to think MNers can be better than this

OPs may be ignorant, they maybe obtuse, they may be in the wrong and they may be trolls...

but how can dozens upon dozens of swearing riddled instructions to carry out intimate acts be considered a reasonable response?

For some people MN is the first forum they frequent. It is perfectly possible to post something that is innocently ignorant yet massively outrageous to MNers. Then suddenly you are being called all the names under the sun and told to fuck yourself preferably until dead? really?

Believe me it can be a massive shock that people say things on the internet they would never say in real life. It is possible to feel very very frightened and threatened by such an onslaught.

AIBU to think if the last 5 posters have covered the 'fuck off to the far side of fuck' angle then maybe you don't need to stick the boot in too?

The best case scenario is that the person on the other end is indeed a troll....in which case why are you giving them what they want?

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 05/02/2014 18:16

I don't believe it was an innocent question.
No one is that stupid that they can't imagine why some teenagers need nappies. The ones who threw the insults were mostly the ones with disabled family members, they have enough to contend with without having to be polite to a perv.
It was also a poster who signed on today and didn't come back to either defend themselves or apologise.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:16

trampled do you get that sometimes people are genuine and still get smashed to bits?

do you get that personal attacks are NOT allowed?

do you get that troll hunting is NOT allowed?

OP posts:
Misspixietrix · 05/02/2014 18:17

Precisely KingRollo which is exactly what I thought when I decided not to click.

TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:17

Do you get how offensive that thread was?

TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:18

Do you get that trolling is not allowed?

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:19

okay well this problem is bigger than I thought if every thinks the behaviour on that thread was fine because it was a troll.

IT wasn't. You didn't KNOW it was a troll when the comments were made.

Personal attacks (especially on mass) are against the rules of this forum. Even when you are in a bad mood and have a lot to cope with.

If you can't cope with a thread, don't open it. Don't reply to it. Don't come on MN. there are many many choices that are far better than telling some potentially innocently ignorant person to fuck off and die when the previous 50 people have already done so.

OP posts:
TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 05/02/2014 18:19

It was offensive Trampled but you can't guarantee it was a troll. Sometimes people are ignorant, I have learnt a lot from MN about people whose backgrounds are different to mine and why their priorities are different. I wouldn't have learnt it if people had jumped on me and told me to fuck off.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:20

tbh I would rather share MN with the troll than with you.

They broke the rules once....you are still doing it.

OP posts:
TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:21

Then the OP must have been extremely thick if she/he couldn't figure out why a teenager might wear nappies.

meditrina · 05/02/2014 18:21

There are threads every few weeks telling off all and sundry.

They are often deleted (on the grounds the the OP is not all she seems). Not quite as famous as the poo troll, but the goady "you're all horrible" poster is getting well known too.

It's better to deal with issues on the thread itself rather than just start whining about unspecified posts and posters.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:21

My last message was to trampled in case it wasn't obvious.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 05/02/2014 18:21

I think it is correct that hq took the thread down. I have no other comment. This is a thread about a thread though, so also likely to disappear

Getting angry and arguing is about as useful to you as the to the people on the other thread

Clue: it's not useful at all

LadyBeagleEyes · 05/02/2014 18:22

Trolling is also against the rules of this forum.
I feel more sorry for the posters that tried to explain their disabled child's incontinence to a troll getting their kicks out of it.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:22

trampled so it's okay to abuse someone for being stupid is it?

OP posts:
TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:22

I'm laughing my head off at the troll defending.

Only on bloody MN.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:23

anyfucker well if even one person thinks twice before shoving the boot in on a potentially innocent OP then it isn't a waste of my time.....

OP posts:
roadwalker · 05/02/2014 18:23

agree OP
I have been on the receiving end of abuse by the usual brigade. It really upset me and has stopped me using mumsnet for any real issues

TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:23

Oh I love a naive poster on MN.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:24

That thread could have used one reply.

eg. You probably didn't consider that many disabilities and illnesses can cause incontinence into adulthood. hth.

What the hell was the point of the other 100 odd posts?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 05/02/2014 18:25

Not gonna happen, op, not gonna happen...

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 05/02/2014 18:26

None of you can guarantee it was a troll, therefore the abuse was troll-hunting. If you suspect someone is a troll then a) don't feed so the thread can drop into obscurity b) report to MN

NotAnotherPackedLunchBox · 05/02/2014 18:26

The OP of that thread wasn't just ignorant. It was the 'Oi-look-over-here-at-the-big-kids-that-need-nappies' gloating and sneering tone that marked them out as a goady fucker disablist tosser.
They really don't deserve any politeness or consideration.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:28

road yes one of the first few times on here I made a thread about something that had really just happened to me and I was still a little angry about...I got the tone wrong and because it was about FF/BF I then got hundreds of posts along the lines of the ones today.

I felt scared and shaky for the whole day.

People don't apparently give a shit that people other than trolls can provoke this kind of response. Or that even trolls are actually people. MNHQ deal with trolls NOT other posters.

It really isn't that hard to understand.

OP posts:
CatAmongThePigeons · 05/02/2014 18:28

The thread did have that one comment posted. What's the point in most comments on MN?

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 05/02/2014 18:28

That thread could have used one reply.

eg. You probably didn't consider that many disabilities and illnesses can cause incontinence into adulthood. hth.

^^ This. Then the thread drops out of active convos and disappears and everyone is a lot happier.
