Rebekah Brooks Trial

FrankelInFoal · 21/02/2014 20:27

I'm no fan of Rebekah Brooks but having watched the news reporting from court today I'm finding myself feeling incredibly sorry for her.

Apparently today she was questioned about her fertility issues. I mean what the hell does that have to do with phone hacking? According to the report I watched she was asked about her problems conceiving with Ross Kemp which prompted her to ask for a break in proceedings and she left the room in tears. Later she was questioned about the surrogacy that she and her current husband had gone through to get their daughter.

Seriously, how is that relevant/appropriate?! If she was a man I sincerely doubt she'd have been asked about such a private matter.

Yep. Friends in high places indeed! She deserves everything she gets.

There's a good cartoon in today's Graun

The Sun is crowing! Bunch of evil cunts.

ParsingFlatly · 25/06/2014 09:00

Oh give the woman credit, Nancy, she can deflect, manipulate and misdirect with the best of them, without any help from anyone.

Just watch her in the commons committees and Leveson.

GoblinLittleOwl · 25/06/2014 09:09

Very shocked by verdict; find it deeply disturbing; reinforces my fear that the most influential person in Britain today is Rupert Murdoch.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 09:17

I believe this was the wrong verdict, although I really disliked the glee with which the Brooks part of the case was reported and its underlying misogyny.

But hey, always good to know that if you have the money and influence you can get away with anything.

diaimchlo · 25/06/2014 09:38

Freespirit

What she did was unacceptable but her fertility issues and sex life shouldn't be open for public discussion

So it is acceptable for her to condone phone hacking, which she so obviously did any idiot can work that out, but it is acceptable for her to bring anyone's fertility issues and sex life, that will put pennies in the coffers, out in the open for public discussion?????? Ruining many lives.

Double standards come to mind. Angry

She obviously has many influential bedfellows to have got off with it tbh.

but should read and

Braincell gone on holiday Confused

Nancy66 · 25/06/2014 09:47

No way will this end her career....far from it.

ParsingFlatly · 25/06/2014 10:07

Indeed, it's not as though she has to look around for an employer, is it? One for whom her many talents - including the art of getting away with it - are just perfect.

Trooperslane · 25/06/2014 10:18

I actually think I hate her.

I cannot believe for a SECOND she is innocent.

She embodies everything I don't stand for and the fact that she was happy to let her defence use her fertility issues as fodder for sympathy does not shock me for a second.

I hate the Murdoch empire and the gossipy culture of those shit "look at xxx's cellulite" too.

My stomach actually took a leap when pp mentioned her treatment of the Browns. With a newish dd myself I can't imagine the pain she put them through.

And I can't fucking believe she's got away with it. Confused

ParsingFlatly · 25/06/2014 10:22

For clarity, I should add the "its" I've seen her get away with are legion - that's not specifically about the trial.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 10:39

I would think she has a very lucrative career waiting for her, possibly in the States? Working for Murdoch of course or for one of his friends. And there must be a book deal or two waiting.

squoosh · 25/06/2014 10:40

I think she'd need to be very careful with any memoirs she writes.

I think Andy Coulson will be able to write more honestly as he has nothing to lose.

PigletJohn · 25/06/2014 10:49

The best justice money can buy.

Saganoren · 25/06/2014 10:52

She's said she'll never write a memoir out of loyalty to Rupes

But yes, Andy Coulson's book will be a TOP read

Can't wait for the next Private Eye

ExcuseTypos · 25/06/2014 11:50

I cant see her working for anyone in the UK after this. Everyone knows she is either incompetent or knew what was going on.

Nancy66 · 25/06/2014 11:51

I can see her going to Australia to work in Murdoch empire. Bet she ditches that gormless husband as well

squoosh · 25/06/2014 11:51

She is NYC or Australia bound I'll warrant.

Perhaps Australia as it will offer more opportunities to her horrible horsey husband.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 11:53

I don't think she's incompetent. Murdoch is no fool and wouldn't stand by someone who is incompetent.

Pumpkinpositive · 25/06/2014 11:56

I really want to know what she uses to style her hair. Envy

Did that come out in court?

ExcuseTypos · 25/06/2014 12:02

I don't think she's incompetent either. She knew exactly what was going on.

Icimoi · 25/06/2014 12:10

PetiteRaleuse, I completely agree she isn't incompetent, but that was essentially the defence she put forward - that she didn't know what was going on at the paper she edits. So either she is incompetent or she did know. The jury has apparently found that she's stunningly incompetent and who are we to argue?

VivaLeBeaver · 25/06/2014 12:19

I agree she'll dump her dh. And I reckon she'll shack up with Jeremy Clarkson! That's my wild bet of the day.

squoosh · 25/06/2014 12:22

Seeing Jeremy Clarkson emerge from her party last night made me growl at the TV.

londonrach · 25/06/2014 12:28

Hasn't clarkson got a wife

VivaLeBeaver · 25/06/2014 12:29

Ha I didn't even know he'd gone to her party! See I'm onto him.

His wife dumped him last year.
