to think it is totally reasonable for cat owners not to pick up poo

I mean how can they?

I have 2 cats and now 1 puppy. I watch my puppy when she is out and know where she is, I can see if she is pooing. If she disappears under a bush I check (with my sense of smell) and pick up if necessary. I carry poo bags everywhere.

However, my cats come and go as they please. When they were kittens I had a litter tray that they used, but as they started to go outside with a cat flap, they stopped using the litter tray.

My (ex) neighbour asked me to come and pick up after my cats, but as there are lots and lots of cats in the area, there was no knowing that it was my cats.

I am not a bad pet owner. But I think it is unreasonable to expect cat owners to have the same poo pick up responsibility as dog owners.

Exactly. It is an inflammatory thing to say. And stupid. My dogs eat all manner of crap but they don't generally kill things for my entertainment except flies.

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 13:48

There is a massive difference between eating farm reared meat and someone's pet fgs.

There is also a massive difference between a cat or dog eating wildlife to eating someone's pet.

One is legal and depending upon your view point, morally acceptable. The other is not.

I am happy for my dogs to chase, catch and kill wild rabbits. I don't actively encourage it, but nor do I usually act to prevent. If my dogs caught, killed and ate a neighbours pet rabbit, that would not be okay. I would not find it amusing, I would not be proud of it. I would be mortified and would be having a serious think about the training and control of my animals and security of my garden.

Theodorous · 03/12/2013 13:51

Actually I don't really give a crap if you want to piddle off and eat a cat to prove a point. I don't really care if Tescos start selling ready to bake cats. I am not saying they couldn't or shouldn't be eaten. I do care that the UK is filling up with stupid ignorant people who weild their uncontrollable dogs as weapons, whether laughing when they attack sheep, chickens, cats or a fuckingwell aardvark.

Theodorous · 03/12/2013 13:53

Dooin you last post is brilliant, I completely agree

Heartbrokenmum73 · 03/12/2013 13:53

This is weird. I have three cats, have always had cats. We've also had dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, even a duck at one point. I love animals, large or small.

I've been present when a German Shepherd attacked my friend's little terrier. I ended up with bites on my fingers where I (stupidly, in blind panic) tried to prise (sp?) the GS's mouth open before it killed the smaller dog. Not once did I think about that bigger dog being killed.

You read about dogs killing children (we had one last week) all the bloody time. My response to this is never 'all dogs should be kept indoors 24/7' because some people don't like them/some of them are out of control, etc.

Why the vitriol against cats? I wonder if it's because they're smaller and unlikely to kill you, the way a big dog could.

Anyone who wishes to harm/has harmed/allowed their dog to harm a cat is a fuckwit of the highest order and I hope they get their nuts ripped off - preferably by their own dog.

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 13:53

Why is it different to a dog/ cat to eat a wild bird/ rabbit and to eat a pet bird/ rabbit? How does the dog/ cat know the difference?

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 13:57

The dog doesn't know the difference. That is why we have laws that pertain that dogs must be kept under the control of a responsible adult, who will be held accountable for the actions of the dog.

This law has now been extended to private as well as public property, in the main part, due to owners like Territ, who think it is okay to allow their dog to do whatever the fuck it wants because that's what dogs do.

AutumnStarOfWonder · 03/12/2013 13:59

I clearly spoke too soon when I said this thread had been fairly reasonable.

Theodorous · 03/12/2013 14:01

This thread is reasonable and populated by my favourite people. Although I never thought I would ever write the words I don't care if you eat a cat

loveolives · 03/12/2013 14:02

Unfortunately we live in an area that seems full to the brim of cat hoarders. I chuck their cats shit back into their gardens when I get the chance. Dirty vermin, and yes I am fine thank you and I'm not in a bad mood, just don't like cats :)

Canidae · 03/12/2013 14:10

Only a few minutes ago I heard cat's fighting and looked out the window to see my elderly neighbour run out the house with a washing up bowl of water and chuck it at big fat-ginger-tom. He was fighting her long-legged-black cat in her garden. Was it wrong that I laughed?

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 14:12

Of course YWBVVVU to laugh Canidae Wink
I just hope the cat didn't lick itself after being dowsed in dirty washing up water Confused

Canidae · 03/12/2013 14:23

I don't think big-fat-ginger-tom got very wet but it made him move his big-fat-ginger ass pretty quick.

He is the biggest cat pain and thinks he owns the street. All fights involve him and he scratches and bites the school kids if they dare to touch him when walking by.

He may be part tiger.

JollySeriousGiant · 03/12/2013 14:30

There's a cat that poos on our front grass a lot. It appears to have stopped since the time I let my parents' dog chase it away.

Before that we tried lion poo, water pistols, chilli and nothing worked.

Justforlaughs · 03/12/2013 14:40

Jolly where the hell do you get lion poo from?
And are you sure it wasn't fox poo just masquerading as lion poo though? Wink

gamerchick · 03/12/2013 14:42

You can get lion poo from amazon I think. Problem is its useless once it's got wet. Tiger poo is better but you can't get that from anywhere.

vtechjazz · 03/12/2013 14:43

Every windowsill in my house has a little stack of ammo to fling at the filthy vermin cats that come on my property.

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 14:43

You can buy lion poo pellets from Amazon and most gardening shops.

It's said to deter cats, as does male human urine, which is cheaper, if you know any willing human males. I find most male humans are happy to pee just about anywhere.

AutumnStarOfWonder · 03/12/2013 14:45

I think you are being deliberately inflammatory, vtech.

vtechjazz · 03/12/2013 14:57

There is nothing more frustrating than watching a cat crimp one off on my beautiful lawn and having nothing to throw at the dirty thing. Its actually a bit of a sporting pastime here, points for making them jump, extra points if you stop the thing having the shit to begin with!

Crowler · 03/12/2013 14:58

You read about dogs killing children (we had one last week) all the bloody time. My response to this is never 'all dogs should be kept indoors 24/7' because some people don't like them/some of them are out of control, etc.

No, but you do hear people say all the time (me included, and I'm a dog person) - dogs should be on leads, end of story. But I suppose because it's for the very reasons that people state here that cats can't be put on leads, can they? Because they're a law to their own, they're running Parliament! (I found that very funny by the way).

I still haven't heard any reason for a cat roaming (other than the law, obviously) that trumps my right to have a cat-free garden. And if people are so offended at the cat haters, that's all the more a reason to keep them in your house or under supervision when outside - like you would a dog.

The fact that there's fox poo in the garden is totally irrelevant. If I came and pooed in your garden beside some fox poo, would that be OK because your garden is covered it poo whether I do this or not? Wild animals we can't control. Domestic animals & people we can.

D0oinMeCleanin · 03/12/2013 15:02

You can come poo in my garden if you like Crowler, the dogs will eat it. Bring your cat, cat poo is a delicacy in a dog's eyes, most poo is, to be fair, except their own, they leave that for me to clean up Angry

Crowler · 03/12/2013 15:09

You can come poo in my garden if you like Crowler

I'm on my way

LST · 03/12/2013 18:30

Crowler I let my cats run amock AND my dog is never on his lead! Heathen I am!

(I am also an owner of a tearaway toddler... soon to be 2)

Elsiequadrille · 03/12/2013 20:56

One of my cats used to go out on a lead (did somebody mention cats and leads?), well it was a harness-type lead, but only when the weather was very fine (a Si Rex with very little fur you see).
