Just heard today that Asda and morrisons will hike there prices up as the store in the uk subsidise the ones in Scotland.

Also the persident of the European union has said last week on hard talk Scotland will not be able to jump the que on the back of the uk coat tails and will have to join and fresh and wait in the back of the que

And royal mail have also said they may stop mail to the far flung parts of Scotland if they go ita lone as they loose money in the shetlands ect and they would only be required to provide mail in the uk.

And it seems to me all the bits in the white paper are all assertions and weather they keep the pound ect is not actually up to them.

I think this is gonna be like ringing your boss when drunk it sounds like a good idea at the time

But They will regert it in the morining

Personally I'm all for the referendum. I'd like the issue to be decided once and for all. And while I'm voting no, I don't think any Scot would thank you for the analogy in the OP. The Scots aren't stupid and if it's yes then we'll get on and make the best of it.

intitgrand · 09/12/2013 20:37

I wish the English could vote!
A great big YES from me !

BillyBanter · 09/12/2013 20:39

Other countries manage without being tethered to England. I'm sure Scotland could too.

Shenanagins · 09/12/2013 20:40

Oh lordy another bloody thread about this. I'm fed up with it all and the referendum is months away!

I would say to those south of the border who want rid of us as we are leaches, have you ever questioned why the tories are supporting the "better together" campaign given we don't vote for them in any great proportion?

Instead of dancing to the tune of Westminster , we'll be dancing to the tune of Brussels which is worse. One of the conditions of all new EU membership is joining the euro, so we'll be shackled to that too.
I'm voting no.

why the tories are supporting the "better together" campaign given we don't vote for them in any great proportion?

Because the Big Bad Tories think an independent Scotland will be worse off, and clearly they are Out To Get poor wee brave Scotland?

middleclassdystopia · 09/12/2013 20:46

Sometimes these threads are just an excuse for the bigots to lump everyone in a nation together and say things like 'feck off'.

Anyone who can't understand that Scotland is a nation of millions from all walks of life, with differing opinions is not worth arguing with.

RhondaJean · 09/12/2013 20:46

Yabu only because I am sure sanity will prevail and the result will be no.

Basically if it's a yes we are royally fucked.

Sadoldbag · 09/12/2013 20:47

I think is very scary and could de stabilise Northern Ireland

I also here me salmon lol is offering free Child care
Also I am unsure what the no camp think they will do by the way off diplomatic services ie. embassy's ect.

Fish man is promising all sorts but he fails to communicate to the NO camp it's not actually up to him weather they keep the pound , free movement between borders ect and he can't seem to grasp many won't be in a giving mood and will be inclined to tell Scotland to bog off and use Monopoly money and not the pound

Eilidhbelle · 09/12/2013 20:49

I'm Scottish and living in Scotland and I'll be voting no. It's frightening to me that people will vote yes to get away from 'the English'. I don't think it's best for Scorland and I don't believe that SNP can deliver on their promises. I'm hoping that it's a firm no, so Alex Salmond can crawl back under his rock.

Sadoldbag · 09/12/2013 20:50

Rhonda I don't know I think fish man is holding after the commonwealth games a even grater sense of nationalism will sweep Scotland

Also I Think if salmon thinks England will just give up trident I think they are fool hardy

FannyFifer · 09/12/2013 20:50

Good god the Royal Bank of Scotland is not actually owned by Scotland.

PissesGlitter · 09/12/2013 20:51

Do not put all your Scots in one basket for fuck sake
Not everyone wants this crap to happen

SantanaLopez · 09/12/2013 20:52

According to the White Paper, they want to tag onto the Scottish Development International's current locations.

The existing SDI network of 27 overseas offices provides a firm foundation for independent Scottish international representation. Over the past five years, SDI has increased Scotland's presence in emerging markets in the Middle East and Asia. This Government plans that the existing SDI network remains following independence, co-locating with the new diplomatic and consular services. Where SDI is currently located in a country but not in its capital city, a Scottish embassy or political mission would be established to supplement and complement the work of the trade offices.

Our planned initial locations will include: London; Beijing; Berlin; Brasilia; Canberra; Delhi; Dublin; Islamabad; Madrid; Moscow; Paris; Pretoria; Seoul; Tokyo; Warsaw; Washington and in view of the close historical and co-operation ties with Malawi, Lilongwe. Additional sites in Asia, the Middle East, South America, Africa and Europe will be identified

Scotland's network of embassies will be supported in some countries, including the United States, Canada and China, by consulates. We will also appoint members of the Scottish diaspora and prominent local people as honorary consuls to represent Scottish interests in nations where there is no direct Scottish representation.

The cost of all that truly, truly frightens me.

FannyFifer · 09/12/2013 20:52

Also his name is SalmonD not the name of a fish.

PiggyPlumPie · 09/12/2013 20:52

I'm voting No and do not know anyone who is voting Yes (South Aberdeenshire).

One thing I read was that if Scotland gain independence, on 24th March, 2016 everyone living in Scotland will automatically become a Scottish National.

Errm no - you cannot just change my nationality just like that.

BillyBanter · 09/12/2013 20:53

Why doesn't England have a referendum? We can decide if we want Scotland or not.

I'm sure England could. Write to your MP.

Don't be so hysterical. I don't think they are doing it to get away from the English. It's independence from british government. The english will still be in the same places including in Scotland.

SantanaLopez · 09/12/2013 20:56

One thing I read was that if Scotland gain independence, on 24th March, 2016 everyone living in Scotland will automatically become a Scottish National.

Yep.

372. What will independence mean for citizenship in Scotland?

Our proposal is that on day one of independence, all British citizens who live in Scotland and all British citizens born in Scotland but residing elsewhere would automatically be considered Scottish citizens. Others may be able to apply for citizenship following independence through routes such as citizenship by descent or by naturalisation.

Thatballwasin · 09/12/2013 20:56

Oh fucking hell, here we go again. I'll be voting no and don't know anyone who admits to an intent to vote yes. However, when I see these threads all about what of bunch a parasites we all are, etc etc etc it does make me wonder.

The village I grew up in is full of retired English people. In the main they are pretty wealthy (buy the bigger houses) but in national stats they won't be classed as earning. They did that in the south of England then fucked off to Scotland to live somewhere pretty in their dotage. I have no objection to this (helps the local economy) but it comes through in the "economically active" stats

WilsonFrickett · 09/12/2013 20:57

Do you know what OP, you need to get the facts straight in your head and posts.

A NO vote will preserve the status quo.
A YES vote is a vote for independence.

The First Minister of Scotland isn't named after a fish either.

And seeking independence isn't necessarily a destabilising force.

feck sake and I'm a no voter by the way

Backinthering · 09/12/2013 20:57

OP not sure how much your spelling is saying for English education.
But interesting to see the bigots haul themselves out of the woodwork.

dementedma · 09/12/2013 21:03

I live in scotland and no way will be renoun ing my Anglo/Irish nationality for a Scottish one.

Sadoldbag · 09/12/2013 21:04

I don't think scots are stupid however I DO think there is a massive anti English sentiment

Sunshine on Leigh any one I could not imagine a British film in 2013 with a theme of being embarrassed about dating a scot
