been meaning to post about this since saturday Blush

front page of the Sun (yes i know. and no i do NOT buy it) screaming "DUCHESS HAS GOT A FLAT TUM!!" or something like that. with massive pic of her with her top riding up showing her slim tummy. then there was a CLOSE UP of just her tummy area as well.

why is this news?? and who is it news to? i mean, good for her, she looks lovely of course. but really, who cares?

what is actually WITH the media obsession of how women look in pregnancy and afterwards?? and why are women held up as some sort of goddesses amongst women if they have enough personal trainers and time to diet, exercise etc are lucky enough to look great shortly after giving birth??

god no wonder so many women feel so shit about themselves Hmm

ps: am pg myself which is why it wound me up more i think

You'll have to spell it out Marshmallo I don't know anyone who goes by that description.

Or are you really trying hard not to be obvious you are PA-ing someone?

limitedperiodonly · 21/10/2013 16:18

lived through an op

Do you mean operation? Yes, I have. Two bouts of brain surgery. I think they left me able to think straight, but who knows?

I fervently believe a sightseer shouldn't be in on so much as a consultation about athlete's foot, let alone something serious where the observer and the doctor are intent on burnishing their own image, and the patient might feel manipulated into doing what they want, rather than what they, the patient, needs.

That's what happened with kohl-eyed Diana and Saint Magdi.

I'm a journalist. A cosmetic surgeon invited me to interview his day cases and observe their operations purely to make a name/money for himself.

Did I do it? Yes. Do I think it was right? No fucking way. Was there a complaint? Yes. Not my problem though.

KnittingAndCleaning · 21/10/2013 16:31

Vagina in their name, umm Katie Hopkins, I am sure there was something I read around MN regarding KH and thrush?

MarmaladeBatkins · 21/10/2013 16:38

Not all of my MN usernames are vagina-related.

limitedperiodonly · 21/10/2013 16:52

runfatgirlrun During my initial training, DH and I went on holiday to Port el-Kantaoui, Tunisia.

We took our running gear and I puffed around the resort. I got quite a lot of shit from men. Nasty shit. Nastier than you get from morons on your average run in Britain, which can be quite nasty.

DH, who's a bit hardcore, didn't realise it at first. Or maybe he just tried to ignore it because he thought I had every right to go running and might have been being a bit lazy. He didn't understand the difference between ambling around in shorts to running, though I quickly realised it was provocative behaviour. WTF?

Anyway, the worst point was when I was running past some barrackers, slipped on some gravel and badly grazed my leg and started crying and saying I wanted to go home.

I am by no means a wimp.

DH realised at that point that there were some cultural differences at play that he may not have noticed and he might have been being an utter arsehole. One of his career choices was being a PE teacher Hmm

We've revised things a bit since then Grin

RunFatGirlRun · 21/10/2013 17:05

Oh God Limited: poor you. I live in dread of falling over & doing myself a mischief. I'm tall as well as large and kind of feel gravity is not my companion Hmm

Incidentally re your observing an op: I met a surgeon the other night and was chatting about various things, including that I'm keen to observe some surgery for work (writing). Obviously I'd imagined full consent etc. etc. but had thought it might be possible. Apparently things have tightened up hugely and it's now very difficult even for medical students to witness real ops.

After we'd chatted I realised what a serious thing it is. Bloody hell I don't even like people seeing my elbows - imagine consenting to them seeing your guts. I'm now minded to think even asking is an imposition and shall be restricting myself to educational videos courtesy of the New England Medical Journal Grin - added benefit: less chance of passing out.

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 17:07

Anyone else willing Cressida to run, run for the hills....?

MarmaladeBatkins · 21/10/2013 17:11

Cressida will have an easier time of it, I reckon. Harry isn't as important now that he's fifth in line to the throne (afte bubbah George now, isn't he?) Cressy is allowed to go to festivals and that. Kate would have been told advised not to.

Is she the same woman as that Cara Delevigne character? They look like the same person.

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 17:15

Yes - that's who she looks like, I'm been trying to work out who she reminds me of. Do you think she'll have an easier time of it? I'm not so sure...although she strikes me as being a more interesting person than Waity

limitedperiodonly · 21/10/2013 17:33

Is Cressida Bonas the heiress to Bonas, the High Streety Shitty Thingy Shop Thing That Sells Random Things?

Or is she related more to that thing involving seeds and wet cotton wool and eggshells that we did in infant school?

Or does she have no particular reason for existing at all?

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 17:45

No idea who she is - vairy old, vairy posh, vairy bonkers family apparently. Tatler has more on her here. She's a dancer - but not on a pole.

mignonnetteZOMBIEKILLEROFHQ · 21/10/2013 20:08

This thread has gone all DaDa.

Cressida wears a Scrunchie so is therefore not from New York (according to that Batshit Carrie Bradshawe).

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 20:12

A scrunchie? They still make scrunchies??

SecretWitch · 21/10/2013 20:18

Am very confused...I thought we were discussing Kate, Diana and Marmalade's book. I completely missed the walking vagina link..I clearly must stop reading the Christmas casserole thread and focus here..

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 20:22

As befits all the best threads on MN, this one has taken the odd twist and turn Grin

mignonnetteZOMBIEKILLEROFHQ · 21/10/2013 20:25

That is the understatement of the year SirChenjin Grin. The thread appeared to take a dive into a parallel universe populated by Vagina named MNers.....

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 20:27
Grin

Btw - get over to that over thread and tell me how I should be wearing my skinnies please

YoniGetAnOohWithTyphoo · 21/10/2013 20:44

The amount of 'baby weight' she had to lose, i'm fairly sure I lost within a few hours this morning. After some all-bran and a cup of coffee.

YoniGetAnOohWithTyphoo · 21/10/2013 20:46

:::hopes nobody notices I am also a vagina-named MNetter:::

mignonnetteZOMBIEKILLEROFHQ · 21/10/2013 20:48

Will do Sir

Lisavarna · 21/10/2013 21:30

*I must say I find this ^^ assumption that women who regain their pre pregnancy figures, have personal trainers/go to the gym/are on diets, quite odd and a bit tedious.

It's not unusual for a slim, fit woman with tight stomach muscles to go straight back to pre pregnancy shape, almost immediately after giving birth.*

Agree with Worra. I've had 5dc, all between 8 and 11lbs and am size 10 at 5ft 10. No personal trainers here, just bloody busy running around after kids, walk 5 times a week and try and eat fairly well, also am lucky with a good metabolism. Stop bitching about Kate just cos she lost the weight, she was fit and slim to start with and lets face it, with being in the public eye all the time she would probably make an extra effort to get back in shape anyhow.

Yanbu. It is not news. Your thread on here is not hypocritical IMO because you are entitled to question it being on front page.

Why does it matter how quickly/slowly women lose baby weight or how they did it? Why are we so obsessed with women's figures and in particular the minute details of this particular woman's life/figure/latest coat?

Mim78 · 21/10/2013 22:26

I lost baby weight really quickly as soon as stopped breast feeding dd ( about 3 - 4 months). before then it stayed on, after that is disappeared. Didn't do anything in particular to make It happen as some of the above posts suggest is necessary.
But if anyone thought it was news they would be mad. Ok I am not famous and doc is but what has her baby weight got to do with anything?

SirChenjin · 22/10/2013 13:27

It's not the baby weight that the OP is questionning - it's whether or not it's news (which it's obviously not) and why the media and some sections of society are so obsessed with weight esp. after a woman has had a baby.
