Can I put the company name here?

bearleftmonkeyright · 03/02/2014 20:40

Well its bonkers. Some people think hard work is setting up some tables and putting them away again and a girl couldnt do it never mind a mildly overweight middle aged woman

Confuddledmuchly · 03/02/2014 20:41

Well I'll say anyway, it's tabletots, baby fair and nearly new sale company.

There's a summary of what is allowed here: recruiter.totaljobs.com/Recruitment/Contents/Contents/Help/Discriminationlaw.html

Strength is not a permitted reason to discriminate by age or gender.

GossamerHailfilter · 03/02/2014 20:41

Maybe they will be lifting the tables with their penises.

Princessdeb · 03/02/2014 20:42

The sex discrimination act 1975 sets out the circumstances when a job can be specified as exempt which includes as Just has said when intimate care may need to be delivered in specific circumstances. But it specifically prohibits discrimination against women on the basis of strength or stamina. So yes this ad certainly breaks the law. If you want to you could report this to the Equality and Human Rights Commission. They have a list of local contacts on their website.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 03/02/2014 20:48

Maybe theyre lifting stuff with their penis?

At age 18 i was weight lifting and could easily outlift my dad at that time. A skinny 15 year old boy would have been a mid morning snack for me then.

Bullshit ad and even worse that they mention mums applying for sons. So dads can apply then?

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 03/02/2014 20:49

Xpost with gossamer! Grin

Pumpkinnose · 03/02/2014 20:52

No it is not legal - almost certainly unlawful under the Equality Act 2010 on both sex and age discrimination grounds. The Sex Discrimination Act referred to my a poster above has been repealed by the Equality Act.

MeepMeepVrooooom · 03/02/2014 20:56

Quite frankly short of being an advertisement for a penis model, sperm donor I cannot understand why in this day in age we still have with men need only apply attitude.

I do know there are other roles than the above but I would hope they would be worded better. It's been a week for it.

DoJo · 03/02/2014 21:10

Unless it's for a job down the mines, in which case it is perfectly legal!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/02/2014 21:13

I think we should ALL apply and clog up their email!

WindyMillerCandlewickGreen · 03/02/2014 21:23

MeepMeep it's not an ad to work at my company honest Wink

Confuddledmuchly · 03/02/2014 21:29

They have removed it now, I have a print screen saved of the ad and I have emailed the equality advisory support service about it.

You can all apply (for your sons of course Grin ) to 'Andy at [email protected]'

Staying true to your NN Confuddledmuchly

Now for my email... Hmmmm this could be fun.

Confuddledmuchly · 03/02/2014 21:35

Okay, now they are saying that the reason is because of this -

its our insurance and it only covers males 80 x 15kg tables

Really? Shall I call bullshit or could this be true?

OP posts:
harriet247 · 03/02/2014 21:36

Is it just me or am I reading is as an ad for ummm a young gay prostitute?

Confuddledmuchly · 03/02/2014 21:37

Mind like a bucket harriet!

OP posts:
specialsubject · 03/02/2014 21:37

to discriminate on lifting is not allowed. No insurance policy would say that. Just needs suitable loads and correct technique.

'no mums for sons' - I've seen the non-sexist equivalent of this before, as parens do send in applications. Immediate bin-fodder!

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/02/2014 21:41

Does anybody know a 40 year old female power lifter?

As I could really do with one.

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/02/2014 21:41

Or one of any age
