Something ive experinced quite a lot, nothing against that personally if thats what you like.

It seems so many men like that look and they cant fathom a woman who doesnt go in for it.

I hate shopping and bling, and dresses. I like books and quirky things, big, messy hair and eyeliner.

I know it cant be everyman, but it really feels like its the majority.

Do i need to get myself down jane norman?

Education and intelligence doesn't dictate preference of style, of course.

But there is a correlation between those on lower incomes and the adoption of a more extreme sense of style - it's a form of identity creation. Fashion provides a sense of belonging and expression, not to mention the security of feeling part of a social tribe. By looking like someone off TOWIE, some people may feel part of a 'normal' group. I lived through this in the 90s with the sportswear Adidas craze, we're just now seeing a new, more 'glam' form of it.

DH is mid forties & hates it. Bro is twenties & seems to suffer it with sil... maybe a generation thing? But most men I know actually laugh at Orange girls with too much fakeness.

Morloth · 27/01/2014 22:34

Does it matter what men like?

I assume like most 'beauty' things women do it predominantly for other women.

Most men I know, don't actually notice that much.

We've been discussing of late whether there is a group name for women and men who dress like this? Asked the only 20 something we could find.

Just nice to know how one describes the group of people if asked.... Smile

In our day there were goths, bikers, grunge....is 'emo' still a thing?

(feel v old when in local high street! Confused

Lj8893 · 27/01/2014 22:37

Yeah I think emo is still a thing! But I don't see it as much as I did when I was 14/15 and it was the main trend!

Don't like it. It makes them look old erm harsher and boringly the same. my niece towied up for her 21st. She looked awful unfortunately, massive hair, orange tan. She is such a naturally pretty girl with beautiful skin, eyes and hair - she really did herself no favours.

I saw a picture of Sam what's her name from CBB looking very natural instead of her usual OTT glam look. She looked beautiful - I must be getting old and should take up crocheting.

Can't wait for this look to go - it does young women no favours.

I think women should dress and look however they like and not be judged.

MoreBeta · 28/01/2014 10:01

Morloth - you are right. Men like what they like and they like what they get.

I happen to like to take a certain amount of care with my appearance which means cleanliness, good haircut, well fitting, stylish clothes. Apart from adding a bit of makeup and doing her nails that's what DW does. Why should men want women to do more than what men should/would want to do for themselves?

Most beauty products aimed at women seem to be pushed in a way that makes women feel insecure.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 28/01/2014 14:01

I like big hair and eyelashes, and heels, but i never think about what men like. I know what they like,on the whole, but I don't include them in my wardrobe choices.
