Buggies must be folded by law, if a wheelchair user wishes to board

I know this can be a hot topic so thought I'd share that stagecoach have new signs on their buses stating that buggies must be folded by law if a wheelchair user wishes to board. Let's hope it's actually enforced.

Firstly are you missing the fact that the spaces are for wheelchairs? Spaces which people like dawndonna had to campaign long and hard for?

Secondly if parents with children in prams did the right thing, the sensible thing, and collapsed the pram then nobody would have to be left waiting for a bus. Plenty of space for everyone.

first come, first served is a child's way of assessing fairness. I'm guessing you aren't a child.

And TBH, I don't think you come out with statements like you did without being deeply prejudiced against the disabled. It wasn't 'a bit harsh', it was fucking awful.

I was on a bus recently where the wheelchair space was taken up by a small collapsible buggy.
The driver drove past a bus stop with a wheelchair user in it. His hand was out but the driver kept going. I told the driver that he had driven past someone but he told me that there was no room because of the buggy. Bus was fairly empty.
I have complained and sent off my ticket with the driver's number and bus.

Don't get sad dawndonna your life could be far worse. Imagine if you were lailas mum! Instead you have a wonderful wonderful dd who is an absolute credit to herself and you

I hope the able men sitting down on the bus would stand up to help the mums with pushchairs and also the wheelchair person

You know what,it would be a real pain for me with two small dc and being unable to drive but I'm begining to think they should just ban all pushchairs.

Start the campaign then Retro. Many of us on this thread were involved with the campaign for access to buildings and public transport for people with disabilities. Nobody campaigned on behalf of people with disabilities, why should somebody else do your campaigning for you?

Wheelchair users pay taxes too.

My buggy days are long over but buggy designated spaces would be an ideal MN campaign.Tbh I'm kind of staggered they're not there already.The front places are designated for OAPs,staggering down the back with several babies as the bus moves is often not safe.Why aren't young families catered for,they're part of society the same as everybody else?

A buggy space,a wheelchair space and seatbelts should be on all buses.

As someone who has used buggies and may do again in the future you wont have me signing retro but good luck with it

An able bodied parent can always walk with a buggy.
I've had 4 children don't drive (well passed my test but hate it so don't!) and I've managed, it's not that hard.
