to think it is totally reasonable for cat owners not to pick up poo

I mean how can they?

I have 2 cats and now 1 puppy. I watch my puppy when she is out and know where she is, I can see if she is pooing. If she disappears under a bush I check (with my sense of smell) and pick up if necessary. I carry poo bags everywhere.

However, my cats come and go as they please. When they were kittens I had a litter tray that they used, but as they started to go outside with a cat flap, they stopped using the litter tray.

My (ex) neighbour asked me to come and pick up after my cats, but as there are lots and lots of cats in the area, there was no knowing that it was my cats.

I am not a bad pet owner. But I think it is unreasonable to expect cat owners to have the same poo pick up responsibility as dog owners.

A lot of people get cats because they're too fucking lazy to have a pet they have to be responsible for so they make it everyone else's problem instead.

I don't care about 'right to roam', what about a little bit of consideration for others? Doing the right thing, law or not.

If you want a cat that's absolutely fine. Keep it in your house and clean up after it, instead of making it everyone else's problem because you can't be arsed taking responsibility.

HesterShaw · 03/12/2013 21:23

What a fucking stupid thing to say. Cat owners gets a cat because they like cats.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 21:37

Only on MN Hester. Confused Grin

Jengnr · 03/12/2013 21:47

I'm sure they do like them, and that's fair enough. But how often do you hear 'Cats look after themselves'

No they fucking don't you just can't be arsed.

If you like cats that's fine, they're nice enough. Just take proper responsibility for your animals rather than expecting everybody else to.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 21:51

Cats do not look after themselves. They can't open tins or pouches or go to the vets for their booster jabs on their own.

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 21:51

Jen

Couldnt agree more!

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 21:53

When people get a cat, i wish they would think of others on the street

Most cats dont shit on their own territory.

Im looking into getting rid of the cat that litters my garden with shit

Jengnr · 03/12/2013 21:53

They don't pick up shit either Sparkling. Nor bury it most of the time, despite the lies people tell you.

They don't use crossings either.

And all of those reasons are why owners need to look after them.

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 21:57

Had an incident recently, where a cat owner was campaigning to get the speed limit changed because his cat got run over. Hugely wide road, no side roads, no houses etc, 40 mph speed limit - but his cat got hit so it should be changed Confused

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 22:00

How are you going to get rid of it Suga?

As I say, only on MN.

Im looking into getting rid of the cat that litters my garden with shit Of course you are, dear. Hmm

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 22:44

Meaning?

Elsiequadrille · 03/12/2013 22:46

I think the male urine helps deter foxes too!

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 23:00

Meaning, only a stoopid person would post their intentions to commit a criminal offense on the t'interweb so either you iz a stoopid person, or you are goading for a reaction.

You don't appear to be stoopid, so I'm going to go with goading for a reaction.

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 23:02

I'm gonna go rob a bank tomorrow. You with me Sparkling? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 23:03

Yep, I will supply the balaclavas and the getaway car D0oin. Wink

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 23:03

Ok....

Now only a stoopid person would think that people would know who i was.

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 23:05

Hiding behind your anonymity to say stoopid things Suga.

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 23:08

Its not stupid sparkling

Im not hiding behind anything

Its not very intelligent to think that someone will know its me who got rid of their cat from a post on mumsnet

Sigh....

As you say, only on mumsnet!

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 23:10

Well put an advert in the local paper with your photo and a picture of the cat then Suga. Be proud.

Elsiequadrille · 03/12/2013 23:10

You wouldn't seriously feed rat poison to a cat, Suga?

Sparklingbrook · 03/12/2013 23:11

Of course not Elsie but it makes a good post for AIBU.

NoAddedSuga · 03/12/2013 23:16

I would actually.

This cat has been in my babys room because it came through a window

So if its a choice between my babys safety or solving the cat problem, then you can imagine which im going to go for.

Its the same cat, not different cats being a nuisance.

I havent seen this cat for about 2 weeks, but if its going to cause a problem then something needs to be done.
