About DH's attitude towards the meal I cooked?

I used the leftover beef and made beef noodle soup. It was delicious - full of ginger, garlic, chilli, soy, stock, vegetables, coriander, masses of noodles and lots and lots of lovely leftover roast beef. A massive panful, enough to feed at least 6, just for me and DH (DC don't eat chillies) with plenty left to freeze for another day.

DH complained that he didn't want 'soup' for his evening meal. I pointed out that exactly the same components on a plate with less water would have been a stir fry. He said that you get less in a bowl. I offered to get him another bowl. He said (with disgust) that he didn't want two bowls of soup for his tea.

I spent ages making that soup and it was bloody delicious, and healthy too.

Just had to have a moan about it here.

Angry

And ask you: Am I being unreasonable to serve up soup for an evening meal?

What a moronic attitude.

TheOneAndOnlyAlpha · 03/02/2014 19:47

Get him to cook and then tell him you don't feel like that for tea. Poor you. I, however, will be over ASAP. Sounds totally delish.

Trills · 03/02/2014 19:47

Is he this closed-minded in other aspects of life?

AmIHumanYet · 03/02/2014 19:48

FFS that is absolutely ridiculous and ungrateful of him! He has acted like a spoilt child

picnicbasketcase · 03/02/2014 19:48

Tell him to eat a load of bread with it if it's not filling enough

Catsmamma · 03/02/2014 19:49

what a KNOB!

we often have soup for our evening meal....lots of bread to go with. Never any complaints here.

CMOTDibbler · 03/02/2014 19:51

He's being arsey about it. My ds often has noodle soup for dinner as he loves it - and its just as you say a wet sir fry rather than lots of liquid with a few token noodles

Fairylea · 03/02/2014 19:51

He's horrid to be so rude about it as you made it and he should be grateful.

However personally I'd hate soup for an evening meal..seems more a lunch thing to me. Sorry!

Joysmum · 03/02/2014 19:51

I wouldn't want soup for dinner either it's either a lunch or a starter, not dinner.

Laquitar · 03/02/2014 19:51

I ' m not a soup person but i love beef and noodles spicy soup.

But i must say that if im hungry after work it doesn't fill me (blush).
He could have a sandwitch too though, no need for soup drama.

Catsmamma · 03/02/2014 19:51

having said about the bread to go with, I'd say that noodles can be very filling...I think he is just being obnoxious.

it's not like you opened a small tin of Heinz and doled it out.

Tell him his meat and two veg meal are on the table in the 1950's with his mother

Yamyoid · 03/02/2014 19:51

Shock YANBU

AmIHumanYet · 03/02/2014 19:53

If it was referred to as a stew or casserole would you have a problem with it for dinner? Confused

headoverheels · 03/02/2014 19:53

YANBU. Sounds delicious and soup is a perfectly good dinner.

WaffilyVersatile · 03/02/2014 19:53

while I would agree that soup is not the most substantial of meals, that was pretty rude of him. If hes hungry then there is plenty of soggy stir fry from what you said so whats the problem?!

zeezeek · 03/02/2014 19:55

OMG can you send the rest of it over to me please!!! It sounds delicious and the perfect way of using leftovers.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 03/02/2014 19:55

I can't believe you stand for that !

Are you his servant?

Tallforadwarf · 03/02/2014 19:55

I've never had a beef noodle soup, it's sounds well nice.

fedupfedup · 03/02/2014 19:56

Yanbu soups a great meal

parakeet · 03/02/2014 19:58

I wouldn't find a bowl of normal soup very satisfying for my evening meal, no. But a hearty noodle soup as you have described sounds delicious, and I often have similar in Wagamama's (and consider it a splendid treat).

But more importantly, he was very rude. Please don't make him anything for dinner tomorrow night. When he asks, just explain your feelings are still hurt from tonight.

Clayhead · 03/02/2014 19:59

We had soup for tea tonight!

I never knew it wasn't a suitable meal - the things you learn from Mumsnet.

Obviously I will provide proper food in the future Wink

mrsminiverscharlady · 03/02/2014 19:59

We have soup for tea often, what you describe sounds very substantial.

OTOH I am always starving when I get in from work and combined with tiredness I may possibly have been known to make a similar fuss if it was something that I didn't feel would fill me up, so I do have a bit of sympathy with your dh. I once cried because dh had made stuffed courgettes for dinner Blush

JenBehavingBadly · 03/02/2014 20:00

Three words. "You cook then".

HellonHeels · 03/02/2014 20:03

He's rude and being quite stupid.

What does he cook for dinner?
