£300 a week for 7:30AM-5PM 5 times a week sometimes it may be a bit more. Then give her some money so she can treat herself. She will stay in our house and she get the chance to go to college/university. We will provide her with food, water a shower and internet. She will be treated like a member of the family and will be able to access the family car.

I've got a feeling someone's enjoying their friday evening with a glass of wine and a big stirry stick.

Unexpected · 07/02/2014 23:02

OP, are YOU British?

antimatter · 07/02/2014 23:02

OP thinks that she is doing her nanny a big favour by allowing he to use shower and having own bedroom.
Also that nanny will work for 5 days or more (I can assume that more won't be paid extra) for 60 pounds a day for 50 hours+.

Being treated as part of family often means that kids walk into nanny's room without knocking...

I would be surprised if that nanny lasts for more than 6 weeks.

GingerMaman · 07/02/2014 23:02

SpagBall, I'm curious as to whereabouts in the country you live where 'this is the norm'?

TaraKnowles · 07/02/2014 23:02

Op are you based in London?

Wantsunshine · 07/02/2014 23:03

Your last post said your friends DC loved this nanny. Therefore why are you paying for an Au Pair. This is an absolute wind up thread.

Bornin1984 · 07/02/2014 23:03

Your are addressing her as a
Nanny! But won't pay her nanny rates!!

Would be interesting to learn of your
Location so we have an idea of what the going rate is for a nanny with the "expectations and I say this loosely as the shits benefits" u offer!

ikeaismylocal · 07/02/2014 23:03

I don't think it's unreasonable, she won't have any outgoings so all the money she earns will be pocket money or savings.

I would say some nice extras like a phone with a certain about of minutes each month for international call and the gym membership you mentioned would be nice.

SpagBolgs · 07/02/2014 23:04

So could you tell me what should the standards be as you seem to criticize me for everything.

OP posts:
LifeIsForTheLiving · 07/02/2014 23:04

£350 a week...no mortgage/rent, bills or food to pay.

Free gym membership and hair cuts.

Free holidays abroad and meals out.

Free access to a car.

Performance based bonus's.

Weekends and evenings off.

It's hardly slave labour is it. Seriously, I wonder about the presence of people's fucking grips in this place sometimes.

Bornin1984 · 07/02/2014 23:04

First point..... Decent wage!

Chippednailvarnish · 07/02/2014 23:04

Does your boss base your salary on their perception of your outgoings ikea?

ComposHat · 07/02/2014 23:05

Sub minimum wage and ten hour shifts, but she'll 'be treated like one of the family? '

What family is that, the Fritzels?

Bogeyface · 07/02/2014 23:05

I agree Patricia

Except that sadly, there are some people in the UK right now that would read this and think "Sounds fine to me, in fact I think you are too generous" :(

Bornin1984 · 07/02/2014 23:06

Life. It was originally 200 a week for
50+ ours a week! A regular
Full time job with the nhs
37.6 hours a
Week gets u more than that!

Pigeonhouse · 07/02/2014 23:07

I'd love to think it was a wind-up, Want, but I recognise so much of this attitude from a particularly dreadful brand of Dubai employer - 'maids' paid half nothing, sometimes still sleeping in the children's room to do night wakings or even having a bedroll on the kitchen floor, not allowed at family meals ('they prefer it, their food is so different'), expected to feel grateful to be allowed to accompany the family on a trip in order to look after the children, given a paid flight home every two years.

The OP may not have lived there herself, but she certainly seems to be thinking of this woman's employment in those kinds of terms.

LifeIsForTheLiving · 07/02/2014 23:08

PLENTY of people do ten hour shifts.

Df works 8am - 6pm 5 days a week. It's a fairly 'normal' day for lots of people.

mrwilloughby · 07/02/2014 23:08

I have to say, I know an awful lot of people (SW London) who employ (non British) live in ladies on a 7-7, 5 day week + babysitting basis and the going rate appears to be about £350... Can't remember if that is net or gross, assume net..

They are 'nanny housekeepers' as opposed to nannies though.

To be clear, not saying I agree! Our British nanny cost almost £900 p w gross.

ikeaismylocal · 07/02/2014 23:08

Does your boss base your salary on their perception of your outgoings ikea?

No, but I choose my job bassed on my outgoings, if the nanny chooses to work for 300/200/400 pounds a week that isn't a problem in my opinion.

SpagBolgs · 07/02/2014 23:08

When she first came over to the UK she was as au pair and when she was in Eastern Europe around neighboring countries she would work as a au pair. I am not English but DH is and I live in the UK.

OP posts:
wyldchyld · 07/02/2014 23:09

Well, £10 ph at 50 hours per week is £500. This at least starts to take into account the fact she is responsible for five of your children. I would ensure this is net so she isn't then losing another chunk with tax and N.I. Plus a carefully agreed - not demanded - contract outlining exactly what her responsibilities and duties are and are not.

LifeIsForTheLiving · 07/02/2014 23:09

A regular
Full time job with the nhs
37.6 hours a
Week gets u more than that!

Uh...not one that pays your rent, food and utilities in addition to that!

Bogeyface · 07/02/2014 23:09

What is standard is

Private room with lockable door
Free access to car
Free mobile phone and minutes
Babysitting by arrangement and paid for on an hourly basis, seperate from salary
No evening or weekend working unless previously agreed (due to parents jobs for eg) and recompensed appropriately. Even warehouse jobs pay an unsociable hours premium
5.6 weeks paid holiday

Chippednailvarnish · 07/02/2014 23:10

Exploiting people is everybody's problem.

impty · 07/02/2014 23:10

Oh my! No words. But seriously, you can't care very much for your children if you are willing to pay so little for their care.
