been meaning to post about this since saturday Blush

front page of the Sun (yes i know. and no i do NOT buy it) screaming "DUCHESS HAS GOT A FLAT TUM!!" or something like that. with massive pic of her with her top riding up showing her slim tummy. then there was a CLOSE UP of just her tummy area as well.

why is this news?? and who is it news to? i mean, good for her, she looks lovely of course. but really, who cares?

what is actually WITH the media obsession of how women look in pregnancy and afterwards?? and why are women held up as some sort of goddesses amongst women if they have enough personal trainers and time to diet, exercise etc are lucky enough to look great shortly after giving birth??

god no wonder so many women feel so shit about themselves Hmm

ps: am pg myself which is why it wound me up more i think

My tiny brain can understand that it was it was an official photo call organised by her press team and it got on front pages of both tabloids and broadsheets, gaining publicity for her and a sports charity she's interested in.

Therefore it was news. Not the most earth-shattering news but a legitimate and worthwhile story. Then I turned the page and read all about the latest rises in energy prices.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/10/2013 10:15

I was just surprised she didn't have a vest on - after all it is October.

Tee - that was rather mean.

FoxyRoxy · 21/10/2013 10:15

No it's not news and no, not all women who have a baby need a team of nannies and personal trainers to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I was back in size 8 jeans by 10 days after giving birth, I lost most of the weight as soon as I had ds2 as I didn't put on much.

DeWe · 21/10/2013 10:15

She had bad morning sickness remember.

With dd2 I lost a stone over pregnancy due to morning sickness. So never had baby weight to lose. I don't think I looked terribly well with it, but lots of people commented on the "quick way" I seemed to recover.

HumphreyCobbler · 21/10/2013 10:16

I think making this front page news is a legitimate source of discussion actually.

It IS annoying that this is worthy of front page news, especially given that NOT losing the baby weight would also be worthy of front page news.

We should be in a place where it is not at all newsworthy.

SeeYouNT · 21/10/2013 10:18

erm no coffee i just haven't been on here as had busy weekend

but if i think of something i would like to discuss on here i make a mental note of it Blush

also agree that women are harsh critics of other women as well :( and i do wonder if in some cases the media's obsession with womens looks and bodies has something to do with this?

I think tiny brain was aimed at me OP.

I still think YABU and a little bit more interested in this news that emerged on Saturday than you're admitting.

And sneering at people for 'having the time to diet' eh? or thinking the only way to lose weight after having a baby is with a personal trainer is a bit daft and very nasty.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 21/10/2013 10:19

The tabloids are horrendous for this guff. I remember about a month before Diana died she was pictured leaving a gym. She had lines imprinted across her back thighs (clearly from sitting on a wicker seat). There was a four page spread where lots of different experts tried to determine whether it was cellulite or from sitting. They employed 2 models to sit on a variety of seats for 10 minutes then photographed the results. The results were in. It was a debilitating case of cellulite. Then followed an open letter to Diana. She wasnt ti be ashamed of her affliction and she could rest assured that she was in good company as only 7% of women could boast that they were cellulite free... and on it went. The same month the paper printed pictures of her with a rounded tummy. There was a documentary about her eating disorders and suicide attempts. Despite knowing this the week before Diana died the paper printed photos that readers had taken after conducting chair/cellulite experiments in the comfort of their own homes. When Diana died the paper declared itself the voice of the nation and gave Tony Blair the idea of dubbing her The Peoples Princess. I was disgusted but not shocked that they should torment a vulnerable woman about her body in one breath and then loudly mourn her passing in another. I was 17 around that time. I haven't touched that paper since.

Bonsoir · 21/10/2013 10:20

I think that the Duchess of Cambridge works very hard at projecting an image of it all coming easily

I was a bit Hmm at her wearing clothes (low waisted skinny jeans, untucked top) that were clearly designed to let the media get a flash of her tummy.

HotCrossPun · 21/10/2013 10:22

I don't think for one second that KM has employed some kind of eating/exercise regime soley for the purpose of losing any baby weight she had.

She is athletic, active and naturally slim.

She had severe morning sickness which would have prevented her from gaining a lot of weight early on.

She was always going to get her figure back quickly. It's not news, but its also not Kate's fault that is has made the news.

