You 'Haven't fucking stolen it' yet!

HaroldLloyd · 31/01/2014 19:32

You took it to stop someone stealing it, that's a bit funny.

milk · 31/01/2014 19:33
  1. Knock on their door and give it back. If they are not in then try again at least 10 times.
  1. If you 100% cannot get hold of them, send the package back so they can at least get a refund!!!
HaroldLloyd · 31/01/2014 19:33

I stole it your honour but only insane someone else stole it first.

Not sure that's a good line of defence.

HaroldLloyd · 31/01/2014 19:34

I typed in case, not insane.

clarinsgirl · 31/01/2014 19:35

Its 'through'. You put the note through their door. If you keep their parcel its theft. You had no business taking it in the first place. If it was left in a communal area and you were concerned about it being stolen you should have picked it up and put it outside their door. YABU.

scottishmummy · 31/01/2014 19:36

Can you keep it?of course you can.if you're happy thieving that is

Yamyoid · 31/01/2014 19:37

Doesn't it have the senders' address? If it does, take it to the post office to return to sender.

You could put another, bigger note through the letter box.

TheWitTank · 31/01/2014 19:37

What do you do with it? Seriously? Fucking hell, it's hardly complicated. Knock. Give it back. No answer, leave it under their doormat where you took it from.

is it cheese cake?

do you also have a best friend who is male

is your name racheal??

hootloop · 31/01/2014 19:38

I love the bizarre 'I stole it to stop people stealing it' logic.

If you know the neighbours well enough to take something in at their request,I would like to think you would knock, give it to them and explain.

If not put it back where it was and leave it.

But you can't just decide to take someone else's property - that is the very definition of stealing

FourAndDone · 31/01/2014 19:39

Oh poor op, you didn't put (lighthearted) in the title, so everybody will now continue to flame you after numerous explanations.

For what it's worth, I held a neighbors parcel for months!
Then they moved.
Iv got some lovely new kitchen scales!!Smile

TortillasAndChocolate · 31/01/2014 19:39

Come on people, it is really hard when you don't want to steal things but you get put in a position where you have no choice, you just have to steal parcels from your neighbours. We've all been there.

FourAndDone · 31/01/2014 19:39

Neighbours*

CoffeeTea103 · 31/01/2014 19:39

Yes you have taken something that doesn't belong to you, if that's not theft then what.
Why haven't you gone round to hand it to them since you made the effort to take it from their doorstep. Hmm

expatinscotland · 31/01/2014 19:40

I'd knock and if they don't answer, sellotape a note to the door saying you have it and will leave it outside their door in a day or two if they don't claim it. Then leave the package outside their door.

Ihavemyownname · 31/01/2014 19:40

I live in flats and anything left outside doors here will grow legs and walk off.
I woukd leave another note and put in in the letter bix and keep trying

LRDtheFeministDragon · 31/01/2014 19:41

Ahem.

'Lighthearted. ADJECTIVE

  1. amusing and entertaining:
    "a light-hearted speech"

  2. (of a person) cheerful or carefree.'

'Light-fingered. Adjective.

  1. A pick-pocket or person with kleptomaniac tendencies.'

HTH.

Post it to me.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 31/01/2014 19:42

Sellotape it to their door.

No matter how big it is.

Use fifteen rolls of Sellotape if you have to.

It'll be fun.

And look like something out of the film 'Seven'.
