I'm taking DH to lunch in a bit to celebrate my 3rd fag free week Smile
I wish I'd discoverer vaping years ago . I'm still amazed that I don't want a cigarette. Just can't believe it is this easy after my 30 a day habit.

I started smoking aged 16 so I've been a smoker for 29 years (excluding two pregnancies).

Ledare · 22/02/2014 11:47

Well done Katie! Hope you have a lovely lunch Smile

KatieScarlett2833 · 22/02/2014 11:49

Congratulations yourself Grin

Can't believe I stopped and started smoking out of curiosity, sounds so lame but is true.

Ledare · 22/02/2014 11:54

I wish I knew more smokers in RL I could evangelise to!

There's only my sister who can stop whenever she likes with so problem at all so I wonder why she bothers to do it Confused

I've always said that if I could go a day without wanting a cigarette I could do it for life. My first quit attempt was twenty four years ago and I have tried everything since. I don't count pregnancy because of the mind-set. I was gagging for one Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 22/02/2014 11:57

The second I stopped BF I ran to the shops to buy cigs...Hmm
I never for one moment intended to quit for good.

Cantabile · 22/02/2014 12:00

Well done Fluz!

So our own PowersThatBe are still intent upon restricting this?

Ledare · 22/02/2014 12:04

I started out of curiosity as well. Something to do at bus stops and because I'd miss out on the conversation outside with my smoking mates. Not one of them is still smoking now. They have all quit. I was the only one left Blush

Have the Nest of Vapers gone underground? Shock

LucyLasticBand · 22/02/2014 19:18

that's good ledare.
there are only a handful of us at hte smoking area at work, am still a novelty, and some people say say, Oh I've got an ecig but it leaked or i tried it but am back to smokign now, and most of them want to justify their smoking habits.

Allergictoironing · 22/02/2014 19:22

Gone into temporary hibernation brought on by sulking in my case; keep looking at my stinky yellowed curtains wanting to wash them but they will take days to dry at this time of year so waiting for better weather, but that is making me sulk a bit.

I'm still finding the odd occasion when I feel like reaching for a cigarette, but when I think about it I realise that's just conditioning & what I really want is a nice tasty vape.

I actually had a weird dream last night involving smoking. I was on holiday somewhere tropical in the hotel bar (think palm trees & cocktails on cane/glass tables) and I opened a new packet of cigs & lit one. Someone immediately said to me "but I thought you didn't smoke any more" and I was so disgusted with myself that I crumbled the fag up then took all the others out of the packet and shredded them one by one. However the act of lighting the cigarette didn't taste of anything at all, not even the effect of drawing anything into my lungs. A VERY weird dream indeed!

Ledare · 22/02/2014 19:47

I had a dream where I lit one up automatically as you do and woke up thinking, "oh thank fuck I didn't really"

Lucy I hated the cigalikes / carts (expensive / no throat hit) and in the beginning of vaping had so many problems that I couldn't have done it without the advice on these threads.

I think the trick is to embrace the fiddling Grin No you won't be able to just knock one out of the packet and smoke without realising you are doing so.

Smokers are advised to take up a new hobby and have something else to do with their hands. Washing and dry-burning clearos, steeping new flavours in my meth lab airing cupboard, buying new kit online all fulfil this need.

I've just had DD doing Quality Control on my cotton buds to see if they are small enough to fit down the inner tube of my clearo. She was extremely bored after fifteen minutes and I asked her to consider that if no decent exam results are forthcoming that she might have to do that sort of thing for eight hours a day at sixteen Grin

Allergictoironing · 22/02/2014 20:07

Lucy try talking about some nice pressy you've recently bought yourself, or the holiday you're planning next year, funded by the money you saved by vaping rather than smoking Wink. As Ledare says, cigalikes are nowhere near as good an experience as decent kit can be and though they helped me cut down a bit in the start I would never have managed to give up completely using those.

I have a new hobby this week - watching the changing statuses of my Fasttech order Grin. Just today one item has gone from due in to Fasttech on 22/02, to due in at Fasttech on 25/02, to "ready to ship" (on 22/02). So that's 3/4 of the order just waiting on the final (rainbow) battery marked as "restocking" with no due date as yet.

Ledare thank goodness I'm not the only one! I agonised most of today whether to post about my dream, thinking everyone else would be WTF???

magimedi · 22/02/2014 20:13

Since I stopped smoking (18 months ago, nearly- YAY!!) I only had one time when I really wanted a cig.

We were in Turkey, where we go every year & the vast majority of Turks smoke. I had my e cig with me & had been fine for 9 months & was sitting in a bar, by the waterfront, and I could have killed for a cigarette. I didn't & the craving went in about 20 mins. But it was odd & a very strong urge to smoke again.

I suspect that one associates being able to smoke more freely outside of UK.

I will be v interested to see if I see any vapers when I go back to Turkey (can't wait) later this year.

Allergic Grin at your new hobby. I might start watching my FastTech order.

Dreaming of things we no longer do isn't uncommon at all.

magi I am still in awe of your eighteen months!

magimedi · 22/02/2014 20:27

Ledare - it won't be long before you are also there.

