to think older teens should be made to watch what an abortion is in PHSE. (sorry possibly triggering)

I know this may be controversial but I have thought this for some time.
Abortion is legal in this country but still straight forward , informative talks about it are clouded by morality and judgement and at the end of the day, sometimes people need to have one in tragic circumstances i.e people who are made critically ill by pregnancy.
And are often as well as already scared and sad, i don't think most people make this decision lightly, are woefully underprepared which i'm sure must only add to emotional trauma.
and of course there are too many potential uninterested fathers who just utter 'get rid of it' at the hearing of potentially being a father, so disgustingly flippantly like throwing a crisp packet in the bin, I do think if they especially had seen a medical video of the procedure, well i think the number of people who just thrown that term around would be significantly less, if they had actually seen that image with their own eyes , and would be less detached from the idea and process.
I'm talking older teens , like 16+ here , not 11 year olds.
my mum and i have always though this, i would find it traumatising and pretty shocking, but compared to people who feel shame, go backstreet putting themselves at risk and people who go through with pregnancies they did not want/need. Surely a bit of discomfort is better then that being a legacy of another generation.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/01/2014 22:16

My posts:
1/ IMO I think you are TOTALLY and utterly WRONG. sad
Im currently PG and the baby has problems which many would abort for.
I spent a lot of time breaking my heart over what to do, and spent a lot of time on the Internet. I have never been so traumatised by anything. Seeing graphic images nearly pushed me over the edge.
It was bad enough, as a child, having anti abortion information pushed on me by a religious parent. Thankfully back then it wasn't graphic images, and my general belief has been freedom of choice. But having actually been in the situation of having ro consider terminating, even as a person who likes to be totally in control and know what is going to happen, seeing what happens DOES NOT HELP.
If, being made to watch something like this puts even one young person off making the choice which is right for them, then this would be an injustice.
Young people's sex education should cover EVERYTHING. From considering intercourse through sex into pregnancy, options and beyond in an objective manner. Whatever choices I made myself, abortion is never wrong. And your view seems like the opinion of someone with an agenda. Hopefully you will never have control of my DCs sex ed.
2/ WHAT IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS?
3/You are suggesting taking away people's choices.
How about those people who have to terminate, OP really don't want to, and can only get through it by detaching themselves from the procedure? How does having been made to watch exactly what happens in school help them?
Or, people who are pg through rape or abuse?

Your reply in response:

well thats not a good enough reason saggy, wanting to live in willful ignorance, there was a time when people did that about sex and pregnancy remember, did more harm than good remember...

And IM an unpleasant cruel bully? Hmm

StraightLineOfResignation · 13/01/2014 22:16

Echt that's not even remotely what I said I AM NOT A PRO LIFER. And yet still people want to say I am ??

OP posts:
echt · 13/01/2014 22:19

I have not said you are a pro-lifer, OP.

All my quotes were taken directly from your OP and thread title.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/01/2014 22:19

In fact, your reply to me actually confirms what everyone read your OP to imply. You're basically saying that I SHOULD have watched graphic footage/looked at images so I wouldn't be ignorant.
Which would have increased the guilt I already carry, implying that you DO have a pro life agenda.

LineRunner · 13/01/2014 22:19

OP, I have never said you are a 'pro-lifer' and wouldn't use the term anyway. I have said your premise is incoherent.

OP BACK OFF now! Leave Saggy alone. I haven't caught up with the thread will do so now but I don't care what the hell has been going on here you will not speak to another poster like that. Leave her alone.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/01/2014 22:24

Woah- that is not on straightline!

Chippednailvarnish · 13/01/2014 22:25

What on earth are you waffling on about OP? You posted about an emotive topic, people have challenged you. Behaving like a hysterical teenager just confirms the ridiculousness of everything you have said.

BOFtastic · 13/01/2014 22:26

This really reminds me of SassySusan/WashWithCare, and the way she used to single out people going through hell.

It wasn't nice then, and it isn't nice now.

BACK. OFF.

TheNightIsDark · 13/01/2014 22:26

What NL said. If anyone's being a disgusting bully it's you. You're clearly targeting Saggy out of all the posters who have disagreed with your opinion.

Do you know what?

This OP wants the thread deleted, for obvious reasons (arse handing on a plate variety).

It has not been deleted.

So the OP is upping the ante.

MorrisZapp · 13/01/2014 22:27

Take a deep breath OP and tell us exactly why you think teenagers should watch films of abortions. 15 pages in and it's still like watching David Walliams dancing round with a flute.

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/01/2014 22:27

Might be the op.

Might.

SecretNutellaFix · 13/01/2014 22:27

If you aren't a pro-lifer then you must be a troll to deny with such vitriol the impression you have made upon the entire thread. Of your posting.

Birdinthebush · 13/01/2014 22:28

Wow I am so impressed by all the overwhelming pro choice comments on this thread. Those of us in Britain ( not Ireland) are so lucky to have free abortion practically on demand. Earlier this year Spain has banned abortion in all but life threatening situations and it's becoming limited in the USA. Thank Dog we are not following their trends.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/01/2014 22:28

PMSL!
Prove it OP. Where have I bullied you?

NorthernLurker · 13/01/2014 22:29

That's an extremely good point BOF.

NoelOfLorst · 13/01/2014 22:29

Absolutely agree with Line Runner

People can actually read, and make up their own minds. If a load of posts start to be deleted, MNHQ will have no choice but to delete the thread.

BOFtastic · 13/01/2014 22:30

Yep, good ol' Dog...

Whiskwarrior · 13/01/2014 22:31

Oh, fuck off OP.

Lots of wankers about on AIBU today, starting threads on provocative subjects, making no case, backtracking, sock puppeting.

Have you nothing better to do?

If you want to report someone, report me. I literally couldn't give a shit.

MadameDefarge · 13/01/2014 22:32

TBH, I can't get worked up about abortion.

It's a legal procedure. It is a choice women can make.

IMO it is a good choice for most people.

Meh to all the you must agonize and pay penance for your choices.

I was made to watch a woman giving birth when I was about at school. That is child abuse in my opinion.

Abortion does not have to be accompanied by breast beating guilt to be ok.

Watching fetal parts being removed is akin to child abuse to me.

LineRunner · 13/01/2014 22:34

So I would ask that everybody asks MNHQ to retain the thread, stays civil as we all have been, and lets the OP hoist themselves by their own petard.

Please report this or my previous post in order to do this.

MadameDefarge · 13/01/2014 22:35

Oh, OP, just to be clear.

Abortion is fine. No problems with it at all.

Actually think it should be freely available.

Might save us all a lot of bother and money in the future.

Save poor wee teenagers being caught up in some awful moral dilemma they are not emotionally capable of dealing with.

Just a thought.
