Do you know anyone in real life who votes for UKIP?

And if so, do you judge them?

If you're a UKIP supporter yourself, are you happy to declare it in public/at work?

I haven't yet (well I think!) meet anyone who votes for this party. Someone from FB linked something from UKIP FB page disagreeing with it. This lead me to their page. The supporters of this party come across as thick (going by the FB page)

I can't believe this is the same party that was lead by that talk show host. Silk something.

Anyway that's my opinion but my questions above still stand.
Thanks.

'Op your comment 'the supporters sound thick' is precisely the type of arrogant attitude that allows people to think they are being patronised and ignored by the powers that be and go vote for parties like UKIP'

I have to agree.

I'd never vote UKIP, ever, but I think we have to accept they are a major risk and treat them as that, sadly. I loathe so much they stand for*, yet know too many people are disillusioned with mainstream politics to ignjore the risk. People feel they have no representation so are making choices I would consider dodgy.

*I accept the need for a wide debate on economic immigration from Europe, this does not need to be couched in racist or xenophobic terms however. 'Due to the economic crisis, resources are already stretched to breaking point for those already in the UK' is so very different to 'they come over here stealing benefits and the NHS from proper indigenous people'.

Hmm it's even Stevens as to parties having policies I disagree with.

There is a lot I agree with re Ukip, some I don't but shed loads that I disagree with as regards Tory,Libdems and Labour.Very little I agree with as regards Tory and Libdems these days actually.

People in RL don't discuss politics as much but I'm sure given the level of dissatisfaction with the other 3 main parties there are a fair few intelligent Ukip supporters out there that I know.

The fact is given the shower of shit alternatives to actually cast my vote I will have to make massive compromises whoever I vote for, others must be in the same situation.I'm not thick.Hmm

I am surprised that so many people think politics is personal and we shouldn't discuss it openly. However it seems that this is exactly how ukip have gained their popularity.

I vote ukip is a euphemism for

I don't discuss politics but want to complain about immigration.

Why are people so afraid to talk politics?

horsetowater · 15/04/2014 08:37

Actually the Labour party now have some fairly strong moves around immigration in their manifesto.

If the UKIP threat is the reason the government to actually take notice of this problem then gawd help us all.

Look at the whole Wonga thing, the benefit cutoffs and child poverty, the complete decay of NHS, the mad housing bubble, the financial crisis. Immigration is only one of the issues that successive governments have buried their heads in the sand about because they are too busy posturing amongst themselves and havent got the guts to confont.

It's always too little too late.

Maybe if you feel so strongly retro look at the cumulative impact?

What's the worst of the UKIP policies compared to A N Other? Leaving aside immigration as that is what attracts UKIP voters usually. Well, losing my disabled children to strange residential camps by enforcement, being homeless or unable to eat through losing my carer's benefits (DH does work but it doesn't pay enough for both).

AKA targeting the most vulnerable and most helpless in society.

Yes, he is a wonderful man, but his views are straight up reactionary. I don't mind him voting for them as long as it splits the vote and gives labour a decent chance.