It's just amazing - I can now swim 40 lengths with no problems. When I was smoking I was collapsing after 15!

Allergictoironing · 22/02/2014 21:39

I'm just amazed that I've been close on 2 weeks without a cig, longest I've been since I first started aged about 13/14. Even when I was in hospital with a badly smashed up leg I was pushing myself outside in a wheelchair as soon as I could take the pain it caused getting out of bed - it hurt enough so I was nearly throwing up with pain but that wasn't going to stop me getting my fag in and that was over 30 years ago.

Every single day feels like a triumph to me, I don't know if I can imagine being free for 18 months like you Magi, you're a massive inspiration to me Thanks.

nbee84 · 22/02/2014 21:44

I've just realised it's a year today since I last smoked a cigarette - goes to show how little I think about smoking!

I smoked for nearly 30 years - between 10 and 20 a day. I loved smoking and didn't really want to give up, but at the back of every smokers mind is the thought "it's gonna get me one day" and given that there are less and less smokers these days I hated smelling like an ashtray and it was costing a fortune. I had one fairly successful attempt (about 15 years ago) using patches and gave up for 18 months but I thought about cigarettes all the time and even had a period of (mild) depression which I'm sure was down to not smoking. I also gained weight and got constipated Blush

I decided to try an ecig after a friend was successful with a cig-a-like - this also coincided with a drop in income and a need to be more frugal. I bought one in Tesco and knew straight away that it just wouldn't 'do it' for me. When I'd been looking online for where to buy it (they weren't so available just a year ago) I'd come across a couple of vaping forums, so did a bit of research, and as they all dissed cigalikes and raved about their set ups, I decided to take the plunge and invest the £30 needed for a basic set up - now you can get yourself set up for less than a tenner. My intention was to vape and gradually cut out the cigarettes and I wasn't to worried if I didn't cut them out completely. I would've been happy to get down to 2 or 3 a day.

I loved vaping from my first go Grin and I still have a packet of 17 B&H in the cupboard that I'd opened the morning my ecig arrived in the post. And I haven't smoked OR been tempted to smoke 1 of them! I had a single puff of one of my Mum's cigarettes about 3 weeks in -just out of curiosity, and it was like tipping an ashtray into my mouth. It was disgusting and turned my stomach - I can't believe I ever smoked them Shock

I've progressed to a vv and vw battery (itaste mpv) and I mix some of my own juices. I never think about cigarettes, in fact you couldn't pay me to smoke one now. I don't smell like an ashtray. I have more money in my pocket. I'm not constipated Grin and I've lost nearly 3 stone with SW and have been at target weight since the end of November.

One very happy vaper here Grin Grin Grin

Ledare · 22/02/2014 21:47

Thank you so much for that post. Congratulations!

MaggieMcGill · 23/02/2014 14:29

Woo Hoo Nbee! I hope you celebrated? Thanks That's quite an achievement. Xx

WeGotAnnie · 23/02/2014 14:31

Hello vapers.

After a few tips. Gave up smoking on Jan 1st (yay me). Was using E-Lites ecigs for 5 weeks, just switched to a VIP vaping thingie (not up on lingo yet) with juice, which seems to work out better (longer battery life, cheaper). But really like a tobacco flavour and not feeling the slightly fruity/shisha flavour of their tibacco flavours.

Any advice? Tia

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/02/2014 14:32

There are so many lovely inspiring posts on the last couple of pages. Well done all of you! Flowers

On dreams - this is the first time ever that I've packed in smoking and haven't had smoking dreams, I used to get them all the time and feel really disappointed when I woke up that I'd given up and couldn't have one. No smoking dreams at all this time round, although I did have a rather anxious dream that I was charging a battery at some big official function and it discharged and caused a big emergency.

EU legislation - There's a bit right at the top of article 18 of the TPD which says the legislation only applies to ecigs which are not medically licenced. Member states are still free to impose medical regulations if they want to. Full text of article 18 on clive bates blog here.

The TPD is up for the vote this coming wednesday (might be thursday) and current campaigning is focussed around trying to get a separate vote on article 18 - i.e. take ecigs out of the tpd and draft separate legislation that isn't such a dog's dinner. There's a blog post here with a link to relevant emails, if anyone fancies making their views heard.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/02/2014 14:38

Hi WeGotAnnie, well done! Flowers

Tobacco flavours are tricky, none IMO taste much like tobacco. I use hangsen ry4 and ry6 a lot. You can get them here quite cheaply and fast delivery. You might want to try a few of the RY range.

I think it's magimedi who vapes 'the sherlock' which is another tobacco flavour. Not sure who makes that but she'll probably be along soon to let you know Grin

Allergictoironing · 23/02/2014 14:46

Well done Nbee and Annie Smile.

Annie I use the Red tobacco from Smartcigs. It doesn't quite taste like a cigarette but more like the smell of fresh (unburned) tobacco when you open a packet of high quality rolling tobacco or mild cigars iyswim?
