About DH's attitude towards the meal I cooked?

I used the leftover beef and made beef noodle soup. It was delicious - full of ginger, garlic, chilli, soy, stock, vegetables, coriander, masses of noodles and lots and lots of lovely leftover roast beef. A massive panful, enough to feed at least 6, just for me and DH (DC don't eat chillies) with plenty left to freeze for another day.

DH complained that he didn't want 'soup' for his evening meal. I pointed out that exactly the same components on a plate with less water would have been a stir fry. He said that you get less in a bowl. I offered to get him another bowl. He said (with disgust) that he didn't want two bowls of soup for his tea.

I spent ages making that soup and it was bloody delicious, and healthy too.

Just had to have a moan about it here.

Angry

And ask you: Am I being unreasonable to serve up soup for an evening meal?

I did...I'm on Weightwatchers...6 points out of a daily 26...

CurlyhairedAssassin · 06/02/2014 21:50

Well that's my point. It's fine if you want to lose weight.
Someone who needs to just maintain their weight would find it not very filling without bread.

Anyway, this is going away from the original post....

Caboodle · 06/02/2014 22:27

Yes it is. DH was rude. And a food snob. (I may have mentioned this before...)

curlew · 06/02/2014 22:38

He was definitely rude. But surely a food snob would really go for a ramen?

thinking101 · 06/02/2014 23:25

oh did well there

Caboodle · 07/02/2014 12:20

Ahhh...but the point is OP's DH just acted as if it was soup....hence food snob. Maybe if he realised how lovely ramen is (and how utterly middle class it is in the UK) he would appreciate it?

ComposHat · 07/02/2014 13:04

Nope soup is not filling enough for an evening meal .
Lunch with bread or a sandwich yes, as a starter for tea, yes. But as a main meal far too insubstantial.

HazleNutt · 07/02/2014 13:40

ah we're back there. Noodles, vegetables and beef - filling. Add some water - no longer filling.

ComposHat · 07/02/2014 13:42

Yes Hazel correct.

Because the content of the dish will be mostly liquid the actual amount of beef, noodles, vegetables, noodles will be smaller. You don't start with a proper evening size meal and add liquid.

HazleNutt · 07/02/2014 13:54

I certainly do. True, the liquid that I add to my dinner is usually Wine, but still..

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/02/2014 13:58

:o hazel

We are having Thai chicken noodle soup and rolls for tea.

Anyone who thinks it won't be filling enough I challenge you to finish a bowl Wink

ComposHat · 07/02/2014 14:02

If I ate meat I would take you up on that.

Gileswithachainsaw · 07/02/2014 14:06

It's on im making a vege version too Wink

ComposHat · 07/02/2014 14:08

Great I shall send a self addressed jiffy bag your way. Poor the liquid in and send it back.

frugalfuzzpig · 07/02/2014 14:48

Damn you're all making me hungry.

I need to try making proper ramen. I'll do it when DSD is staying, she wants to try them as the characters eat tons of it on her favourite anime (Naruto) :o

DontGiveAwayTheHomeworld · 07/02/2014 17:53

DH eats like a horse, and he's never once said that ramen isn't filling Confused

I do the majority of the cooking (SAHM) and the general rule is if you don't like it, you can cook for yourself. I don't consult him on it either, but then he'll eat pretty much anything. I think he's just grateful to come home to a hot dinner!

OP, YANBU. Enjoy your soup!
