To have spent £180 on a diary

Early finish and drinks after work (Pitcher and Piano on Cornhill in London if it makes any difference).

Stumbled out of there well oiled, spotted Smythsons over the road at Royal Exchange and remembered I'd been asked by the missus for a diary for Xmas.

I went to pay and they wanted £180. That's £2 per day!

It's a nice diary but the price is still a bit toppy.

Just hope she like it

I'm looking forward to the concluding Xmas day AIBU thread once the missus has opened it ......... Xmas Grin

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 20/12/2013 22:03

Ha hahahahaha love it

Ignore the grinchs

WireCatGlitteryBaubles · 20/12/2013 22:03

If you can afford to & your dp appreciates it, then it's ok.

Grinches? Perhaps the fact that some of us could barely afford £180 for the whole of Xmas put together and the OP is on flashing his cash about Hmm

LaurieFairyCake · 20/12/2013 22:04

Lovely gift

I would be dead chuffed with that. Something you use every day, elegant looking.

leftkidney · 20/12/2013 22:04

There's an £180 diary, although it looks suspiciously like every other diary some of which cost a lot less. Maybe you should scrawl "this cost £180" on the front to maximise the effect.

Bluestocking · 20/12/2013 22:04

I'd be furious. But your wife may be a bonehead, in which case you're home and dry.

ItsAWonderfulCervix · 20/12/2013 22:06

I read this as dairy and was going to reply 'no, you can never have too much cheese'.

I stand by that.

Never too much cheese.

hallowisitmeyourelookingfor · 20/12/2013 22:06

By the way, I would be mightily pissed off if that's all my DP had bought me for Christmas! It's expensive, but it's a diary. Hardly very exciting ;)

rubyflipper · 20/12/2013 22:07

Bah humbug to you all.

I'd love a gift like that. Some gifts are meant to be frivolous.

Annonynon · 20/12/2013 22:07

It's the op's cash to flash however they want

Hope she loves it, it must be pretty special?! I think it's worth more than my car Grin

Greythorne · 20/12/2013 22:07

I wouldn't spend that but I don't think you are totally unreasonable. Hope your DW loves it.

WreckTangle · 20/12/2013 22:08

I'm not impressed, did you also get the £320 ballpoint pen?

lougle · 20/12/2013 22:10

Ok, I've RTFT, I've clicked the link...nice tonal ribbons, lambskin, featherweight pages. What's the other £150 for??

Google calendar, free. syncs with all devices. job done.

bzoo · 20/12/2013 22:13

You didn't get the 340 quid pen to go with?? We will have to tell her to LTB!

GoldenGytha · 20/12/2013 22:13

Blimey, I've spent about £150 on Christmas in total, and that includes all gifts, food, cards and postage. Even if you can afford it, £180 is still an obscene amount of money for a diary. I've never heard of Smythson, why are they so expensive Confused

FluffyJumper · 20/12/2013 22:15

I would be delighted with that as a gift.

SoloXantiaClaws · 20/12/2013 22:15

Hmmmmmm...I bought my exh2 an ostrich skin filofax from there in the 90's after he lost the first one I bought him from Selfridges... 'Big mistake. HUGE!!' cos he was so not worth it!

SoloXantiaClaws · 20/12/2013 22:16

Should have added... as long as your Dw is worth it; YANBU

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 20/12/2013 22:16

Twat Xmas Grin Take it back tomorrow, buy her something actually worth £180 that's for her, not a 'oh this'll do'.

usualsuspect · 20/12/2013 22:17

I've never heard of them.

ouryve · 20/12/2013 22:18

50p per day, but it's still a ridiculous amount of cash.

MissRabbitsOtherJob · 20/12/2013 22:20

It's not my fault, they don't put prices on things and it's not the sort of place where you ask. To be fair it's stunning in the detail and quality but even so, it was only supposed to be a stocking filler.

And to those who think this is a boast about how rich I am, if that is what I was trying to do I'd mention her main present which is a peacock made out of fois gras, studded with blood diamonds and coated in working class people's benefit cheques and a solid gold copy of the daily mail. FFS
