I just despair at people's disregard for basic hygiene.
Bathroom sinks at people's houses with no soap, let alone a nailbrush,
greasy hair, dirty toilets, grubby fingernails, animal hair floating around and cats sitting on food-preparation surfaces. Am I stuffy or are people really grim about hygiene these days, despite how easy we have it wrt access to soap + hotwater?

hahahahahahah Biscuit

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 03/01/2014 14:56

Genuinely don't ever see this in anyone's home I visit. A bit of child-related untidiness and clutter, but dirtiness, never.

Quangle · 03/01/2014 14:56

blimey it's never occurred to me to put a nail brush next to the basin Confused

Soap, I do have though.

Wevet · 03/01/2014 14:56

Who are these 'people'? Do you just have a really grubby circle of friends?

ExcuseTypos · 03/01/2014 14:57

I only know one person who a bit lax in that department. She and her dc have all survived so I don't think it really does anyone any harm.
So it boils down to personal preference doesn't it?

Piscivorus · 03/01/2014 14:58

A bit of muck is good for you. You are more likely to develop asthma and have a lower immune system if things are too clean.

ExcuseTypos · 03/01/2014 14:58

I was going to ask how come you know a lot of people like this.

Do you mix in aristocratic circles?

madmomma · 03/01/2014 14:59

I wonder whether I might actually wevet much as I love them.
Or of course it could be me...

Why is it an issue there is no nail brush, were you thinking of using it? Shock

SaucyJack · 03/01/2014 14:59

Why does it matter how I other people choose to live?

JinglingRexManningDay · 03/01/2014 15:00

No nail brush Shock

ReallyTired · 03/01/2014 15:00

lol... somone has far too much time on their hands!!

madmomma · 03/01/2014 15:01

I'm not talking about a house being perfectly clean - God knows mine isn't. Just frequent hand washing, a clean toilet, daily-ish shower and no animals near food.

I've never seen a nail brush in real life.

They were mentioned briefly in Jane Eyre and What Katy Did. But other than that I've not heard them talked about.

Confused

Can anyone recommend a film that may have one in?

Nail brush next to the sink?! I have never seen this.

As for greasy hair is another person's greasy hair going to effect you? My hair gets greasy in about 7/8 hours, I shower every morning but if I want to go out for an afterwork drink I have to use dry shampoo or I look like I havnt washed in weeks, often after a long day my hair looks greasy.

I think you are being unpleasantly judgemental.

Hoppinggreen · 03/01/2014 15:02

Never come across this at any of my friends of families houses.
Someone needs to get new ( more house proud) friends methinks!!

WigWearer · 03/01/2014 15:02

YABU. Nailbrushes are filthy, germ-ridden things. Like crusty flannels

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 03/01/2014 15:03

A nailbrush??? Crumbs, if I did have one of those (didn't they go out with the ark though) I certainly wouldn't want the world and his wife using it too. Soap of course is a must. My cat does like to get on the work top although I do chuck her off every time, she is such a skank :)

MurderOfGoths · 03/01/2014 15:03

Nail brush?? Think my nan had one of those.. but then my nan was a bit of a hoarder

BuffyxSummers · 03/01/2014 15:03

Aren't nail brushes unhygienic anyway?

BoysiesBack · 03/01/2014 15:04

I have hand wash in my bathroom but not a nail brush. Do people leave them on the sink? Do you need a special one for guests?

My bathroom does get slightly grubby on odd occasions too, I have 4 boys and a busy life, it happens.

I've also had to leave the house with greasy hair once or twice. Sometimes there's just no time to shower before the school run in the mornings when you've got 3 DCs who need to be physically fed & changed. I do shower when I get back though.

madmomma · 03/01/2014 15:05

Why? Just musing really. Was at a friend's yesterday and her toddler lobbed her dummy on the floor. One of the dogs came over and touched his nose on it and my friend just gave it back to her. Stuff like that is what I'm talking about. Little things but lots of them. No soap in a bathroom is just a mystery to me. It wasn't a one-off -I visit this (other) person a lot and there's never any soap. She's a nurse too. It just puzzles me.

I have a nail brush! Brilliant for getting the garden muck out from under my nails. "Gone out with the ark?" Its Alessi fgs!

UriGeller · 03/01/2014 15:10

In a house with a toddler and a dog, I can bet you there's worse things going on that giving the child a dummy that the dog has sniffed!

Methe · 03/01/2014 15:10

You'd hate my house op but I expect the feeling would be mutual.