SirChenjin · 21/10/2013 10:23

YourMa - I remember that. It was utterly depressing - are there that many people out there who have absolutely nothing better to do with their time? Sad

anon2013 · 21/10/2013 10:23

I posted on the thread talking about how lads mags are damaging our DS's and DD's about this. I saw the Sun front page and then looked inside and I felt totally fat, ugly and horrible that this is celebrated like this. Never felt like that looking at a "lads mags" on the unfortunate occasions I've had a look.

SeeYouNT · 21/10/2013 10:30

see thats the kind of thing i mean yourmanobra its just mean and unnecessary

and limitedperiod i didnt say kate herself had anything to do with it, or its her fault that its made the news. i like her, she seems nice and quite down to earth. so am not attacking her in any way, and i don't care either way if she went back naturally or had trainers etc. i didn't mean it in a sniping way, just saying lots of celebs probably do have help and not saying its wrong Confused

....i am interested in it being news, rather than the "news" of her losing the weight per se, as IMO its not front page news and i think the media's obsession with women losing baby weight etc is just yet another stick to beat women with. we are never quite good enough.

but then, its the Sun. its not exactly known for its highbrow-ness and intelligent is it :o

meant to type "highbrow-ness and intelligent writing " in my last sentence

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 21/10/2013 10:37

SirChenjin, I wasn't a keen fan or anything but I remember watching a documentary about how Diana took everything written about her to heart and would dread Wednesday as that was the day bitchy columnists (The Wednesday Witches) would have free reign and tear her down a bit more. I remember always feeling uneasy about Diana because my grandma always said Diana wasn't long for this world. I didn't know what that meant til I got older. It was so weird when she died but I remember thinking maybe they'll be nice about her now.

Nancy66 · 21/10/2013 10:38

Kate sells newspapers. That's why. If she didn't they wouldn't put her on the front page.

Ministrone · 21/10/2013 10:38

Really, Bonsoir why were you, did it offend you in some way that someone who is under constant scrutiny and comment chose to reveal her tummy?

bakingaddict · 21/10/2013 10:40

I don't really care about KM's shape and whether she has personal trainers or dieticians to help her lose the baby weight.

The only fact is that as a very high profile woman in the media and part of the Royal family she will be constantly analysed on how she looks and dresses. I imagine she has for many years since she first became Prince William's official girlfriend had a diet and fitness regime which includes personal trainers so it's just back to business for her now the baby has been born

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 21/10/2013 10:41

SeeYou, you'd think they'd be a bit more respectful wouldn't you? They hounded her MIL. At least Kate has William. He is very keen on maintaining her privacy. Especially after topless shots appeared of her in french tabloids. Hmm

curiousuze · 21/10/2013 10:44

Ugh. Pre-pregnancy I was tiny, went to the gym every day and was very toned with a flat stomach. Then I stupidly mated with a man over a foot taller than me, had a gigantic gigantic baby who is still bfing at 11 months (causing me to eat like a labrador with it's head in a bin bag) and I am REVOLTING. Flabby gut that flops over like an apron onto my thighs, huge udders, back fat, the lot. My arse on the other hand has disappeared.

WHY AM I NOT THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE???

Nancy66 · 21/10/2013 10:44

Yourma - Diana used to ring the picture desk of The Sun herself to tip them off about where she was going.

Amrapaali · 21/10/2013 10:47

So is the Torygraph a tabloid as well? Many days, it reads like one. Saturday, there was a half page pic of the DoC. Just a picture with a caption of the event? I mean, why? She has a pretty face and all that, but a pic of a minor royal which has nothing to do with the day's news?

Inside a half page interview with some physio who pronounced that the Duchess was risking a fracture by bopping a ball couple of times while wearing wedges...

I picked up the Times actually, where the front page was about Assad's atrocities with an US photo of an unborn baby witha bullet through its head. I then swapped it for this tabloid-in-hiding-Telegraph, because it was free with a cup of coffee. I am not proud. Blush

GideonKipper · 21/10/2013 10:48

I wouldn't be surprised if the outfit was a tummy revealing, polite fuck you to all the pricks who took great pleasure in sniping about the size of her post birth stomach when she came out of hospital.

Ministrone · 21/10/2013 10:49

How interesting that you should think that, Nancy, who told you?
You aren't the her BF are you?

wordfactory · 21/10/2013 10:50

I think Kate knows full well that everything she does is scrutinised. An she has an army of people helping and advising her.

In those circumstances, if it were me, I'd be very careful to make no statement (implicit or explicit) about snapping back into shape.
