to feel that it's quite nitpicky here these days?

I've been a prolific poster on here for seven years under various names (Cod. Lavender. Moldies. Shitting elves. Pirates. That fucking bat.)

In the last few months I've been nipped at for so many things - posting style, choice of words, posting in the wrong place... And today I made a mistake and got pulled up quite rightly but then got pulled up again when i tried to rectify it and didn't do so exactly as one poster had suggested. Their point was valid but it kind of eclipses the issue in question.

I've always loved that Mumsnet posters don't allow inaccuracies and are quick to correct them. And I've always tried to take criticism on the chin. But it's been so frequent recently that I've committed minor infractions of unwritten rules, I feel pretty fed up and got at. In forums I've always tried to ignore or overlook errors - I suppose it's easier to ignore them than to go out of my way to correct people, and for what purpose? It feels like there are plain clothes posting police in here.

Has anyone else noticed this or have I randomly become hypersensitive?

I agree it's all a bit shit really. I was pulled up for a typo the other day with a dictionary def of the word to boot. Mainly because I was trying to be funny on a thread that had been taken over by the professionally offended.
I have to say I think I've had a bellyfull of Mn now- I've been here in different guises for 6 or so years. It seems to have lost a lot of its general humour - indignant self righteousness seems to be the order of the day.
The worst thing is the Twitter stuff. I've had a couple of corking stories I might have shared a few years ago but now I don't want to take the risk.
Anyone any suggestions of where else to go?

I've just posted on your other thread, OP. Ignore them. Or challenge them. Either way, other people's opinions matter not at all.

YANBU... I've said that twice today, must be an all-time record. Grin

Mintyy · 07/01/2014 18:28

Retrospective editing of classics threads? Tell me more. I wasn't here for the NYE debacle but I saw what went on and it really wasn't pretty.

Yanbu, op, I find it very difficult to get any enjoyment out of Mumsnet any more. I post a lot less (could be seen as a good thing, I spose). The current tantrumming toddler thread is a perfect example of why.

Many of my favourite posters have just gone: Getorf? Fellatio? where are they for example.

My family said I was lovely, nice and happy go lucky until I joined M.net
I am definitely not a sheep and have a mind of my own, but the more recent nastiness must be rubbing off.
I am sorry If I have offended anyone, my main problem is I call a spade a spade.
Perhaps its time to leave, can't even remember when I joined, have looked in my profile but not sure I added it Grin

AnnabelleLee... Did you learn any manners yourself? I think I know the answer but thought I would ask out of politeness. Hmm

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/01/2014 18:41

bella411... I know you left your earlier thread. Not everybody criticised the way you post and quite a few posters pulled those who did up on their rudeness.

Nobody should feel inhibited to post here, however they want to.

OTheHugeManatee · 07/01/2014 18:44

YANBU OP. I pretty much just lurk these days and know a lot of other former regs who don't bother at all any more.

Farrowandbawl · 07/01/2014 18:46

There's not a lot of point in posting or even trying to help another poster when all you get picked up on is either punctuation or spelling. It's pathetic.

I make loads of mistakes, I know I do. Even if I read though it I still don't spot them and when you live my life and are tired all the time for one reason or another - the last thing you give a shit about is your spelling because let's face it. MN isn't a fucking huge deal. As long as I don't make mistake in my studies or job applications then I couldn't give a toss about my posts on MN - just as long as people know what it is I'm trying to say.

It pisses me off even more when they say "it hurts my eyes". No it fucking doesn't, me poking you in the eyes will a sharp pencil will hurt, not my typos.

Farrowandbawl · 07/01/2014 18:47

*Dont give a shit about

See?

Farrowandbawl · 07/01/2014 18:47

In fact, no I was right the first time.

Mintyy · 07/01/2014 18:48

OTheHugeManatee - you are one of the posters I have missed Sad.

bella411 · 07/01/2014 18:49

Cheers lyingwitch. I noticed people did. I defended my sentence structure as it can be a bit incoherent but not understanding n for and is nit picky. And as said if they can't understand my post just cos of an n they aren't worth bein bothered about.

I did n didn't leave my post early as didnt have the time to write full answer as to look after LG n was already an hour late to drop her off at her grans, lazy/crazy Sunday mornings. N I had said I know I was bu.

Sparklingbrook · 07/01/2014 18:49

If you are really low, and are crying out for help and a shoulder to cry on don't forget your grammar, punctuation and paragraphs folks. Doesn't matter that you can barely see the keyboard/screen for tears. Hmm

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/01/2014 18:55

It's heartening to see that there are some posters here who have sense of decency regarding critiquing the way somebody posts. It's got much worse here of late and I'm going to call it when I see it.

I might also petition MNHQ to have some posters banished to Pedants' Corner where they can pointlessly nitpick each other to death without bothering anybody else...

loveolives · 07/01/2014 18:56

I am finding that they tend to do it when they are losing the argument. I have to say dealing with the pedants is easier than dealing with the plethora of goady posters who must make a spreadsheet of other posts so they can cross reference at will and gleefully jump on any inconsistency no mater how minor.

tobiasfunke · 07/01/2014 19:02

Shit I spelt matter wrong. Leave me alone all of you. Stop taunting me with your superior typing skills.

sonlypuppyfat · 07/01/2014 19:10

I got picked up once on an inaccuracy in my thread once I thought WTF am I under oath!

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 07/01/2014 19:15

I love the fact that people criticise use of n but are quite happy with dh, ffs, aibu, odffd, etc etc! The amount of bloody acronyms on here lately is nuts. They don't hurt my eyes though.
