to think MNers can be better than this

OPs may be ignorant, they maybe obtuse, they may be in the wrong and they may be trolls...

but how can dozens upon dozens of swearing riddled instructions to carry out intimate acts be considered a reasonable response?

For some people MN is the first forum they frequent. It is perfectly possible to post something that is innocently ignorant yet massively outrageous to MNers. Then suddenly you are being called all the names under the sun and told to fuck yourself preferably until dead? really?

Believe me it can be a massive shock that people say things on the internet they would never say in real life. It is possible to feel very very frightened and threatened by such an onslaught.

AIBU to think if the last 5 posters have covered the 'fuck off to the far side of fuck' angle then maybe you don't need to stick the boot in too?

The best case scenario is that the person on the other end is indeed a troll....in which case why are you giving them what they want?

I think MN has been going a lot longer than you OP. If the owners of MN and the many users that actually LIKE MN are happy with the way we conduct ourselves, then who are you to tell us that we should change?

So a Troll got abused, big wuup. MN has been the subject of a number of Digital Spy threads this week, so expect more trolls and expect more bad language, abuse and pearl clutching.

If you don't like MN and the way that MNers conduct themselves then may I, gently, suggest that there are a lot of other websites that do not allow bad language to be posted and you may find yourself happier on one of them. If you do like MN and MNers in general then you might find it easier to hide threads you find offensive and enjoy other parts of the site.

Goldenbear · 05/02/2014 18:45

Chipping, it would be quite a dull forum if everyone did as you asked???

TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:46

'oh I say Mr troll, would you mind awfully not posting on MN'

Would that be ok?

Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 18:46

Shufty because when you call people out on it. They just tell you to fuck off.

CatAmongThePigeons · 05/02/2014 18:47

If you can only post one post on a thread, what would you see happen with cross posts?

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 05/02/2014 18:48

LtEve just because the OP doesn't like this aspect of MN doesn't mean that she doesn't like or appreciate it generally. You disagree with her on this point, the logical conclusion is not to tell her to leave the site.

Goldenbear · 05/02/2014 18:48

I have been on here since 2006 but agree with the OP and don't genuinely understand why we have like ALL Mumsnetters to keep posting on here?

Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 18:48

Yes trampled that's much better. unclutches pearls Grin.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 05/02/2014 18:52

Evening all,
Technically this is a thread about a thread, and we've had quite a few reports about it, but it's an interesting discussion so we're leaving it for the moment while keeping an eye out.
FWIW the MN troll-hunting policy should be crystal clear by now: if you suspect a troll, don't abuse them (for it makes their hairy toes cuuuurl with delight), instead thwart them by ignoring and reporting and we'll investigate. And if your collective spider senses are correct as per today, we will delete and Deal With Them.

LtEveDallas · 05/02/2014 18:53

I didn't tell her leave the site. Please re-read my post.

No-one has to like everyone on the MN. There are many posters whom I don't like, but generally they are the ones that complain, whine and moan about MN whilst continuing to be a member and gaining all the benefits that membership brings. I don't understand the mentality Confused and find it rather graceless.

DavidHarewoodsFloozy · 05/02/2014 18:53

So OP, you had a hard time here once?

Are you projecting, perhaps you're over invested. We all need to remember, its just words on a screen.

KungFuBustle · 05/02/2014 18:54

'No right of reply'?!

Grin
Goldenbear · 05/02/2014 18:57

What 'benefits' are they then- you make it sound like the Freemasons?

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 05/02/2014 18:57

link to trollhunting policy FYI, y'all.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/02/2014 18:58

What is a Digital Spy thread?

Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 18:58

Thanks YetanotherHelen. I think that's what Ice is trying to say.

ComfortablyGrumpy · 05/02/2014 19:00

I have absolutely no sympathy for trolls.

I find the fact you are essentially defending them ridiculous.

And I resent being instructed on how I should use this site by you.

HTH.

coppertop · 05/02/2014 19:01

Not every post on the nappy thread was an attack on the OP.

I posted a link to the ERIC website.

No idea what happened after that though.

LatinForTelly · 05/02/2014 19:02

I agree with you IceBeing

Goldenbear · 05/02/2014 19:02

'Are you projecting?' Didn't think it would be long until the pseudo psychologists came out of the woodwork. I think this is the number one irritating occurrence at the moment!

Hullygully · 05/02/2014 19:03

YES WE HAVE NO BANANASSSSSSSSSSSS

Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 19:04

oh enough with the projection suggestion already. It isn't just words on a screen though is it? I remember reading a thread ages ago. I can't remember what it actually was now but I remember one Poster commenting that she could still remember x over a snarky comment someone had made to them years ago at a really horrific time in their life. Sometimes I've looked at threads and seen where MN gets it's nest of Vipers reputation from. Then I see others where everyone bandys together to support the OP or ends up in a jolly good laugh.

Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 19:06

Its pissing annoying isn't it GoldenBear? Always shake my head when I see that comment made to a Poster.
