Do you know anyone in real life who votes for UKIP?

And if so, do you judge them?

If you're a UKIP supporter yourself, are you happy to declare it in public/at work?

I haven't yet (well I think!) meet anyone who votes for this party. Someone from FB linked something from UKIP FB page disagreeing with it. This lead me to their page. The supporters of this party come across as thick (going by the FB page)

I can't believe this is the same party that was lead by that talk show host. Silk something.

Anyway that's my opinion but my questions above still stand.

Sadly yes I do know someone. Its my father and yes I think I do judge him for it.
Why can't you believe its the same party?

I don't and wouldn't support any party who feels the need to volunteer the fact they aren't racist..

I meant that it was a joke party when Silk was the leader but now it seems to be a bit mainstream!

Yes. But I judged people that voted for Blair after Iraq far more.

A very good friends husband is the local ukip councillor. He's a lovely guy. Very sociable and funny. We never talk politics but I have never seen any racist or other discriminatory behaviour

I have seen things on fb too, but nobody I know openly admits to voting for them.
The alarming fact is though that yes they are considered a mainstream party and from what I hear gaining support.
Maybe we should be asking why this is, not calling their followers thick.

No I don't support them but likewise I don't go around saying who I vote for.

I wouldn't judge anybody over who they voted for. It's a personal choice and as long as it's within the law why not?
Immigration is a hot topic at the moment and we do need to address it whether anyone likes it or not.

Conversations about political or religious choices are always a bit dodgy. There will always be righteous cock around who thinks they know better, shout you down and try and make you look stupid. Best keep your preferences to yourself, at the end of the day it's nothing to do with anyone else.

Yeah, one of our neighbours has bumper stickers all over their car saying they voted UKIP and in the run up to the last election they covered their windows in newspaper headlines about immigrants ("Immigrants Caught Stealing Hard Working Brits Hamsters" type daftness).

I judged them for that.

I'm curious as to why they have quite a few black and mixed race members. I assumed they'd all be a 'certain type' of white daily mail type readers.

Well I don't talk about politics a lot, but whenever I do (making small talk, mentioning a newspaper headline or something) then people claim to be voting UKIP next time. Happened only yesterday in the newsagents while I was waiting in the queue and then there was a chorus of people agreeing. If you think people are ashamed to admit it you are mistaken.

My ILs will at the next election. They are loyal Conservatives but won't vote for Cameron because of gay marriage (they are rabidly against it) so UKIP is the next best thing. Plus they are xenophobic.

Ha ha I do! Neighbour and local council candidate. I once persuaded him to give a regular lift to our Slovakian au pair from the local college to home as they attended night school on the same night.Never have discussed politics with him....DH possibly has.

Yes my neighbour's friend (well I don't actually know them). They asked neighbour to put up a UKIP sign at last election and everyone thought it was mine. I had to stick one from a different party up to make clear it wasn't .

No. But I'm old enough to remember the last election Mrs Thatcher won and apparently no one voted for her either (I really didn't)

I also live in Scotland so actually in reality almost nobody voted for either Mrs T or UK OP.

I suspect both my parents of voting for UKIP. They have never outright said that they do, but they absolutely hate the EU - blaming everything that they dislike in the UK on membership.

I gave up discussing politics with them years ago - it's safer.

I hope they don't vote UKIP. But I pretty sure that they do. Sad

I have a colleague who votes UKIP (his FB profile pic is even the UKIP logo). He's a bit of a laughing stock because of it, tbh.

I also have a good friend who, while she isn't remotely a supporter, voted for them in the local elections as a "protest vote". I was a bit Hmm about that, because whatever the motives, it was still a vote for people who would happily throw my DH, and possibly even my DDs and I, out of the country.

My uncle is a ukip candidate. He is not a racist as far asone can tell. He is not even particularly xenophobic - his mum was Icelandic, his wife is Spanish, he likes French holidays.

He has aways been a small government type tory but is not stupid or evil in my opinion. His politics are different to mine but he honestly believes in his values. He is passionately opposed to the UK's economic connection to Europe, this is his driving force and his obsession.
If you assume all ukip voters are stupid racists, then you are not thinking straight.
