Just heard today that Asda and morrisons will hike there prices up as the store in the uk subsidise the ones in Scotland.

Also the persident of the European union has said last week on hard talk Scotland will not be able to jump the que on the back of the uk coat tails and will have to join and fresh and wait in the back of the que

And royal mail have also said they may stop mail to the far flung parts of Scotland if they go ita lone as they loose money in the shetlands ect and they would only be required to provide mail in the uk.

And it seems to me all the bits in the white paper are all assertions and weather they keep the pound ect is not actually up to them.

I think this is gonna be like ringing your boss when drunk it sounds like a good idea at the time

But They will regert it in the morining

I am sure they will sort it out, it will probably be a bit painful.

I wish we could have another referendum, I wasn't old enough to vote in the last one and I am sure there would be a different answer this time.

Not really seeing any point in being part of the Commonwealth anymore - as far as I can see that means we have to pay for the Royal's flights when they deign to come and visit us.

I think once the boomers have passed on there will be another one and hopefully we can be a Republic.

I live in Scotland, I will vote yes. I like the English. I will vote yes not because I want to spite the English but because I want Scotland to be like Finland, Denmark and Norway. Some relatively young nations, such as Finland, have existed for only one hundred years and yet have the best education system in the world. Those countries are the ones Scotland should be looking at. We should not be comparing ourselves with England, there is no point. England is fundamentally different, most especially in its predominately conservative political outlook.
Oh yes, and your spelling is atrocious OP, and seriously, don't blame your phone.

I'm finding it quite weird that you have such strong frothing opinions on something of which you appear to have no knowledge or understanding.

Thank you postman salmon just wants his Wallace moment and has no real interest about what happens after

The white paper is a wish list of wants , hopes and dreams
Rather thank fact

So now has resorted to free giveaways in terms of services which will not be afforded in the long run

Which way will you be voting SM?

Scotland is a pretty big country, plenty of people with many diverse opinions, don't like the tone if this haha THEY will have to pay more for their food malarkey. Plenty of people support this plenty wont, politicians fishy or not don't speak for a nation.

OP have a search on MN there are loads of threads about this.

But: Scotland contributes more to Westminster than it gets back.

In the event of independence Scotland takes on a fair share of assets and debts so national debt, embassies, any national assets.

If it's a yes vote and someone is north of the border. Can they quickly move to Carlisle if they want and not be a Scottish citizen? Or will the border be shut as they won't be in the EU? Maybe we need to get that wall build up. Grin

Its anti-Scottish bingo, how many times will "our taxes subsidising them" come up?! So much ignorance, I will be voting no but I can see why others may vote yes.

More rubbish! Even if I were fervently anti-independence I would still be able to see that this is something Salmond strongly believes in and always has. It's not a vanity project FFS.

Op, you now suddenly have the rouk bailing us out before we have even got started! No, what i mean that the divorce would become a messy one and will be to the detriment of the rouk not just Scotland.

They'd better go very far south. In the event of independence Im sure Berwick will revert to Scottish ness and a lot of NE England is trying to forge close links with Scotland so we'll probably end up with them too Grin

Wilson I wasn't sure how much of it was spin about the white paper (because clearly I haven't read it!) and how much was truth.

Nothing clearer seems to be emerging to correct people regarding it's similarities to a manifesto so I can only deduce that it's not a defensible line.

I think I was hoping to witness what an emerging independent country might look like given that it could be uniquely forged in a very peaceful time in it's history with no forced hands or snap decisions to be made, but like you am feeling uneasy about what people are being asked to choose on the basis of.

There's no denying the Yes supporters are a passionate lot, I saw Eddie Reader on QT the other week giving it some Grin but there does seem to be a focus on whipping up some national pride whenever the focus of the questions getting asked gets tough.

People deserve clearer answers than they're getting. Even if it's 'we don't know'. Plus the basic constitution that the answer should reflect when they do find out.

Read it! It is all online. It is part manifesto ie what SNP would do if they were still in powers after next election, and part the process of becoming independent.

But: Scotland contributes more to Westminster than it gets back.

Let's all look at the figures.

Scotland has 8.4 per cent of the UK's total population
Scotland generates 9.4 percent of its annual tax revenues.

Now look at the Public Expenditure Statistics.

Scots get an average of £10,212 per person spent on them every year.
English folk get £8,588.

That's £1,624 less than the Scottish person.
= a heavy subsidy for Scotland.

Plus Scotland is running, like all countries, at a deficit.

HedgehogsRevenge · 09/12/2013 21:54

Bowlersarm Could you show me a post where a Scot is vehemently voicing their wish to detach themselves? We must be reading a diffrent thread because this one was started by an English bigot to encourage all the other bigots out of the woodwork.
And it worked.

And really OP 'massive anti English sentiment'. Where?

I live in Scotland and have spoken to one person (my son's pal) who intends to vote "yes". Everyone else I know is not impressed with the idea at all.

I don't know where the idea that Scotland wants independence has come from, certainly not from the majority of voters here.

Actually, English funding is spilt into regions, and Londoners get far more per head than Scots.

And yes, Scots get funding from Westminster, but that is more than paid for by Scots contributions.

Are you sure? Given that SNP has an overall majority in a parliamentary system designed to prevent overall majorities, and given that SNP have always stood for Independence...
