to think older teens should be made to watch what an abortion is in PHSE. (sorry possibly triggering)

I know this may be controversial but I have thought this for some time.
Abortion is legal in this country but still straight forward , informative talks about it are clouded by morality and judgement and at the end of the day, sometimes people need to have one in tragic circumstances i.e people who are made critically ill by pregnancy.
And are often as well as already scared and sad, i don't think most people make this decision lightly, are woefully underprepared which i'm sure must only add to emotional trauma.
and of course there are too many potential uninterested fathers who just utter 'get rid of it' at the hearing of potentially being a father, so disgustingly flippantly like throwing a crisp packet in the bin, I do think if they especially had seen a medical video of the procedure, well i think the number of people who just thrown that term around would be significantly less, if they had actually seen that image with their own eyes , and would be less detached from the idea and process.
I'm talking older teens , like 16+ here , not 11 year olds.
my mum and i have always though this, i would find it traumatising and pretty shocking, but compared to people who feel shame, go backstreet putting themselves at risk and people who go through with pregnancies they did not want/need. Surely a bit of discomfort is better then that being a legacy of another generation.

How is it women hating? Where I used to live there were girls boasting about "getting rid" of babies. And I'm not trying to win an argument I'm giving my opinion

Crowler · 13/01/2014 21:30

Er, because who's left with the (unwanted) baby?

Surely not the dad i.e. the man.

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 13/01/2014 21:31

But if these women can't make a simple appoinment to get free contraception do you think a child would be right in that situation. glitz

Glitz, you are very confused, in my personal opinion.

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:34

When you put it like that then no but I personally don't think it's fair on the foetus. In an ideal world contraception would be forced upon them but that would never happen

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:35

I'm not confused at all

Crowler · 13/01/2014 21:37

Some people think that contraception is wrong. God forbid their will be forced upon you, yes?

gordyslovesheep · 13/01/2014 21:38

forcing women to use contraception (women not men) is your idea of an ideal world? I hope to god you are confused Hmm

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:38

Why not give the baby to a couple who are unable to conceive and have longed for a child?

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/01/2014 21:38

Glitz

You put a foetus's rights above a sentient adult woman's? Nice.

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:39

I use contraception though

AbbeyBartlet · 13/01/2014 21:39

So what does watching a video of the procedure achieve? Many women find it a hard decision to make, that would make it harder. I was lucky, mine was a decision made with no emotion and I suffered no emotional fallout, but making women feel even more bad about it is a shitty thing to do. Or would you rather they went ahead with the pregnancy despite the risk to their own mental health?

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 13/01/2014 21:39

Wondered when the adoption would come up, fair do it took 13-14 pages.

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:40

Women have more choices of contraception than men. Men only have the choice of condoms which clearly aren't used if abortions are taking place

echt · 13/01/2014 21:40

OP, where were you abused? As I understand it, abuse is name calling. What I've seen here is well-argued critiques of the substance of your argument, such as it is. What HAS been abused, and rightly so are your poorly-expressed posts.

You appear to be conflating disagreement with your ideas and their expression, with refections on you as a person. If you identify with your ideas to such an extent, then posting on AIBU is not a very good idea.

LineRunner · 13/01/2014 21:40

Glitz, you are expressing an incoherent premise.

echt · 13/01/2014 21:40

"Are", not "is". Blush

specialsubject · 13/01/2014 21:41

yes, good idea. I'm sure women who are carrying a severely disabled baby that won't survive birth or will have no quality of life, or women who have been raped, or women whose contraception has failed need to see this kind of video to help their decision.... Angry

I detest anti-abortionists. No-one is forced to have an abortion but there they are, forcing pregnancies to continue.

Shit, this thread has just reminded me that women don't have rights and its their fault if they get pregnant cause all contraception is 100% perfect.

Thatisall · 13/01/2014 21:43

I had to watch an ultrasound of a surgical abortion in Religious Studies when I was 14-15.
It was horrendous. If school tries to make my dd watch the same, I'll fight against it. I didn't want to witness that and I don't want my dd to either

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 13/01/2014 21:43

Women are not incubators that can just hand over a baby to another couple. If that was the case surrogate mothers would be widy available.

Even with my hectic stressful home life I couldn't carry a baby for 9 months and then hand it over.

LineRunner · 13/01/2014 21:44

Let's Do The Time Warp yeah

GlitzAndGiggles · 13/01/2014 21:44

Erm crowler completely no need for that :/. Does that apply to every woman using it?
