Everyone seems so young on here these days.

Maybe it's time I shuffled off to Gransnet.

Salmotrutta

James Drury. And I did not have to google--very scary that.

Salmotrutta · 10/12/2013 18:24

I love the diversity and swearing here.

My crushes were Elvis, Cliff, Paul McC Blush, I was only 11. Lots of those cowboys mentioned but never kissed the telly - it was my grandma's. Lots late 60s but was too stoned to remember. Bowie.

I saw live The Beatles, twice, The Who before anyone heard of them, I put slap on and rolled my skirt up and had to scrub it off and unroll before being picked up outside the cinema by my dad Wink at 10.30pm!

I saw Yes play a lunch time gig in WayIn when i first opened, saw Bowie miming supporting Marc Bolan playing accoustic.

And, I saw Marlene Dietrich on stage wearing the most amazing, slinky dress with a train that looked like liquid mercury. She must have been ver 80, was divine.

PacifistDingDong · 10/12/2013 19:57

Several aeons ago I stumbled across MN looking for help with some BFing problem or another (cannot even remember what it was) and was blown away by the wealth and depth of experience and wisdom.
Thanks

I stayed for the swearing and the silliness and the diversity and the intelligent people on here

Did anybody fancy The Hoff in Knightrider? Or Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steel? Blush I may have...

usualsuspect · 10/12/2013 20:05

My youngest DS was about 15 when I joined MN.

He's now 21 and at work.I don't even have a teenager anymore.

Still he comes in handy when I've run out of booze.Hrs usually got a stash Grin

My ds is 19 and back from uni He seems to need me as much as ever just in different ways I certainly didn't think he would!

mrsjay · 10/12/2013 20:07

I think i feel older as my dc are older there is a few parents my age on here who have younger children maybe that is why I like the oldies>>legs it >>

Boaty · 10/12/2013 20:12

I'm having and enjoying my midlife crisis! I wasn't running around a football pitch at the weekend, oh no not me
My DCs are grown up and now I have 2 DGS too.
I look in a mirror and see a middle aged woman...not sure who the hell she is though!
I have only been here a year or so...
Maybe our corrupting influence experience will help others! Wink

Mealiepudding · 10/12/2013 20:19

My DCs are in their 30s & 40s and I thought I was the oldest on here but this thread is making me feel quite youthful Smile

I tried Gransnet and they all seem very nice there but as soon as one poster made the suggestion of 'no swearing' I was OFF.

I love it here and although I'm way past the baby stage I love reading about it as it brings back such lovely memories.

And if it's confession time I sometimes shop at Bon Marche

usualsuspect · 10/12/2013 20:21

I made a sharp exit when no swearing was decided on Gransnet.

letsgotostonehenge · 10/12/2013 20:22

anyway usual you are leader of the drunk thread so you can't shuffle off Grin

MistAllChuckingFrighty · 10/12/2013 20:25

My teenagers are more demanding of my time than they ever have been. < puts coat on again for another taxi pick up >

thepobblewhohasnotoes · 10/12/2013 20:25

You can't swear on gransnet?! Why ever not? We'll have to find somewhere else to grow old disgracefully!

mrsjay · 10/12/2013 20:27

my eldest takes me out in her car we browse round aldi and go for coffee its great Grin

usualsuspect · 10/12/2013 20:27

Do they have a bar on Gransnet?

OP posts:
MardyBra · 10/12/2013 20:27

I am very Envy of some of your gig experiences bewitched

Sadly I was a toddler in the late 60s, so I probably wouldn't have appreciated Bowie and the Beatles though.

usualsuspect · 10/12/2013 20:29

My middle DD takes me out in her car. There are definite advantages of being an oldie.Grin

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 10/12/2013 20:31

Does your DD have a travelling rug to tuck round you in the car usual?

octopusinasantasack · 10/12/2013 20:37

Perhaps we need a mid point to act as a bridge between Mumsnet and Gransnet, a Grumpy Old Women Net perhaps?

Boaty · 10/12/2013 20:38
Sleepingbunnies · 10/12/2013 20:38

Don't talk wet! :)

mrsjay · 10/12/2013 20:41

we are not really old though maybe just out of touch I still have 1 in school so i am clinging on

LadyBeagleEyes · 10/12/2013 20:48

I'm older than you Usual, I'm 57. I had ds at 39 and he's just left me to go to university.
We aren't old, we is way cool, My childhood was the 60's and my teens the 70's, I'm an old hippy at heart and always will be.

cardibach · 10/12/2013 20:52

I'm old too, usual. The drunk thread needs you!
I've just put DD on the train to the Midlands to stay with her Dad before a University interview tomorrow. She is my only DC and will (we hope) leave school this June.
I heard on the radio tonight. Seems appropriate. Although I'm not wise.
I may be having a middle aged crisis though as I've booked for my first tattoo next week...
Ginsnet sounds fab.

Roussette · 10/12/2013 21:07

Well... I'm older than both you Usual and you LadyBeagle... I was a late starter with the kids though (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) and have been here for ummm... 8 years when youngest was about 13 ish... I wish I'd known of MN when mine were younger...
