I can buy a higher welfare chicken for less £ than a lower welfare turkey. And it will be lovely.

Chicken here too :)

DP is making some sort of herb type rub for it. Hell, mine is in a foil tray from M&S. So lazy.

Don't care, I'm working 2pm-9.30pm, and I like chicken. So that is what we are having!!

WaffilyVersatile · 21/12/2013 23:04

having chicken and gammon here.. Turkey is too much cost and faff IMO

StarsUponThars · 21/12/2013 23:06

Gosh, is anyone actually having turkey Grin?

My niece is a veggie, she's having fake chicken, my sister is bringing it.
I've no idea WTF it is.

StarsUponThars · 21/12/2013 23:12

I saw a fake Turkey once at a thanksgiving dinner. It was a Tofurkey.

I much prefer chicken to turkey. We are having chicken too Smile

AlpacaPicnic · 21/12/2013 23:15

We're having Ham, Chicken, and a Beef and Veal Meatloaf!
I like choice and leftovers.

MsVestibule · 21/12/2013 23:17

FFS, of course YABU! Chicken is an every day meat, dry turkey is a once a year delicacy.

Sorry, just can't bear to see a unanimous thread on AIBU, goes against all the rules of MN.

ShylaMcClaus · 21/12/2013 23:17

Chicken, streaky bacon, honey, oranges, lemons and rosemary.

Gammon in some sort of apricot glaze the next day.

Turkey is grim Xmas Grin

StarsUponThars · 21/12/2013 23:23

Thanks MsV Smile. I know, I've let Santa down.

We have chicken or duck as dd1 hates turkey. Have already had turkey at work christmas thing and I think it was high welfare but it's easier for restaurant as they would buy things in bulk from farmers or something I guess. I like turkey actually, find chicken a bit greasy but it's not worth fighting about on Christmas and also I'd only get bits of turkey as a whole one is too much for us to eat even over a week and feels like waste of money.

ImAnElfJeSuisUneElf · 21/12/2013 23:28

Tofurkey is the best word ever.

RaspberryRuffle · 21/12/2013 23:33

Well I'm having turkey, DH would faint if we had chicken and since he cooks it and it tastes delicious I am looking forward to it. We will probably have it 3 days in a row (to use it up, not 3 turkeys).

RaspberryRuffle · 21/12/2013 23:34

Meant to say YANBU to have chicken though. As long as you have Christmas crackers and wear your hats.

AdmiralData · 21/12/2013 23:51

Chicken here, and beef. (I make fawesome gravy with beef, cheers Mam). Not got any crackers as I only like the fecking expensive ones with awesome stuff inside and I'm too tight to fork out. YANBU Op.

trufflesnuffler · 21/12/2013 23:54

We have gammon and beef every year...oh and we're Jewish Grin pah to tradition!

LittleMissGreen · 22/12/2013 00:00

We have done chicken for the last few years. Decided we prefer it to turkey. Less left overs. Better value.

snowtunesgirl · 22/12/2013 00:12

We're having chicken too! Grin

sykadelic15 · 22/12/2013 00:16

I hate turkey (I tried cooking it once. I hated the smell of it raw, cleaning it was gross... blegh) so Thanksgiving sucks. Thank goodness my husband also doesn't prefer it so we have brown sugar glazed smoked ham or rosemary chicken with roasted vegies (sweet potato, potatoes, carrots etc)... num num num.

I will eat it if someone else cooks it and with enough ketchup I don't realise it's not chicken :D

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/12/2013 00:16

I'm having turkey! I love turkey!

But there's nothing wrong with having chicken either.

Considering beef for next year though, for a change. (I'm not a mad Christmas planner honest!)

showdetailsofnicknamechanges · 22/12/2013 00:19

Pork Wellington here. Fed up with cooking turkey for half the family and duck/goose/pheasant/whatever for the other half of the family. This year, one dish that we will all enjoy. Xmas Smile

WilsonFrickett · 22/12/2013 00:20

Santa is crying.

But we're having a ruinously expensive happy chicken too.

bigfuckoffpie · 22/12/2013 00:27

Venison on the bone here, with a bit of bacon on top and chipolatas on the side, and parsnips, potatoes and brussel sprouts.

Then on Boxing Day morning I am making the non carby bits into a hot water crust pastry pie that we can eat in front of the telly when it is cool. It's not very healthy but it is once a year, and I am so looking forward to it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/12/2013 00:30

That pie sounds amazing. I'm a sucker for pastry.

Can I come over on Boxing Day big? Please? I'll be good.

bigfuckoffpie · 22/12/2013 00:43

Alis - if it works then I'll post a pic and recipe... am actually looking forward to the pie more than the roast!
