To feel a bit sorry for Ruby?

Can't believe all the negative press and comments on here about poor Ruby on GBBO.
It's as if people just cannot stand the fact she can bake and she's pretty. And she's not even smiley and apologetic for it! Cheeky mare

Me too! I really like Ruby, not enough to want her to win, but I'm glad she's in the final! I won't be able to watch until Friday which is killing me and will be avoiding spoilers for the next few days

She's not all that pretty and her bakes look horrible!!!!

I have no idea how they taste, of course. But if you're going on looks? Her cakes look crap.

but she can't bak - her stuff is a complete mess. May taste good but she really can't be great if she makes stuff that looks like that opera cake - it was sliding off at one corner. You've got to be able to do both

Its because she goes "oh i so rubbish. I cant do anything" and i think she looks wasted most of the time. The first episode i wanted her to win but now she just annoys me. Kimberly for the win

I dont think she can bake that well either, that thing she made with the jam roly poly was a complete state, slices all different widths and jam oozing out everywhere, compared to everyone elses.

I bet she can bake better than all of us though.....with no pressing time limit!

I don't. She applied to enter, no-one forced her and her gurning over everything she produced is irritating as hell.

I think people have been a bit harsh. Since hitting 30 virtually all 21 year old women piss me off in some way.

If I was allowed to eat one of the bakers creations I would want to eat Ruby's. Ok the presentation may not be up to much but it all sounds delicious and the judges give it a thumbs up for taste. I would rather eat something that tasted amazing rather than just looked amazing.

A few comments on this thread along the lines of "she's no t even pretty..."

That's the kind of thing my 13yo and her friends say.
Ruby hasn't, afaik, ever claimed to be 'pretty'.
It's about baking. Fair enough if you think her cakes are crap.
You shouldn't be commenting on her looks. It makes you sound jealous anyhow.

That's exactly it Tee. Surely to be in the final of Bake Off you should be able to produce cakes that taste good and look good? We have no idea how her cakes taste but they mostly look like I made them, and that's not good enough for a competition like this. And yet she'll win. Which is a travesty and I would be super pissed off to be beaten by her.

Op, this thread is almost certainly going to turn into a "I hate Ruby" thread, but since you mention it, I feel sorry for her too.

The poor girl entered a lovely, fluffy baking competition which just about everybody loves and this is what happens to her. I honestly don't remember it happening to anyone to this extent in previous years.

Personally I think people need to remember that she is a real person with real feelings and I would be devastated if I was her. She's not a celebrity or in anyway familiar with this sort of online nastiness. I love the internet, but this kind of thing makes me mad. Don't you think she reads this stuff? My daughters aren't much older than Ruby and I would want to rip someone's throat out if they talked about one of them like this.

Ok, thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Must leave Ruby threads alone now for my own sanity.

Come on, while I agree that it's gone too far with her, this is series 4. She would have known the score. If you sign up for a TV show which you know gets people talking on facebook and every other forum, then you would be very very naive to not expect to be discussed. And if one person says "but she's only 21" I'll scream. 21 is a fully grown adult and doesn't need sheltering from the harshness of being discussed on the internet.
