To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

Bananas.

Utterly bananas.

ladypete · 16/01/2014 20:26

YABU.

Perhaps it's their only internet access and they were catching up with people that they don't see often or who live abroad etc.

Perhaps they DO work and it was their day off. I find that statement rather rude tbh, especially as you also felt the need to mention their ages. People in their early twenties on Facebook must be unemployed, lazy and missing a "work hard in life" ethic?

herecomesthsun · 16/01/2014 20:31

you could ask for a printer on freecycle, it's the sort of thing people upgrade and then ditch the old one?

HuntingforBunting · 16/01/2014 20:31

Op I too think your post is a bit bananas. But! I recognize how stressed out you are about so many things and this is just another thing winding you up, when really it's about all the other stuff going on in your life past and present. Therapy is the best thing for this I bet other things in life would fall into place too....

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 20:33

here

Wouldn't it be funny if she did and turned up at the "layabouts" house to collect it :o

OP

I think it's a lot easier to pre-conceive [sic] things about someone on the basis of 7 pages containing their actual opinions, than it is to pre-conceive [sic] things about 2 people whose heads you saw the back of for a few minutes in a library.

flyingbebe · 16/01/2014 20:35

RealCarrie, I love how you post a thread on an opinion board and then become really surprised when people post their opinion and it's different from yours.

I got a wireless printer for nothing from my Tesco Clubcard vouchers - it should have been £30, but I doubled up £15 worth of vouchers. Stop moaning about what the people in the library are doing on the PUBLIC computers. You could pay, and go to an internet café if you don't want to wait while others take their TURN on the public computers at the library...

CouthyMow · 16/01/2014 20:41

You obviously have internet at home for Social Networking, as you are, you know, Social Networking right now. I would hazard a guess that they don't have internet at home, and that is their only way of even accessing Social Networking.

And who are you, Professionally Offended of Tunbridge Wells??!!

insummeritrains · 16/01/2014 20:41

my printer, my printer, my printer...

I've got more in me
A printer would set me free
Printing documents sheet by sheet
While you go back to Benefit Street..

NewtRipley · 16/01/2014 20:51

I think you absolutely should get your coat NewtRipley.

Then get down to library and read their dictionaries online

And all that jazz
Look at you, you clearly are a lout.
And all that jazz
Shift your ass I want to get my turn
Why will the great unwashed never learn
That in the library
The computers are for me.

And all. That. Jazz.

This thread is awesome.

Fleta · 16/01/2014 21:00

I'm sure there could be a great rhyme involving leotard and Hewlett Packard.....

TalisaMaegyr · 16/01/2014 21:00

I sense the OP may be namechanging quite soon....

CaterpillarCara · 16/01/2014 21:00

On a more serious note, isn't it sad how the language / ideas of deserving and undeserving poor is creeping back in everywhere. We seem to be hurtling ourselves back toward the Victorian workhouses. (Would the OP mind if people Facebooked there?)

OP, I am sorry you are in a distressed state. But it is never a good idea to turn your worries into judgement of others - walk a mile in their shoes and all that.
