Rebekah Brooks Trial

I'm no fan of Rebekah Brooks but having watched the news reporting from court today I'm finding myself feeling incredibly sorry for her.

Apparently today she was questioned about her fertility issues. I mean what the hell does that have to do with phone hacking? According to the report I watched she was asked about her problems conceiving with Ross Kemp which prompted her to ask for a break in proceedings and she left the room in tears. Later she was questioned about the surrogacy that she and her current husband had gone through to get their daughter.

Seriously, how is that relevant/appropriate?! If she was a man I sincerely doubt she'd have been asked about such a private matter.

I've been following the trial very closely. It is the wrong verdict. Nancy I can't remember the figures, they were in Private Eye, but RB & co's legal team were earning about 100X more than the prosecution. That's justice in the age of legal aid cuts.

numptieseverywhere · 24/06/2014 12:55

exactly Denzel, but apparently the not guilty verdict is all down to her 'feminine wiles'
Lol.

squoosh · 24/06/2014 13:05

I would definitely question the abilities of a jury that can find Coulson guilty but not Brooks. It makes no sense whatsoever.

member · 24/06/2014 13:09

Bloody hell, I didn't see that one coming! Can't get my head around how the could find Coulson guilty but not her! Unbelievable!

Andrewofgg · 24/06/2014 13:09

I suppose her "feminine wiles" got the other acquitted defendants, male and female, off too?

Saganoren · 24/06/2014 13:16

one was her husband, the other her PA
I'd be very interested to see someone make the case for her innocence - please, go ahead

specialsubject · 24/06/2014 13:18

well, the jury are the ones who saw all the evidence.

she was after all only the boss of the place and therefore had no idea what was going on. Hmm.

I look forward to my next Private Eye.

Andrewofgg · 24/06/2014 13:20

Saganoren Kuttner and Hanna have been acquitted too.

Viviennemary · 24/06/2014 13:21

Another one who can't feel sorry for her. Ghastly creature.

Jux · 24/06/2014 15:07

One can only hope that karma will overtake her.

FreeSpirit89 · 24/06/2014 16:09

What happened to two wrongs don't make a right?

What she did was unacceptable but her fertility issues and sex life shouldn't be open for public discussion

MehsMum · 24/06/2014 16:21

Cannot believe she's got off. Dumbstruck.

Nancy66 · 24/06/2014 16:34

Freespirit - it was her own defence team that introduced the subject of her fertility issues, so I'd say that makes it fine for public discussion

scarletoconnor · 24/06/2014 16:48

I was so surprised to hear the woman who horse rides with the corrupt PM was found innocent :/

No sympathy for her at all, now she knows what its like to have the saddest time of her life made public domain

Saganoren · 24/06/2014 16:48

Freespirit As already explained on this thread, the subject was brought up by the DEFENCE, whom RB was employing. They made the jury feel sorry for her as well as some mnetters

Onesleeptillwembley · 24/06/2014 17:20

Mehsmum. That's exactly how dp described it - she's 'got off', not 'she was found innocent. Frankly I'm astounded. But I wasn't in the jury. I can't wait to hear how they came to that conclusion, though.

Saganoren · 24/06/2014 17:44

We'll neve hear as they can't tell - utterly baffling. Still waiting for her defenders on here to explain.

Chipstick10 · 24/06/2014 17:59

From the evidence I read and what was reported in the news, she seemed much closer to Tony Blair the our present PM

Nancy66 · 24/06/2014 18:14

Good read. essentially it's down to the skill of her legal team.

Onesleeptillwembley, glad to know it's not just me. Smile

Gives me SUCH faith in our criminal justice system.

ohmymimi · 24/06/2014 18:28

Well, I'm comforted (though not much) that at least she's had a taste of her own medicine.

Icimoi · 24/06/2014 21:00

Essentially she's succeeded on the basis of an argument that, despite being editor, she had no clue what was going on on her paper, and it never occurred to her even to wonder how her reporters were getting such intensely private information. So, basically a defence of utter incompetence. I hope that's the end of her glittering career in the media.

Jux · 25/06/2014 08:46

It will only end her career if we, the public, don't buy any paper she works on. That won't happen.

Mrsjayy · 25/06/2014 08:49

Jeremy clarkson was at her party last night how lovely for her maybe helping her to spend her reported huge pay off, the woman is like teflon Hmm

londonrach · 25/06/2014 08:50

I'm sorry I'm a bad person as I don't feel sorry for her. I think she got away with it. Friends in high places....
