To feel too old for MN

Everyone seems so young on here these days.

Maybe it's time I shuffled off to Gransnet.

Ohhhhh my natural home. I am 55 with children in late 20's/30's.
How did that happen? HOW????

DidoTheDodo · 10/12/2013 12:58

And my mum is a magnificent 90, got her first computer for her 90-th birthday and often feels tied because she has spent the day vigorously gardening.
I aspire to be as feisty as she is.

I went to gransnet once but it seemed to be full of people asking if they should be called "nan" or "nanny"?

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 10/12/2013 13:03

I used to love It Ain't Half Hot Mum but it's so politically incorrect that it's not even shown in Australia! Shock And they still show Love thy Neighbour here, sometimes. And love Benny Hill.

Usual, don't go just yet. There's still a wide enough range of people on here that you'll find some threads that are ok, and people to chat with who aren't too young to remember bus conductors and the ticket machines they had, like On The Buses (also massively politically incorrect)

Phwoooaaar.

Who remembers him?

usual - glad you're staying.

I would miss your succinct posts where you sum up everything I'm trying to say in two lines.

The end Grin

sandfrog · 10/12/2013 13:42

You don't really know how old we all are. We might be mostly over 250, for example.

Orangeanddemons · 10/12/2013 13:55

Can I join? I found my old diary from January 1979 the other day. I went to school for 4 days in the month of January.

A combination of, snow, caretakers strike, heating oil delivery strike, broken heating and bus strikes gave me the best January ever. Imagine that happening now!

Orangeanddemons · 10/12/2013 13:56

I also remember reeeeeeally fancying some guy of a programme called The Oregan Trail

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 10/12/2013 14:06

My cousin Susie used to kiss the telly screen when Davy Jones of the Monkees came on, I never really understood at the time wtf was wrong with her Confused

Mintyy · 10/12/2013 14:13

Ha haa! yes, I love reading those posts where young mumsnetters are complaining about their mother or mil and how difficult they are being (usually it seems to have something to do with not enough babysitting/childminding going on, despite the fact that the mum/mil works full time too) and I chuckle quietly to myself cos I just know some of those dragons being bitched about are younger than me Grin.

Reeling!! congratulations on being officially eligible to join Gransnet Flowers - how is your lovely dgdaughter?

Scarletohello · 10/12/2013 14:14

Well I'm 48 have no kids and I bloody love MN!
It's so funny, intelligent, feminist, entertaining and informative. Couldn't be without it now. My friends laugh at me and say, you're not a mum why are you on it? It's been such a lifeline for me this last year whilst I've been on my own caring for my dad, it's a brilliant place full if support and wisdom.

Don't leave! :)

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 10/12/2013 14:16

Thanks Mintyy, she is absolutely the most lovely thing ever. Wink

Apparently I used to kiss the tv screen when the Bay City Rollers came on! I have no recollection of this and suspect my Mother is making it up.

My very first crush (at 4) was Andy Summers (sp?) of The Police. He used to make me feel all shy.

Orangeanddemons · 10/12/2013 14:51

My sister used to kiss the screen too. But her snog of choice wad David Cassidy

anewyear · 10/12/2013 14:54

My boys are 15 & 12, Im feeling quite young now, at 47 I also thought I was one othe older ones too...
just a pup compared to someGrin

MardyBra · 10/12/2013 14:56

Marking my place to read when I have a spare moment later.

I remember when it was a treat to have Angel Delight instead of plain old Instant Whip.

Roussette · 10/12/2013 15:07

Lordy... I need to shuffle off somewhere then. I did register for Gransnet a while back, even though I have no GC (DCs haven't had any.... yet) ... it seemed like a good idea at the time and even though I am ancient I felt out of place on there and came back here.

Am too used to MN (have been here since 2005! But under a different name. I had to change my original name this year ... long story...)

Remember High Chapparral, Bonanza, Dixon of Dock Green, Please Sir, Crackerjack and on and on and on... told you I was old!

grimbletart · 10/12/2013 15:49

My first ever teen record was Bill Haley and the Comets (Rock around the cloak). Now that is genuine ancient. I am of the original rock generation. Grin

magimedi · 10/12/2013 15:55

My DS is 32 & married! He's now started telling us what to do (in a nice way).

I bloody love it here, little aegism & a great mix of people.

EmilyAlice · 10/12/2013 16:00

What about The Groves and The Appleyards. We were allowed to watch The Groves, but not The Appleyards because they were common (I think it was that way round). My DM had incredibly complex rules for how things were judged to be common; I can't remember them all, but white shoes definitely were.
And I wasn't allowed a red coat because it was "villagey". I have had lots of red coats since though.

Go on, pass me a weathers. I'm in my 60s. I tried Gransnet, i really did, but I hated it.

I even got a telling off for something. Can't remember what (function of age related befuddlement, not).

I'm not even a gran, it's that bad. I'm a sort of inbetwixty.
