Enticed by Mo and seeing it was a good source if protein, my dh went and bought lots of Quorn.

Interested to know what replaced the meat, I googled it only to find warnings about how unwell people have become after eating it!

Do not fancy it much now but realistically has anyone fallen ill after eating Quorn other than trumping loads from the protein?

Cor a real mix of experiences here then. Guess I won't know until I eat it - or I may just stick to meat.

Strawberry. Thats very dangerous of your friend. I have a friend who would be on the toilet being very ill if she eat it. You can tell the difference as i have tried it. It doesnt taste of anything hence the need for seasoning. Her friends were just being polite. Could you get her to check food allergies before serving next time please. X

My dad swore off it after a bout of d&v years ago, said it didn't agree with him. He tried it again about 6 months back and was fine. He'd blamed it all this time and it was just a bug!

foslady · 08/02/2014 09:20

Violently sick. Didn't link it 1st time I ate it but then happened again. None of the alletgies others have mentioned.

4athomeand1cooking · 08/02/2014 09:23

From what I have read it is the Fungi that is used which Qas previously stated by Quorn as being close to mushrooms is actually closer to mould. In some people their bodies simply reject it and it results in extreme vomiting/ poos!

I read too much - I think I will scoff it down for lunch and see what happens. Dh bought a freezer full bless him!

The last time I had Quorn, I found myself a few hours later in my work suit vomiting violently in public on the footpath outside a Hilton. I was mortified as I rarely ever react poorly to food. Quorn is the work of the devil as far as I'm concerned.

midnightagents · 08/02/2014 09:59

I've eaten quorn all my life and never had a problem with it. If I were to eat meat though I would probably have all the reactions described here like nausea, vomiting and diarrea (have in the past). I think a lot of the time it's to do with what your body is used to digesting.

nicename · 08/02/2014 10:02

I like some of the Quorn products. It does have egg white in it, doesn't it?

As with all processed foods, check the label if you have any food sensitivities. I love their pies though.

HavantGuard · 08/02/2014 10:06

Yes. Horrible cramps. I had to keep a food diary to figure out what it was.

MojitoMadness · 08/02/2014 10:07

I love Quorn! Ate loads of it when I was a veggie years ago, and still it quite a bit of it now. Never had a reaction to it.

BornOfFrustration · 08/02/2014 10:09

Oh, I didn't know it had egg white in, that explains the stomach cramps I got when I ate it. Not touched it for years now.

PatsysPyjamas · 08/02/2014 10:09

Yes, I am violently sick too. I have never had that reaction to any other food. Strange.

maddening · 08/02/2014 10:21

I do not have any wheat intolerance but quorn triggers my ibs - awful cramps and disrupts my digestion

maddening · 08/02/2014 10:22

but I can eat cauldron sausages

bulby · 08/02/2014 10:26

Veggie family here. We can all eat all types except for the mince which gives dh the squits.

MissWimpyDimple · 08/02/2014 10:54

Yes. Instant vomiting and squirts. Apparently it was almost not passed as a foodstuff as something like 1:150,000 can't eat it. I read that in an article years ago, will look it up now.

Evil stuff! I'm not allergic or sensitive to anything else. Generally have stomach of steel. Does seem to be the mince that is specifically bad. A "chicken" burger I once had by mistake, didn't agree with me but it wasn't as violent!

HemlockStarglimmer · 08/02/2014 11:00

SIL can't eat it as she is gluten intolerant. FIL can't digest it. (Symptoms as described by others here).

We eat it regularly as we're vegetarian. My husband has IBS but it doesn't affect him at all.

Yes2014 · 08/02/2014 11:06

Only the sausages make me unwell- Linda McCartney ones taste better anyway!

aquashiv · 08/02/2014 11:10

Nope never been ill on quorn

DanceParty · 08/02/2014 11:46

Nope, never any problems at all (and we eat loads).

BarbarianMum · 08/02/2014 11:54

Stomach ache and vomiting here. But I have crohns now and quite a lot of quorn products have warning labels saying that some people may find them hard to digest.

musicmadness · 08/02/2014 12:30

Never been ill due to quorn, I'd assume the majority of people who try it don't or they wouldn't still be selling it! As long as you haven't got an allergy to any of the ingredients just try it and see what you think.

I think you will find people who have had a nasty reaction to pretty much every product in the supermarket tbh. My strange one is asda Leek and Potato soup (Just the asda one, homemade or any other brand is fine, and other asda soups are fine)!

acsec · 08/02/2014 12:33

It makes me very windy, but no ill effects.

acsec · 08/02/2014 12:34

Oops, meant to say.. and I'm allergic to penicillin

scantilymad · 08/02/2014 12:39

Veggie here and no effects other than DH slightly less fragrant than usual after the mince.

Stay away from the bacon strips though. Like flattened play doh.
