Something ive experinced quite a lot, nothing against that personally if thats what you like.

It seems so many men like that look and they cant fathom a woman who doesnt go in for it.

I hate shopping and bling, and dresses. I like books and quirky things, big, messy hair and eyeliner.

I know it cant be everyman, but it really feels like its the majority.

Do i need to get myself down jane norman?

you mix with the wrong crowd.

Where I live, the essex look is considered quite unappealing.

Hang out with posh people! Wink, or countryside folk, or posh countryside folk, not a false eyelash in sight!

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 27/01/2014 14:39

I know plenty of men who think that look is horrible and really prefer someone to look more natural.

I think it depends where you are meeting these blokes, tbh. (and dare I say also depends how old they are. Grin I find the younger ones are more influenced by the current 'trends' than the more mature gimmers ones )

NinjaBunny · 27/01/2014 14:39

Is the 'towie' look the fake eyelashes, nails, hair and orange fake tan?

I don't know any men who'd go for that.

From what I've seen men like you to look clean. Fake tan, loads of make-up and greasy hair from products looks really grubby.

CailinDana · 27/01/2014 14:40

Most of the men I know think the towie look is rather silly and bizarre.

ISeeYouShiverWithAntici · 27/01/2014 14:42

Same here, CailinDana. It's more often mocked than admired.

Not that mocking a woman for how she chooses to dress etc is acceptable either, just that there is a distinct lack of phwoors to be heard.

squoosh · 27/01/2014 14:42

Ummmm no, a certain kind of man goes for the Towie look, generally men who dress like the male cast members of Towie.

Walk down any street in Britain and you'll see that alternative / fashiony / indie looks are just as common as the tantastic brigade.

There are always lots of tribes and people generally go for people who are in the same tribe as them.

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2014 14:45

Are you having conversations with actual men and not second guessing?

I'm in Liverpool, we have, for years done our own version of the TOWIE look, I enjoy that (our) look, for special occasions.

Most men that I have honest conversations with, don't just go for that look, or expect it.

Some men want women who look like that, some women want men who look (to me) over groomed and "pretty boy".

It's different if out on "the pull", but not for ongoing RL.

If youvare in a city, there are enough bars/places that you can meet your "type".

It must be frustrating if you are in a less cosmopolitan area.

HenriettaMaria · 27/01/2014 14:48

There was a bloke queuing behind me in Primark the other day banging on and on to the woman he was with about how he hated the fake tan / false eyelashes look. He was very loud and I think he wanted a medal or something because he wasn't taken in by the fakeness.

So not all men like the look.

He did sound like a prat, though. Grin

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2014 14:48

I hope this thread doesn't get insulting, if I (or two if my DD's) stopped liking false tan, I wouldn't get more intelligent, just paler.

squoosh · 27/01/2014 14:51

When I look at Towie I'm always amazed at their ages, a lot of them are in their early 20s but look so much older. It's quite a full on look.

zizzo · 27/01/2014 14:52

It's a really cheap, tacky, obvious look.

There are a lot of men I know who prefer natural beauty - you just need to meet more of them Grin

zizzo · 27/01/2014 14:53

I refer to it as the drag queen look Blush

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 27/01/2014 14:53

It's a tacky look and has absolutely nothing to do with the mainstream Essex. I am an Essex girl born and bred, I don't know anyone who dresses like the TOWIE lot and I don't know any men who think it's a great look!

Logg1e · 27/01/2014 14:55

Most people I know wouldn't have a clue what the TOWIE look was. Me included.

whiteblossom · 27/01/2014 14:56

My dh would say "look at the state of that". In fact so would my mum and most people I know.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 27/01/2014 14:57

I watched something with a quiz question saying 76% of men would prefer it if there partner always wore make up. I thought that was high. Mind you I did see it on I'm a celebrity get me out of here so possibly not the most scientific research.

Crowler · 27/01/2014 14:57

I think you're mixing with the wrong men. It's not a good look, and "normal" men do not like it.

DelightedIAm · 27/01/2014 14:57

I agree I think it is the type of man you hang out with or are you on Plenty of fish the free site?

CuttedUpGrape · 27/01/2014 14:59

hahahaaa birds fair point

ThatBloodyWoman · 27/01/2014 15:00

I don't like the Towie look, and I don't think most men over the age of 20 do either.

I think a lot less focus needs to be paid to what look men find 'acceptable' though......

MoreBeta · 27/01/2014 15:00

I cannot fathom the 'towie' look either. Not appealing really.

It doesn't really happen round where we are (although I don't go out at night so maybe it does in the nightclubs). I saw it in an airport once a whole gaggle of youngish women dressed the same style going on holiday together.

There was a woman nearby with her DCs and DH visibly aghast at the scene before her eyes. The look on her face was a picture.

I bet she was a MNetter.

VoyageDeVerity · 27/01/2014 15:01

This look is really in where I live and yes, you don't really get much attention if you're not glam.

I was in a bar at the weekend and a guy came up to me saying I had a lovely natural look , v different...
I was wearing false lashes and full make up!!

zizzo · 27/01/2014 15:01

lol Creamy, was that sample taken from men who are inclined to respond to IACGMOOH quizzes?

My DH, diplomatic as always, says "a little bit of makeup enhances my natural beauty" Hmm

Sparklysilversequins · 27/01/2014 15:02

I think it depends where you go out tbh. I go out in Nottingham sometimes when i visit family and find that glamorous look very prevalent, also women seem to get really dressed up just for a Saturday shopping. Whereas i live in London and when I go out here it's a much more easy going look, smart rather than full on glam. When people come to stay and we are going to go out I always tell them that they won't need to get dressed up to the extent that they would for a night out in Notts. I am in West London though and it gets a bit more glam "Up West".

Crowler · 27/01/2014 15:02

I like the weekend glam look - there are different interpretations.
