To buy us a Hudl each?

I have been hankering after a tablet of some description for a while so thought I'd investigate the Hudl. I didn't realise how cheap it was, and as it turns out I have enough Tesco vouchers to buy three of them.

I suggested to DH last night that it woudl be an ideal present for the older Dc (9 and 11), it woudl solve many fights over screen time (they are allowed an hour each on the family pc but it always causes rows). They would love it.

DH agrees that they woudl love it but is reluctant to buy them both one as my mum has promised to buy DS1 a laptop for his 12th birthday (next Sept). DH thinks that the tablet woudl therefore be surplus to requirements and a waste.

My arguments for this are:

-I have a netbook and still want a tablet, they have different applications. I wouldn't be comfortable with DS1 having his laptop in his messy bedroom, for eg, but he can take a Hudl up with him.

-Nine months is a huge amount of time when you're 11, and it's a bit shit to be told you can't have something because you're waiting for something almost-but-not-quite the same, amost a year away.

-If I have one and DD has one, DS1 will spend a huge amount of time asking to borrow them.

-I'd quite like the glory, tbh, after my Mum swooped in over a year ago and promised this fabled laptop Angry.

DH is happy to be convinced, and I'm still working on him. He doesn't 'get' stuff like this, he only has a very basic phone and only got a personal email address two years ago. He despairs at the fact that we have a pc, netbook, phone and kindle. Bizarrely, he's a software engineer.

I think this is a much better thing to buy than oodles of stuff that no one needs. I was quite excited at finding what is almost the perfect gift IMO, especially as it won;t cost anything.

i thought lovefilm was a goner? it's all blinkbox now isn't it?? Those apps are on the hudl already, wait and I'll go check

Catsmamma · 04/11/2013 09:25

yes...blinkbox movies, blinkboxmusic, PlayMovies and PlayMusic/books/magazines/games

NOW....can anyone answer me this....we have shitty internets, I live in a field and dh says stuff like blinkbox and playmovies is all live streaming so It.Won't.Work.Here

Surely I could just order something, let it download and then watch it? Or is he really right?

mrsjay · 04/11/2013 09:28

why would they break a laptop they are not little your dh sounds a bit out of touch presents dont have to be a need all the time they are just nice to have and considering you are getting them with your vouchers it is win win, get them them and let grandma buy the laptop

My eyesight will thank me for it for sureGrin I keep squinting at my phone!

GoldiChops · 04/11/2013 19:48

Lovefilm isn't gone or anything! I use it a lot, on my laptop and TV. I've since found out that you can only use it on iPads and Kindles, as it's amazon, so I'm going for the Kindle Fire so I can use it.

Oblomov · 04/11/2013 20:26

I haven £66 of vouchers. With the boost added, does that double them ? And the fact that my SIL is a Tesco employee, so would get atleast another 20% discount, that would be MORE than enough, right?

valiumredhead · 04/11/2013 21:28

Yes! You only need 60 of vouchers to pay for it in full. You could get a nice cover for it with remaining vouchers!!

SoleSorceress · 04/11/2013 21:45

Oblomov · 05/11/2013 08:05

I want a protective bumper for ds2. But I don't want a red one. Red is the only colour on Tesco direct. what other colours are there, please?

Oblomov · 05/11/2013 08:09

Actually take that back. there are none anyway. Have registered for an e-mail alert.
But seriously, why have they only got one colour of protective bumper? Which is now out of stock? Hmm

It's marketed as a youngsters tablet. But oh no, we don't have enough protective bumpers for it. Nice one.

valiumredhead · 05/11/2013 09:02

Sole - I don't even know what that means? Grin It's a minor miracle I managed to order the Hudl at all tbh Blush

Catsmamma · 05/11/2013 09:06

valiumredhead · 05/11/2013 09:57

That sounds complicatedGrin

Catsmamma · 05/11/2013 10:06

I was wondering about being out and about with it and much more complicated schizzle that I have no idea about

mrsjay · 05/11/2013 10:15
