surrogacy that she and her current husband had gone through to get their daughter.

Seriously, how is that relevant/appropriate?! If she was a man I sincerely doubt she'd have been asked about such a private matter.

You are showing far more compassion for someone who has their back to wall than Brooks ever did seasicksal Which shows you are a decent human being.

AngelaDaviesHair · 22/02/2014 20:14

I don't think it's at all likely the baby was created for cynical reasons.

Lorelilee · 22/02/2014 20:42

In no way defending RB, but the PA had the choice whether or not to act on her Boss's orders - she chose to do so, knowing the actions were illegal - you can't blame RB for that. Oh and YES, I HAVE been in a similar position, not so high profile, but have refused to do things that I felt compromised my integrity.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/02/2014 21:56

Her hair is fantastic

Chipstick10 · 22/02/2014 22:23

I would kill for her hair

SeaSickSal · 22/02/2014 22:30

I'm not even showing compassion for Rebekah bleedin' Brooks, I'm showing compassion for her child.

I don't care if it's her or Charlie Brooker who is spared jail I just think it would be incredibly damaging for a child her age to loose both the people she has bonded with when she won't understand why they've gone.

She will think they've abandoned her. And it won't even be like an adoption because someone else will start looking after her and she will bond with them, then they will have to give her back when her parents get out.

In cases where a child is that age unless their really is a physical danger to life and limb I don't think all the babies primary carers should be put in jail. If that is a single mother it's the mother, but in this case it could be either parent who is allowed to remain with her.

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2014 22:45

I trust you two are creaming your panties over her hair in an ironic way.

I can't work out the joke because her hair is shit.

Not that it has anything to do with the trial.

eeetheygrowupsofast · 22/02/2014 23:02

SeaSick

You think someone that (allegedly Hmm) thought it fair game to hack into a missing 13 year old's phone and use the messages to make money for their newspaper wouldn't time a surrogacy to coincide with a trial that would not only leave their reputation in tatters but land them in gaol?

No matter if she'd wanted and tried for a child for years, she knew exactly what she was doing! Just because it wouldn't cross the minds of most people to do such a thing doesn't mean there aren't people who would absolutely do anything to save themselves.

Viviennemary · 22/02/2014 23:08

I couldn't find it in me to have an ounce of sympathy for her. She certainly wouldn't have any for anyone else. Nobody knows her reasons for the surrogacy but we can all have our opinions.

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2014 23:19

Charlie Brooker is a smug bastard

But God knows, he doesn't deserve this.

It's Charlie Brooks, FGS, and he and his wife are very dim bulbs indeed.

VivaLeBeaver · 22/02/2014 23:21

but not this one

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2014 23:28

Maybe even though he seems really dim, he could use that common name to confuse people and escape viviennemary.

Don't know what she would do though. It's an inconveniently unusual spelling.

limitedperiodonly · 22/02/2014 23:30

Sorry, I meant vivaLeBeaver

VivaLeBeaver · 22/02/2014 23:34
Grin

When it was announced that Charlie Brooks was going to be on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here the other year I did wonder how on earth he'd been given permission to go with the court case looming.

SauceForTheGander · 22/02/2014 23:38

Didn't Cameron and CB go to school together? Did Cameron fag for CB I wonder? Is there some Etonian pax dating back 30 years that's going to keep the fragrant Rebecca out of jail?

I might a romance novel about them all. It's like Enid Blyton meets Oliver Stone.

SauceForTheGander · 22/02/2014 23:39

I might write .... Sorry I've been on the Wine

Nancy66 · 23/02/2014 09:04

Rebekah's hair is horrible. It looks like someone knitted it for her. She not a natural redhead either.

RonaldMcDonald · 23/02/2014 09:07

I think her hair is fantastic but she oddly looks like ?Kate Middleton here

SauceForTheGander · 23/02/2014 09:53

Whaaaaatttt Nancy ? Shock

It's one shocking revelation after another with bloody RB

NaggingNellie · 23/02/2014 10:00

i actually feel very sorry for ross kemp, he's carved a good career for himself and his face is being pasted up there with hers.

As harsh as it is, in her case karma is catching up i have little sympathy.

ComposHat · 23/02/2014 10:05

Yes he weny up on my estimation when Brooks said something homophobic to s gay labour mp snd he responded with 'shut the fuck up you homophobic cow'

nativityplayer · 24/02/2014 09:47

Maybe now she has an tiny tiny inkling of all the pain and suffering her paper's stories caused other people.

I have no sympathy whatsoever; don't tell me she didn't know what was going on while she was editor. She will do whatever it takes, and trample over anyone to get her way!

tobiasfunke · 24/02/2014 10:03

So far last week I learnt that Rebekah Brooks had fertility problems. Boo.
Had a surrogate child by a cousin who her mother met when she went shopping in Warrington.Yeah.
Was sleeping with her married colleague. Boo.
But it wasn't an affair. Yeah
Had a terrible time in her job as evertone was a sexist nob. Boo.

None of which has anything to do with the matter in hand as far as I can see. If it was an attempt to paint her as a poor creature deserving of our sympathy I'm not sure it worked. But then again maybe they don't have that much to work with.

ComposHat · 24/02/2014 10:34

Yes she is a repellant person from all accounts, utterly undeserving of any sympathy, but this doesn't have any bearing on whether she is guilty/not guilty. Which we cannot make a proper judgement on til all the evidence is heard.

It is quite evident on here that a number of posters subscribe to the 'no smoke without fire' and 'they don't seem very nice, they must have done it' school of justice.

I hope they never end up on trial and end up in front of a jyry who decide they are guilty as they look shifty, smarmy or the jury don't like their job.

AngelaDaviesHair · 24/02/2014 12:46

I am not remotely deciding, assuming or hinting at her guilt or innocence of the charges against her in any of my posts. Merely saying that she has run her career without any obvious empathy to the people she exploited in news coverage, so seeking or expecting (frankly irrelevant) empathy for herself in the course of these proceedings is an affront.
